  1. Previous Decision Hi! This is a resub of a remix that didn't pass the judges panel the first time. It's been a year and a half since and I hope my mixing skills have improved enough that this time it's up to par with OCR standards I have just released an album of 10 remixes and I would very much like to have it on OCR if possible. You can find it here please let me know if if there's a way to have it fully available! Contact: My ReMixer name: Sinfinian Real name: Mikki Rousi Email: User ID: 34122 Submission: Game: Castlevania II: Simon's Quest - Bloody Tears Name of arrangement: The Trail Of Tears Name of the song: Bloody Tears Thank you, Mikki Rousi / Sinfinian
  2. Contact Information Your ReMixer name: Magnetic Ether Your real name: Karlyn Singh Your email address: Your userid (number, not name) on our forums, found by viewing your forum profile: 22769 Submission Information Name of game(s) arranged: Chrono Trigger Name of arrangement: Monstrosity/Abhorrence Name of individual song(s) arranged: Magus Confronted Link to the original soundtrack: https://youtu.be/zVvTCIOyVik I thought Magus' theme would lend itself well to doom metal and I was right. As always Electric Wizard, Blood Ceremony and many other doom bands are big inspirations for my work. I actually first started working on this several years ago and gave up on it a few times when things weren't going as I hoped. I'm just really glad that I was finally able to finish it! The source usage in the arrangement is pretty straightforward - the only thing to note is that I used the first few notes of Lavos' Theme in a couple of places in addition to the main source material. And lyrically the song is about Magus' struggles with his hatred for Lavos as he prepares to confront and kill it. Lyrics: Anathema upon our world A quiet apathy deep within Thy destorted mind sees beyond Our fragile lives of porcelain I feel the wind blowing through eternity Its cold breath on my anxious soul Come from Beyond Anything We've known Its coming I feel it Awaken The black wind howls There's no escape from time and space There's no escape from your own hate Breathing... Coming It's coming I feel it It's coming
  3. This track is going to be part of the Chrono Cross: Chronopolis remix album. Hallo, Remixer name: Jorito Real name: Jorrith Schaap Email: Userid: 3899 ReMixer name: Earth Kid Email: Userid: 33453 Submission information: Name of Game(s) Remixed: Chrono Cross Name of Arrangement: When Two Worlds Meet Names of songs arranged: Another Termina (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyROkSCk25Y), Home Marbule (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AP_y1grbiWQ) Comments about the mix: Jorito: At the very end of the Chrono Cross project, Brad hinted that he could use another track for the faster disc of the album. As it happened, Earth Kid and I had been brainstorming on Discord about a possible collab, where we could combine together her folk sounds with the electronic world. This seemed like an excellent excuse to give it a shot! After some discussion we settled on a rough workflow, with me focusing on arrangement, percussion and bass and electronic sounds in general, and her on live performances on her folk instruments and overall mixing, and both of us chipping in where needed. The track started off with a bare bones piano arrangement from Earth Kid that I messed around with. There was a bit of Marbule in there in 4/4 that instantly inspired me to add some Drum & Bass vibes to it, but the other parts were in different time signatures that I struggled to get working in a good way with electronic stuff. After some discussion and experimentation, I finally settled on putting it all in 4/4, but with some swing applied as a nod to the original 6/8 and 2/2 time signatures. From there the arrangement got fleshed out rather quickly, and when Earth Kid replaced my scratch midi with her arsenal of instrumental and vocal performances, the track really came to life. With the swing applied to the track, it has some bouncy goodness to it that I really dig, and with the interesting contrast between the folk and electronic elements as well as an arrangement that keeps things moving, I am hoping you will be bobbing your head to the song as much as we did! Earth Kid: This arrangement was an exercise in striking a balance with the contrasting genres we merged, and giving each element its time in the sun. I contributed vocals and performances on the Celtic harp, hammered dulcimer, Irish bouzouki, and soprano and tenor recorders. It was a fun challenge to record, edit, mix, and put together this homage to two charming cities, and I feel that duality was a prominent theme: Termina and Marbule, Home World and Another World, folk music and electronic music. I hope you enjoy listening to this song as much as we enjoyed making it! Lyrics: I bring my world to you You bring your world to me (2x) Cheers, Jorrith
  4. Note: If passed, this will need another name. Another note: I'm aware that there's some original audio in this, however it doesn't take too much space in the track, and the source is represented in non-sampled areas. It's a debatable case whether or not it's a NO OVERRIDE scenario, so please judge accordingly. - Gario Artist name: MNSTR My Name: Angel Cedeno Email: Website: https://soundcloud.com/user-306499432 Game: Mega Man 2 Name of arrangement: Dr. Wily's Castle - MNSTR Name of song: Dr. Wily's Castle

  8. Smittenden Oliver O'Neill www.superoliver.com 35181 Duke Nukem 3D Aliens, Say Your Prayers! The Only Way to Be Sure Always liked this tune though it's generally overlooked falling within the the long shadow of Grabbag and Stalker. Funny thing is for a long time I'd assumed it was written by Lee Jackson but as I worked on it I recognized it as Bobby Prince's handwriting. In the original, the introduction presents the bass and kick upfront which is a strong memorable characteristic but I decided to postpone them and instead kick things off with the melody. I thought it would sound nice played in isolation and sure enough, it holds up well. Gives the piece a spacey quality which seems fitting considering the subject matter. Then just wrapped things up with the timeless Duke dun-dun-dun motif.

