finished Mega Man 1 Cover Playthrough/Remade (8-bit cover project)
Gario replied to RushJet1's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Aww yeah - more RushJet1 action! brb, listening to album now... EDIT: Didn't take more than a few tracks to get me convinced that this is just as sexy as your MM3 arrangement album - maybe even more so, 'cause it sounds like you expand the themes just a little more this time around, from the little that I heard on it so far. Very nice work, as expected, man. -
Happy birthday, man, and congratulations on your first mixpost

OCR02762 - Bionic Commando "Rearming Commandus"
Gario replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Shit on like... what? The game has an entire album dedicated to it now, with a variety of electronic genres (as well as an orchestral and metal arrangement in there). I doubt that qualifies as being "shit on". If you don't like one song, try listening to one of the other tracks - something might stand out that you enjoy. Seeing that it's one of your favorite games on the NES, you'd do well to listen to the rest of the album. As for the mix - dirty and heavy. Sets up the track nicely with some chiptunes before dropping the dirt on us all. Personally, I like what Rockos did with it, but to each his own. -
*Shrug* Which is most of us. Sometimes, though, it's just easier to enjoy what's there rather than getting upset at what we missed - life is more pleasant that way.

Who knows, maybe they'll appreciate an official album from OCR, when the time comes. Dreaming is good - since sometimes dreams come true. If Capcom sets a nice little precedent with this album, more companies may want to officially endorse albums in the future, which is not a bad thing at all. As far as this album goes, I'm surprised that people are shocked that this topic came up - I personally thought it would generate more anger than the FF6 kickstarter, but most people seem to be quite understanding of it (which is awesome). Like DjP said, it's actually nice that Blue_Drac came out and asked about it since it puts the question on the table, allowing the staff to answer questions on it, rather than simply walking away from the site, so I give kudos to that. I just hope the initial reaction doesn't turn him off to the site or it's music in the future. I don't think I can add anything that hasn't already been said, so look at DjP and LT's posts, if y'all want answers to the OP's question

Finished mine, just in time for the listening party. I'm uploading to you right now, so it'll be a second, Chernabogue. -

OCRA-0044 - Bionic Commando ReMixed: OK, We'll Groove
Gario replied to Brandon Strader's topic in Album Reviews & Comments
Man, I hope more people give this a listen. It really has some great gems in it. Personally, I like Phonetic Heroes' track the most - it just has some great flavor that I didn't expect in it. Hylian Lemon's track is fun, too, and Rockos' track sets the tone so damn well. Love the music on this one, and am very happy to have participated. -

Man, this competition was intense. Dem Handsome Devils were biting our heels this whole time - very proud of my team that we pulled out on top! Great competition, everyone!

If you're looking for feedback on the Christian message you could go in the OCR Christians thread in the PP&R forum - you'd likely get lyrical feedback there.
-
Best part of that baby-blue game. You don't know the satisfaction until you've done it yourself.
-
I don't know of any Christian music being done for OCR before, though I have given it some real thought (though I'd be going more for traditional latin mass, myself). The site should not reject it on grounds that it has a Christian message (there are no rules against it), though you'll probably get people in the comments section saying it'd be better without the words. Two suggestions on this: First, write music that is well produced and is still recognizable as the source tune, since those are the grounds that you could get knocked down by. Second, make the lyrics/singing integral to the music, as it'd be no good if you made a track with a Christian message and have a NO/RESUB suggestion of removing the lyrics because they sound 'tacked on'. I've actually been wondering when someone would try to pull this off - let's see something happen!

Bionic Commando ReMixed: OK, We'll Groove - History
Gario replied to Brandon Strader's topic in Projects
Ooo, this is the first time my music has ever been in the trailer for an album! Sexiness all around! For those that still have to wait for release before being able to listen to it, this album contains a great amount of musical sex. I highly recommend it. -

I have a Cubase Dongle. Actually, I think I'll start learning it in earnest next year. Um, also, my track is coming through the pipes, and it's pretty sweet. Hang tight, all! -
"Moving on" from OC ReMix (split from BGC apology)
Gario replied to djpretzel's topic in General Discussion
No kidding - terrible time to catch the flu. Oh hey, it's BGC. 'Sup, I still love your music. -
Well, you say conservative, but no covers, but it needs to be in the same genre... I can't think of anything other than a few very specific songs that could qualify as this. Another issue that I could see is that this restricts people who simply can't write in a similar genre to the game in question will just be left out - that makes it tough to gather the proper participants in such a compo.

