Mainly the music, though - I'll forgive any lack of judgment if you write more MUSIC. Happy birthday, man.

That whole soundtrack is very sweet and under-remixed. Someday I may take a shot at something, but not right now . Show off your Buffalo song when you can, Level 99 - we'd love it for sure . That is correct .
-
Hey, if it was my birthday, I wouldn't care who the money came from, if I got it . Send him money, Meteo Xavier .

Good job, Will! Let's hear some goodness from your next midi - hopefully, with a round like this it means that more people are going to come around for the next few rounds. Nice round, overall .

Well, it sounds like your having a hell of a lot of fun with it, as it sounds great. I really like the change to 12/8 towards the end, very energetic. Too bad I don't know the source, but I'm sure it's there (unless your making a lot of crap up, there). The mastering sounds a bit hot in the mids, but other than that it sounds excellent. If this is what you do for fun I really want to know what you take seriously. Very nice - now finish it .

Metroid Prime ReMix- The Hope of The Galaxy
Gario replied to Nabeel Ansari's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Probably because it's always up at the top, there. Essence of Lime is a near-full blown project, so it's bound to get more attention because it's a combination of many mixes, and James' post was... special. Don't worry, it doesn't mean your post isn't special, too . -
Final Fantasy VII - Fighting (Rock Remix)
Gario replied to James_The_Composer's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Who revived this thread... Nekofrog, what'd you do something like that for? Your an ass . Yeah, and Jabond, don't go posting the guy's stuff just so we can make fun of it - even if the guy was stuck up it's unethical. I actually saw him around in the original WIP forum and the stuff he posted wasn't half bad (although due to the variance in the styles I'm not completely sure most of it was his ). Let this thread be ignored into obscurity, please. -
Hmm... This does sound intriguing... If Rozo hasn't taken the job already, I'm more than willing to write some stuff up for you.

OP is a few hours INTO THE FUTURE!! I'd like to be a part of the future, so happy birthday, DJP! May you have success in the future ('cause if you don't this site would go down, and that would be bad )!

I only have time to listen to the first track. I swear I'll listen to the second track as soon as I can... unfortunately that won't be until this Monday (the large files are making it hard to download at home, right now ). However, from the first track I can tell you your levels are pretty loud, right now. The highs in the track are physically hurting my ears, atm... turn them down, a lot. Otherwise, a sweet track you've got going. I really, really liked the intro to the whole thing, and the epic feel works well. Do you plan on incorporating Nightwish-like singing into this? That would be pretty sweet. I haven't heard the other track yet (like I said, I probably won't until Monday). Best of luck with this.

Videogame Messageboard Reaction Chart
Gario replied to prophetik music's topic in General Discussion
No, should I have? -
Sorry for the late response... The guitar hits some sour notes. I'd just stick to the source, for that tiny part . Wow, nice organ - I couldn't hear it before. The balance of the mix is doing better, I'll admit. The guitar still drowns the orchestra when it shouldn't from time to time, but that's not hard to fix (I don't think). Yeah, keep cleaning it up - I don't have my volume up enough to give you better feedback (sorry!)... Isn't anyone else gonna help a brotha remixer out?
-
Wow, really? I always wondered what happened to the whole Descent series... It was a good series, too .
-
Yup, the verdict is... 6/8 or 12/8 .
-
I think 6/8 is right - each phrase is only two dotted quarters long. I'd like to open the file to see it myself (perhaps your barring is wrong, which leads you to think it isn't in 6/8 or something) but I never had Finale (and this isn't a computer that I can download notepad on). If you can get a PDF up or something that would be great . It's 6/8, but 12/8 could work too, if you wanted it to (much like 4/4 can work for some 2/4 songs).

Hello, original game music. Quick question - why is the low fi on purpose? I can't think of a reason to make something low fi unless there are some limitations with a tracker or such, or if heavy compression is needed to fit the file in the game. Anyhow... Yes, if it needs to be low fi for one reason or another, the hats and cymbals can be taken down a bit to match the rest of the game, I agree. You know that though . What is that choir/guitar combo sample you use? It just sounds funny together like that - I'd suggest something like a Saw or something if this is low fi. I like the background textures, though - they're nice. There's no real melody in there until about halfway into the song - it sounds like it meanders a bit too much for me (in the second half of the song it sounds fine, though). Even if there is no intention to add a melody making the instruments sound a little more smooth and coherent will help. What game are you developing this for? It sounds neat, so far . Tis' a shame people don't check these boards more often - originals need feedback too .