I was inspired by Nujabes a bit for this arrangement. It's been a long time since I've submitted anything to OCRemix. To be honest, I've been afraid to since I've been rejected every time before. I have made many more tracks since my last attempt, though, so I feel a little more confident this time around. I feel like getting at least one remix on this site makes me more professional as a composer/arranger/producer since you guys are super picky. I can finally get this weight off my chest and move on, closing a chapter in my life. Hope you enjoy the track.
  14. I removed all the samples I used from the original remix that can be found in the game. All the samples you hear my own samples. I know that some may sound like the CT samples but I assure you and can prove that they are my own if I need to. Also, changed the keys of the piano part that was previously mentioned. Hope you like it and let me know if there’s anything else I can do. Thanks for listening!! 15. This is an interesting arrangement. I'm not sure what kind of style it was going for, but at the very least it was engaging, getting people wanting to know what comes next. Some of the performances and instruments are just immaculate - that piano and oboe are some of the best I've heard produced on here. The arrangement itself takes some graceful liberties with the harmonies, and they work very well. The guitar performances are pretty good, too, though the release on the guitar could've used a low pass; that high EQ range gets cluttered really quick. I'm not too impressed with the drums; they sound mechanical and as if they were just thrown in there, which is disappointing considering how carefully crafted everything else sounds in this. The fade out ending was certainly not the greatest way to end this, either, but I think we'll get over it. Overall it's still a good pass on my end. I think there's some trimming around the edges that could've been done to make it better without compromising your vision, but it's definitely not below the bar. Great work! YES

User ID-29237 This is a ReMix of the first walkabout theme in Dragon Warrior 2 The name of this ReMix/arrangement is Epic FootSteps I was unable to find an official name for the track that is the inspiration to this ReMix, I just call it the first walkabout/over world theme. The music for this NES game was composed by Koichi Sugiyama, and was released in 1990. I have many fond memories of playing this game, as well as watching my father slog through it as well. The theme I chose to arrange has always been a haunting melody to me, so I thought I would put my own spin on it. It’s a straightforward techno track, with an organ intro. I used LMMS for production, and I still consider myself a novice at using this sort of software, but I have learned some, and have had fun doing so. This ReMix has gone through quite a few permutations, and I have enjoyed the feedback that I have gotten through this process. That feedback has been constructive and greatly appreciated!
  17. Yeah, sorry 'bout that. I couldn't go into too many details in the e-mail, but ages ago (during the FF6 album kickstarter and release) Squaresoft got a bit touchy with their property - kickstarter money for a physical print is what did it - and they basically took a hard look at the site and all of the property it was playing around with. Got off pretty easy with just the samples being legally banned (still got the kickstarter done for a physical print, too!), but those were some pretty tricky times. It's why in the submission instructions we say no Squaresoft samples, and we do our best to respect that. Every other company is all good, though, as long as samples aren't the only way people can recognize the source. Figured a bit of interesting history to go with my rejection would be neat, since that incident is so old now a lot of newer members aren't even aware of it.
  18. Well, this is certainly a really cool interpretation. What can I say, the analog synths just sound so warm and tasty, it's hard not to just love it. Nice stuff, and welcome to the OCR boards. If you'd like some more personal interaction with our members we also have a live Discord server, too. Definitely check it out! ... I'm not personally on those servers much, but hey - I hear they're pretty dope.

I've always been a huge fan of Yoko Shimomura's work on the Kingdom Hearts series (and more). It took me a while to figure out the direction I wanted to take with this one. I bought some new modules for my eurorack recently and while experimenting an idea began to take shape. That idea became the foundation for this track. Everything else fell into place right after. I reached out to a friend to perform the oboe part I had written down and everything else was performed by me using analog gear, guitar, bass, and virtual software (some of which I sound designed myself and programmed to be playable through Kontakt). 20. I'll be honest, I personally think this is a pretty great little track. I do like how the performance shapes the phrases (with the dynamics, articulations and dynamic tempo), and frankly this does sound like a pretty tough piece to perform. That third section in particular has a lot of things going on under the hood, which is why the performance of it is less than perfect, I'm sure. I can predict a couple of other issues that others might have with something like this (the 1:38 minute track length, the repeated iteration used to expand each section), but I'm less convinced on rejecting this outright on those grounds. The site, while rare, has posted sub-2 minute tracks in the past, and the alternative to that repetition (e.g. altering the second iteration to make it stand out more) could, in my humblest opinion, cause the track to be sound unbalanced, though a minor alteration to the second iteration of each section to make it sound like an antecedent/consequent arrangement could help make the track sound less repetitious. Could be my piano bias, hearing similarities to other piano pieces like this in the past (like Chopin's "Aeolian Harp", for example), but I don't think the arrangement is at all far from passable. Despite my defense of other aspects of this track, the performance does need to be in tip-top shape to be posted. I don't think I could justify posting a track in this unpolished state, but I do think a polished version of this would deserve a solid look. So clean up the preformance, and perhaps give some thought on tastefully altering the direct repetitions so it doesn't sound like padding, and I could see this passing. NO
  21. 88bit Rob Kovacs www.88bitmusic.com Your userid: 23320 ———————— Arkista’s Ring Arkista vs. Grand Master Fang Boss Theme released by Sammy for NES, music composed by Sizlla Okamura https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wpALOWtMRyQ The moment I heard this music it grabbed my attention. It’s creates all the feelings that a good boss theme should - anxiety, suspense, gets you pumped up — but it does in it’s own way by using the snare drum pattern to creates rhythmic dissonance, using mixed meter, a brilliantly placed rest making you feel uneasy, and a great chord progression. I took these elements and developed them into four different sections — an intro, the build up, the release, and an outro. Thank you for listening!