Five workshop mods at the moment, actually - currently, Rozovian, Flexstyle, ambient, Level 99 and myself all hold that position. Understand that we do other things for this site as well, though, so while some aren't as active in here as others, they're often working hard in other areas in the site behind the scenes. Gario General information Real name: Gregory Nourse Location: Palos Verdes Estate, California, USA Occupation: Electrical Engineer (Student), General Contractor Preferred method of contact: Skype (TheGreatGario), PM Also reachable by: AIM, Newgrounds PM (Gario), FB Five OSTs I recommend: Dragonseed, Megaman Soccer, Final Fantasy 8, Utopia (SNES), Saga 2/3 (Final Fantasy Legends, in USA) About me: I have my degree in Music Theory and Composition from UNM (back in 2008... hard to believe it's been that long already), and as such I've actually had a lot of experience listening to all sorts of styles of music (both tonal and atonal). As such, one area I'm particularly keen on is arrangement, voice leading and orchestration of the track. As of 2008 I've done a lot of work on my own learning the ins and outs of production, so I can give some solid advice on that front, as well. I'd like to be as diligent as possible on these boards, though unfortunately I've only had time to browse them actively once a week, roughly. If you send out a PM I'd be happy to direct some Mod Review justice your way, though - a friendly request often serves you well!

finished Portal 2 - Reconstructing Science (Motion Sickness)
Gario replied to Eino Keskitalo's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
MOD REVIEW Alright, let's see what we've got here. The arrangement has got the theme all in it... in the baseline. While I can't necessarily fault you for that (site rules don't prohibit this, after all), it does make it difficult to write the piece in a way that the listener will focus on it as the theme. Unfortunately, I find that after the first iteration or so of the theme the track seems to lose focus of the source, having a lot of distraction caused by the neat stuff you wrote above the baseline. It's unfortunately human nature that we'll focus on the upper lines, which makes it actually hard to associate it with the source, in this case. In short - the source doesn't seem to be the focus of this arrangement, and I think the judges would call you on that. That snare sounds weird. It needs to have a tighter sound, and it needs to be tonally higher - it sounds messy and unfitting with the song, as it is. The soundscape sounds like it's missing the middle if it's EQ range, which makes it sound hollow overall. Either make the instruments that you have fill this space better, or use an instrument to fill that space (pads work wonders for this - just be sure to watch for clipping!). I like the structure of the arrangement - it balances the piece out nicely, and it makes good sense. However, I fear the source isn't focused enough in here, the soundscape sounds hollow and the snare needs a makeover. After you do that, send it to Mod review and I'll get to it right away (at least, sooner than I did this time). Also, thanks for the PM - I meant what I said in that thread earlier. I'd like to catch fallthrough Mod reviews, if at all possible, so I'm glad you called me on my offer in that thread. -
Derp, yeah, Mod review is still a thing. I admit I need to get in there and do my part more often. If the thread is over a month old, though, oftentimes it slipped behind the cracks and the reviewers just missed it before it got pushed off the front page. If people find that happening, a PM to a mod can often help get it the attention it needs. Late response is late.

Huh, sounds like my first effective foray into a more trance style didn't fly among audiences as well as I'd have hoped. I don't mind if people vote for others rather than myself (especially since people really pulled out all the stops this round), but I do find it odd that people think it's bland or uninspired. I just wanted to do something that different (that is, not 9-bit) for this round, that's all. *Shrug* Oh well, I still find it enjoyable.

Heh, looks like you had a lot of fun with these things, here. They sound kind of like Pogo music, which is always a good thing.
