  1. Just watched the vid - gonna ignore the convo that seems to have been happening in here since I really don't want to wade through all of it, lol. I see where she's coming from, and I certainly agree that the DiD trope is a reflection of how people place men and women culturally, but I found her representation to be heavy handed (King Kong was about a woman being kidnapped by an ape? Really, nice job incorrectly reducing the movie, there) and her style of speech to be very drawl (it was actually kind of hard to watch because of that, in fact) - it was like watching someone read a script. I am nonetheless interested to hear what else she has to say, so I suppose her video series is off to an alright start.
  2. MOD REVIEW Mmm, Unatco. Can't really get enough of that track (considering I did one myself, some time ago), so let's see what you did, here. Sounds nice - much like an updated version of the track. The instrumentation sounds pretty close to the source (better quality, but close to the original). The arrangement is pretty close to the original, as well. That will likely kill it's chances to get posted on the site, but I'll expand on that in a second. Production-wise, it's not too bad. The big complaint that I'd have is that the drums stick out in comparison to the rest of the mix, that trapset style, as well as the snares piercing through with the highs on it. The compression on the bass was a bit distracting, as well. This style calls for more electronic style drums and less acoustic sounding ones - perhaps you could make it work, but in this track they don't do anything of any interest to justify them. Now, about my comment earlier - this track is simply too conservative for an OCR submission. It's nothing to do with your skill and talent, but the site wants to have more interpretive arrangement and/or instrumentation; it's a part of why DjP created the site, in the first place. At the moment, the instrumentation is an update on the original, and the arrangement is nearly identical to the original, in terms of structure and substance. I always hate turning away good music due to site limitations (this is pretty darn good), but unfortunately this would not be accepted on OCR. If you want a submission on here, check out some other arrangements that are on here (like the Deus Ex arrangement) and see how they changed things up. See if you can get some ideas from other people on here and be sure to give it another shot, since I believe you could get something up to snuff, yet.
  3. This is really, really well done. I'm glad that you posted it in here - thanks, and nice work.
  4. I remember this from the compo - one of the best of the round, if I recall. Nice to see this one posted up here!
  5. Heh, thanks for the offer. I don't think I'll be able to contribute to that project, though, simply due to a combination of lack of time and lack of familiarity to the sources. Wish I could contribute, but no luck, this time around.

  6. Haha, yeah. Haven't forgot about it - it still is quite awesome, to my ear. I've been touching it up here and there, giving it a more bassy sound and working out the dub section so it sounded more... dubby. I'll submit it sometime in a month or two, I assure you.

