  1. Yup, listening to it now - Rushjet just posted the album in here. Community is certainly an appropriate place for it, though. Everyone, do yourselves a favor and listen to it. EDIT: Nevermind, it seems to have been moved already.
  2. I love you, man. Just sayin', is all. Now to go listen to the soundtrack... EDIT: Just listened to the first track. Yeah, I love you. EDIT2: I'd love to see some of the NSF files for it - dissecting NES music and remakes on the hardware is a bit of a hobby of mine. I tend to learn a lot of cool things from it
  3. Yes, it's about the lack of highs and lows throughout (save for the bass drum that comes in at ~1:00). It sounds like it's an EQ restraint that you imposed on it, if I'm not mistaken, so I suggest relieving it from time to time. Your Hurry remix had similar issues, and if I recall correctly it was rejected due to those issues (though for some reason I can't find the Judges Decision page on that track right now - I'm not imagining that, am I?). I'm pretty sure the low and high cuts you made will ultimately knock this track down, in the end. At some points the cuts sound great (as I said, it's a great way to open a track, and this one is no exception) and perhaps for effect in the middle of the song, but to have it throughout the entire track sounds unclean and strange. Again, try opening the sound up a little bit and see where that gets you.
  4. I think you stole the artwork from Legendary Frog's popular art style, with the simple shading, no outline stylized look which... Wait a minute...
  5. You know, I like your style... sometimes. I feel there are similar issues between this track and your Hurry track, though - it never seems to open up the soundscape. There's so much room in the upper end of the EQ that needs to be filled that sounds artificially cut. When those drums come in at ~1:00 the whole song feels as if it needs to open up, but it never does. So... yeah, the mid's only effect is a sweet one to use in short bursts, but not for an entire track. Try letting some of the other instruments use their highs and lows more often. The silence toward the end of the song should be about a measure shorter. No, overall I like the track, but the soundscape is confining. If you could open it up (and perhaps make it a little longer) I think you'd have a keeper here.
  6. Been fine. Getting involved in the GRMRB right now, and it's a blast. Go check it out.

  7. Dyne has all the mastered wavs (the two Crystal Snail wavs were pre-mastered already). I'll send you some write-ups today, though (I wasn't aware that we needed them ).
  8. Believe me, I know how you feel.
  9. Man, that sure is a tight, TIGHT match-up. It keeps shifting to either of our favor, right now, not moving more than a single vote away. Geez, this is actually kind of exciting - keep them votes coming, there.
  10. My favorite in X2
  11. Makes sense to me. I mean why else didn't the rapture happen.
  12. I guess minor would work, too. Gotta admit that it'd be pretty impressive to make it in major, though
  13. Technically, the Baroque era (Baroque = Misshapen Pearl, named in the classical era because they thought the music was terrible) is defined by it's ability to define a single emotion very well (as opposed to later eras using multiple emotions to contrast one another in a single song). It also uses many 'inventions' and preset techniques to get more sound out of their instruments (like heavy use of polyphonic lines). From my own experience, the rhythms are often restricted due to this, but that's just what I hear in it. The columns track uses very heavy polyphonic lines. Very baroque technique. Atelier uses a harpsichord and has that nifty polyphonic line in it. I'm also hearing some heavy use of sequences - other eras use sequences too, but Baroque tends to use it without masking the sequence at all, like in this song. Sam and Max wrote a fugue (or at least imitated one). That's pretty hardcore Baroque, there. Tonal fugues really weren't written often after that period, so they tend to sound 'Baroque'. Also, HAHAHAHAHA, Deis Irae at 1:38. I wrote a whole article about that in my good ol' theory thread . That... doesn't point it to Baroque, per se, but it's always fun to point it out whenever I hear it. Good ol' Zircon uses those polyphonic lines and some rich counterpoint reminiscent of some of Bach's works. Particularly holding the bass while having the lines move above it, creating the illusion of chord changes. Very Baroque. Dance Dance Revolution is a remix of one of my favorite Vivaldi tunes, . It is baroque, by definition. Go listen to it and tell me if you recognize it.Castlevania overuses the whole polyphonic lines thing + counterpoint over a static bass. God bless their hearts. Hopefully that answers your questions about it all.
  14. Make it in Db Major, just to mess with everyone's minds.
  15. Never heard any of the music, so this'll be a source-blind run, here (OHO, see what I did thar?!) This... is wonderful. The singing really takes your track to new heights, bLiNd. Wonderful voice, Ashleigh - we need to work together on some music some time, remix or not. *Ahem* The trance + vocals are excellent. The dubstep is abrupt, but well done, and as it weaves throughout the track it meshes very well. The vocal splicing with live vocals is amazing, the effects are awe inspiring. The strings are a bit too dry, IMHO, but they still work well. Great work, both of you. I feel that I better listen to the soundtrack now, after hearing this take on it.
  16. An hour and a half later I've listened to them all, given my feedback and voted. Holy hot damn, this is going to be amazing. For the most part I think everyone was paired off perfectly, here - every match up is very hard to vote on. A round of applause to everyone in Mega Man bracket! Let's see what the Proto Men have as a response!
  17. Wow, this is an epic round. Most of the tracks are truly amazing. This'll be fun, I can tell... no matter who wins this round .
  18. My questions are not answered on the page. Just letting you know. When you get it maybe you could answer them for me.
  19. *yawn* Just got mine finished. Had an intense spurt of inspiration last weekend and then... nothing until the last day. Go figure. Hopefully y'all like the minimalistic approach to this one (not 'Hurry' album minimalistic, either). It was a fun little track to work on.
  20. NOOOOO!!! Not Devastus... please not Devastus again. Get something in, you two - I mean there's still a couple hours left, here.
  21. Just lettin' you know that you should be able to access the project forums now. Go ahead and post in there and at I can give more feedback as needed (as well as anyone else that may check in there from time to time). Glad to have you on board :D

  22. Sorry, only got to this during the rapture. Yeah, even if I'm a bit late to the party I've got to say there's not much that I can say about this one. It's very pristine and awesome. I agree with Rozo in the bass department, but I could easily see this being a pass even without any tweaks. But yeah, giving the mix a little more bass with EQ would make this track even better. In all honesty, while all the sound is incredibly clean, sometimes I feel that the melody doesn't quite stick out enough past the middleground. It's not what SonicThHedgog says, though - nothing is 'hot' in this mix. There is no clipping, and I've got to say the production is quite clean. The issue is more that the melody isn't poignant enough, at certain points, which can be solved by other means than volume (timbre, octave, and... well yes, volume). I'll emphasize it again - it's not a production flaw, it's simply a salience issue. If at all possible, it'd be ideal if you could get that working right. As you said though, you're done, and I think you have a great shot at a post with this. Whether you submit it as is or make the changes, I wish you the best of luck with it. Good lu- *whisked away in the rapture*
  23. Definitely going to use that one next time a Kefka vs Sephiroth argument comes up. Where do you find this stuff?
  24. That was amazing. Now I miss him even more.
  25. You know that Blackpanther is also a part of that compo? I think the OP is a little dated, bro.