Ironic that your a fan of SSBB, Mew2King... He was kicked out of that game, so why would that make it your favorite? Did you usurp the little bugger and take the crown for yourself? ARE YOU LUCARIO IN DISGUISE?! Alright, but seriously, Audix seems to have a pretty good WIP of the only original theme in ssbb - check it out ..

Dude, if Chicken Warlord so happens to see your message, I'll be surprised - look at the posting date .

Ha, I ninja'd your ass, Rozo.Yeah, Garage Band is a Mac-only program. I've never used it myself, though . Your title is the exact same, by the way - change it by hitting 'Edit' on your first post and click 'Go Advanced'. You can change the title from there - that 'Were' thing is annoying .
-
Right - I'm linking to the Myspace as it has the music on there. Thanks, Meteo (and Nase) !
-
Just letting you all know, there are already two threads dedicated to this topic, this one and this one. Look through them - you'll find many opinions on this very subject. I don't have my very first remix on me, but I've got it lying around somewhere...
-
That link is dead, Meteo... .

Hearing your stuff from the FFIV project (which was absolutely gorgeous), I'd say you should re-record the vocal track - there are a few tuning issues that I hear in there (your main vocal part has a tendency to go a little flat, while your doubling tends to go a touch sharp when it moves away from the main line), and I know you are perfectly capable of perfection . Sure, adding some studio magic could help mask it a bit, but it would be ideal to record it perfectly. Don't take my criticism the wrong way - if you were someone else, I would've said the vocal track was great, but we know your capable of even better stuff so I can't let you get away with it . Otherwise, beautiful track. I like the tightness of the accompanying track - it works well for a song like this. It needs a proper ending, but it's just about there. Great, great work - I look forward to an update (and I hope I help).

One of my students came up to me a week ago and gave me a CD of a local band, telling me to check it out. Interestingly enough, it was a band that I was already familiar with, but the music on the CD was... well, 'meh', at best. However, I remembered that their first album was pretty good, so I decided to try and get a copy of the CD for the student to check out (before anyone gets upset at me for burning the music, it's freely available on their site so it's pretty much in public domain). When burning it, however, I found that their music wasn't pretty good - it was really good. Something that I would pay money to get (which I did when I got the album ). Because I haven't been in the local scene for a few years now I tend to forget that some authentically good music is circulating among the crowd. The problem is that some terrible music is also circulating so that often sways people's opinion on local music, in general. I propose that we give some attention to those people that don't have any attention out there - most of them have some sort of website they post some of their music on for free, so let's help out our fellow musicians here by providing a place where people can find all sorts of links to local music everywhere. I'll look through the thread and post all the links provided on the front page - let's give some love to these musicians! Post the hometown of the band and the genre (metal and rock aren't the only genres of local music out there ), and feel free to suggest a song or two of theirs to listen to. Also, if you have a local band of some sort, go ahead and put it up here - the more publicity the better . I do not advocate posting any music from these bands here - only their website. Posting their music here infringes on their intellectual property; I'm trying to help them, not hurt them more. Link to their website, instead, and hopefully they will have a music player that plays their stuff. I prefer to link to a myspace because generally there is some music to listen to, there, but if their own site has their music on it I'll certainly link that. Hemlock is a good ol' metal band that's been around for about 10 years from Las Vegas, NV. They sound a bit like Hatebreed to me, but they're just fun to listen to. I highly recommend 'Kill your Children' - damn awesome song - and 'No Time for Sorrow' (pretty good as well). Their recording is a bit rough for the earlier stuff, but man, the music of their first album is very, very good. Local Bands posted here Hemlock - Metal - Las Vegas, NV Zombie Bazooka Patrol - Rock & Roll - Sevier County, TN Pollicer - Electronic Dance - Phillidelphia, PA Chemical Discipline - Metal - Fayetteville, AR The Battle Within - Metal - Fayetteville, AR Maktub - Rock/funk/soul - Seattle, WA

What genre of music is Final Fantasy VIII's "Eyes on Me"?
Gario replied to sephfire's topic in General Discussion
Oh, I was wondering what it was... but it isn't that great, either. Listen to that recording on Eyes on Me - waaaaay to wet, and that singer is a bit too thin. It's hard to make out what's going on, there . I'm sure other renditions are better because they'll tend to clean up that stuff and make the actual music legible. Fortunately, they're not going through the J's panel, so they don't need to worry about their quality as much .