  7. That cake is made out of irony. No tooth would be happy after biting into so much frosting. Happy birthday, man.
  8. Mmm, this is very tasty. Badass cruch-chip-mix that I highly recommend to those that like a little chugginess to their electronica mixes.
  9. MOD REVIEW Ooo, nice rocking feel to this one. The genre is working nice for the Wings portion of it, and the Baba Yetu portion fits in pretty seemlessly. I'm not gonna lie, though - I can't quite pull Chrono Cross out of this one. Not a problem, but... yeah, can't recognize it. Oh well. At 2:03 - 2:14 the lead gets lost with the rhythm. I understand that you want to have the other lead jump out right after, so instead of raising it an octave or even increasing the volume, instead try backing off the rhythm guitar at that part. The two parts share the same sonic space, so you need to give the lead some more room, there. The kick is a little too quiet, still. Personally, I like the click it's got - it just needs a little more salience, as it's not coming through as well as it should. Otherwise, a fun little track. I suspect if you fix that part where the lead clashes with the rhythm and perhaps push up the bass drum volume a tad you'll get a front page post with this one. Nice work!
  10. MOD REVIEW Mmm, the production is much tighter on this one. Nice work cleaning that up for us. On it's own, I like the track - it builds up to the source material and pulls some funky maneuvers over the source once it gets to he guts of it all. However, as an OCR submission I don't think it would pass, solely because it really does sound too close to the source structurally. Changing the melody around, or a chord here and there won't be able to amend this - it's at the very form of the song that you arranged that the OCR judges would have issue with. Mind you, it's not an issue with the track that would give you grief on the panel, it's an idiosyncrasy of the site (and it's requirement that the song not sound too much like a 'cover') that is the issue. The style/genre is similar to the original, the form takes no liberties and the themes that are there are played very straight, which puts it in a place that OCR will probably not accept, and for this track there's little that you can do about that. I enjoy it quite a bit for what it is, so nice work on it. I don't expect it to pass through the panel, though - if you make a new track (probably a different source, as you're probably bored of this one ) and try to play around with the structure of the track more, as well as placing different sections together in unconventional ways, you'll have a much better chance at passing a track through the panel. Best of luck, man.
  11. This is some sexy album stuffs from the both of you - I enjoyed it immensely. Nice work, guys!
  12. MOD REVIEW: Damn, you've got one sexy mix, here. The solos, the pacing, the production - it's all very tight. The only thing I was afraid of before I listened to the sources (which I'm not familiar with) was that it'd be too conservative because of how tight and fitting it sounded, but apparently you have more than enough variation. That 50/50 'rule' is just a rule of thumb, really - it's more about making it feel like the original than anything, and you've got that feeling nailed on this one. I'd say this is an easy pass, if you submit it. Nice, nice work on this one, guys!
  13. Final Fantasy 5. Had it in 1999 (back when emulation was all the rage), and gave it a shot. I heard the battle music when you get attacked by goblins, and I thought that song was terrible (I still do, actually), and I thought it was indicative of the game as a whole. I didn't try again for a few years (it just took up space on the family computer...). When I picked it up again and muscled through the poor music in the beginning, I found it actually has a very rich and wonderful soundtrack, and it was a really, really good Final Fantasy title (one of my personal favorites, actually). Makes me a little sad that I was turned off to it for so long.
  14. Yeah, it takes about that much time. It does show up as accepted in the Judges Queue, though, so you'll be on the site in the near future, I suspect.
  15. Please get this finished and submit it sometime soon. I love this song so much. I do have to agree with the ending, though. Just having the bass + drums with the slow down sounds empty and boring - why not keep the melody going with it, in order to give the slow down more color? Just a thought.
  16. Oh my God, it's Wily 1 from MM3. You have no idea how long I've been waiting for an arrangement of this one. You even mixed in some good ol' Wily 2 MM3 in there, which is also awesome. Some real sexy hard rock guitar playing in this one. I'm in love with this, man.
  17. MOD REVIEW Mmm, tasty, tasty orchestra. I love the deep, rich sounds you use throughout. There is a bit of a balance issue, though - rather than having things in the background and others in the foreground when appropriate, the track often has everything fighting for the front. This creates a muddy effect overall. When an instrument acts as harmony and another holds the theme, push them back and bring them out appropriately (and this applies to the piano's hands separately - left and right hand performances can be accented differently, as you deem appropriate). The arrangement seems a tad conservative, but it does take it's liberties. I'm on the fence on it, personally, but I think it'll pass, on that front. Production is tight. I can't say too much on that front. In all honesty, the balancing issue is the only real killer. Bring out the tracks that are most important and (more importantly) lower the volume on the tracks that are not as important - that'll allow the listener to make more sense out of the track. Good luck with it - it's a mighty sexy track that I'd like to see posted sometime
  18. Oh, something is happening with the album that soon? Ack, wish I knew about it beforehand, I'd have finished my other track for you. Could still finish it soon (have been working on it on and off), but at this point I don't know if you'd be taking it, if you're past the encoding stage of things. I will finish it either way, regardless, but it'd still be cool as an addition to the album.
  19. MOD REVIEW: Nice sound design on this one - I'm enjoying it the old school synths used throughout. I can understand the complaint that the synths may be too vanilla/retro, but in this context I feel they're well used. The arpeggio in the beginning was particularly effective. The production on this one is really hot, though - it sounds like the lead synths and bass are heavily limited and loud, which really makes the overall mix a mess. I recommend removing limiters and compressors and re-mixing the overall track to find a better balance to the mix, then use very little limiting to boost the volume a little, if needed. Work with it at a relatively quiet level where there is no clipping in the track, and boost the levels once you get it sounding cleaner and more crisp, overall. The arrangement doesn't hold my attention very well. The stacking textures style of arrangement works well enough in longer tracks, since there's time to build the track, but in a track that's less than three minutes with a one minute build up there's just too little time left to spend on developing the themes and material of the source. That forces you in a position where you need to be pretty conservative for the rest of the track, just to lay the original themes out there. The source is 1:52 minutes - with the minute of build up you have, that leaves you with barely enough time to just relay the original source to the audience and end the track (which is what it sounds like you do, for this track). I like the sound design, though, and the track overall sounds full, and is fun to listen to. I just don't think this one would be accepted on the panel, and since the issues are with the structure of the track itself and how it forces the music to be too conservative, I can't say it'd be worth trying to make it work for OCR, either. Save for the loudness issues, this is a good track - just not one that I could see OCR passing due to the site's policies.
  20. Hey there, welcome to OCR. If you want to get the most out of this site, I personally suggest posting some of your VG music in the Game Remixes workshop forum. It's always interesting to hear rap arrangements in the community, so I hope you provide us with some stuffs there. Heard your channel, by the way, not too bad overall. Some tracks area little rough around the edges, production-wise, but I think I like where you take your stuff.
  21. This game was just sexy. All dat Megaman action, and all that remixed music (brilliant, remixing SF themes into classic MM textures and tunes). Just awesomeness all around.
  22. With so much energy and fun, I'm surprised no one's taken notice of this one on here. There's just a whole lot of funk and movement in this one. While I agree that it's tricky to hear the source in this one, it's all there, and quite cleverly mixed into the textures and sliding melody. I like it, and hope more people get a chance to listen to it.
  23. Sorry, man - been away for a little while, and probably will be for the next week, too. I'll get back with you when I can.

  24. The choral part with words were The Eluryahn's work - all things considered, I thought it was a really nice touch. The choral 'Ooo's' are a custom combinator patch of mine for Reason (just my patch, though - he did the entire arrangement). Glad you liked it.