So when there was a free Undertale slot on the Indie Games v2 tribute album, over at the Pixel Mixers community, it felt like too good an opportunity to pass up. Hopes and Dreams is one of my favorite tracks from Undertale for its upbeat and optimistic vibe and just plain catchy melody. Since I’ve been looking for an excuse to try my hand at a Nightwish-esque, that meant operatic female vocals. Fortunately one-woman choir Psamathes, a Pixel Mixers regular, was immediately interested to do some symphonic metal, so I got to arranging. As far as the arrangement goes, the source track is catchy but also quite repetitive, so I had to be creative. Fortunately there was enough material create a verse and chorus section as well as a bridge part. To spice it up, I wrote a riff + chant section quite heavily inspired by a part of the source (even though I completely forgot from where by now...), added a solo section and threw in some (intentionally keyboardy/ROMpler-ey sounding) orchestral sounds for that symphonic feel. No symphonic metal without guitars, and while I liked my Shreddage 2 midi riffs well enough to blend them in too, I was happy to work with jmabate for some great guitar work. He provided the lead and rhythm guitars and threw in an extra tasty solo bit as well as a few harmonies at the end to boot. Bass was provided by Kalu4ii Plays, another PM community member, and provides the rhythm section together with the pretty layered drums courtesy of Logic Pro’s Drummer (and heavily edited by yours truly). After the usual mixing hell (it turned out to be one of these high track count monsters with too many layers) it turned out not quite as Nightwish-esque as I originally planned, but I still feel it’s a great homage to Undertale, to symphonic rock/metal in general and it has plenty of good vibes and power. All of this was immensely helped by the fantastic singing from Psamathes and the extra oomph provided by the performances from jmabate and Kalu4ii, and I can't thank them enough for helping the track come to life! Psamathes: When Jorito asked me to sing on this track, I was very easily convinced: he just had to say "Undertale" and "Nightwish" in the same sentence. We eventually incorporated the symphonic metal influences in a more personal way, in order to fit our styles and musical identities, but the bombastic feeling stayed, and it really gave the song a special energy. Undertale is a game that got me through some very difficult times, and I loved how the original lyrics Jorito wrote somehow reflected the struggles I was going through back then. As a singer, I absolutely had to put all my heart in the interpretation, and I worked towards that both with enunciation and by using different voice colors. I was able to add a lot of nuances by experimenting with different operatic techniques, from the fuller, "determined" tones of the chorus to the lighter notes of the bridge, which immediately convey the insecurity expressed by the lyrics. I also sang all the harmonies in the choir section, and for those I had to make sure that I was consistent and varied at the same time. Technically speaking, this song was really challenging. The main melody of Hopes and Dreams is full of big jumps that take a huge amount of control to be sung with a consistent tone, and the upbeat tempo also required an almost surgical use of breathing to safely make it through the phrases. After that, it was all a matter of being one with the music! jmabate: When Jorito asked for guitars on the Pixel Mixers Discord, I really liked the music and it inspired me a lot! When the guitars were recorded and I heard the finished track, I really enjoyed the mood of the arrangement and the voice of Psamathes! 24. EVAL Oh, this sounds pretty kickin'. Production is clean, and the track sounds pretty kickin' to boot; almost sounds like it could've been in Persona 5, which believe me is a compliment (great freakin' soundtrack). Would've loved a source link, though; looking for an arrangement online on our own isn't too fun. I'm not sure how the arrangement connects with the source that I found, either - could be the case that I found the wrong source to compare to. A suggestion if you submit this: if you are confident that the source is certainly represented in the track (at least 50% of your arrangement being identifiable as the source, at least), provide some timestamps in your submission e-mail. Minor criticism: on your faster instruments the reverb creates high frequency mud, which sounds like an unnecessary hiss throughout those faster parts. It's not something that'd sink the track on the panel, but it's something you could try to avoid in future arrangements by using less reverb on your more nimble instruments. Aside from that, I think you should submit it, as long as you can provide the source in the e-mail as well as the timestamps I suggested above. Looking forward to seeing it on the panel.
