  1. There isn't a Lufia 1 project, as of yet. This project used to cover both games, but there simply was no interest to remix Lufia 1's soundtrack, so it was dropped in favor of making this album more focused.
  2. Here's a thought on the compo - rather than making it a tiered or tournament styled competition, why not make it something that's bi-monthly or monthly? Something like presenting a single song or soundtrack that each group gets to chose from, allow three days to a week for each person who wants to participate to find a partner, allow for another week or two for remixing, then a week for voting. Winners get to pick next game or song and the competition repeats. With all of these tourney compos that have been cropping up lately it seems like it's ripe for an alternative to come up once again. Unlike other compos, there is the incentive to work with other experienced remixers (and the opportunity to help newer remixers, pending on which side that you're on), so people may volunteer for a compo like this one more so than normal. It also removes experienced remixers the obligation to participate immediately - if Willrock, Zircon, Sixto, Myself, etc., can't participate one round due to whatever time restrictions but still want to participate, they very well could in another round. It'll allow for more people to join in at their leisure.
  3. Aw man, I missed these. Nice, nice work on that one, man - at the end there, I was sweatin' bullet with you... Looked really tough.
  4. This is kind of awesome. Don't know how I missed it on April Fools... wait, yeah I do, I was on the road. Fortunately you all reposted it here, 'cause it's great. Nice almost-bad-but-not-quite-bad singing, all around.
  5. Pfft, no you don't - you could always not submit and give me a free pass. Very close round for the two of us though - I was sweating bullets all week.
  6. Pretty sure your vote counts as long as you vote for every mix in a given round. Seeing that the Sonic and Robotnik rounds are considered separate rounds for the sake of voting, I think you'll be alright, Dustin.
  7. If there were too many from one side or another, there's a few ways to approach that. You could, for example, simply bar users if there's one or two too many on a first-come-first-serve basis (there's 9 remixers and 11 newbs, for example) - plenty of competitions have done this before, out of necessity. One could also, in this case, rebalance one side or the other by shifting who's on what side (if there are, say, 12 remixers and 8 newbs, one could move two of the 'less experienced' remixers to the newb section, or vice versa, if the oppposite is the case). You could also impose a cap for either end, make it something like 12 - 18 remixers and the same number of newbs. Or just take what you can for a week, then announce what openings need to be filled after the week is over (if there were something like 30 newbs that joined and 25 remixers after the week was over, you could announce that the compo needs 5 more remixers and bar any more newbs from joining). There are plenty of ways to handle the situation - just pick one and move forward with it as best you can.
  8. It's probably because it's a pretty bass-heavy genre. When everything is roughly equal it's hard for any frequency to 'punch through' like it should in real dubstep.
  9. Seems like everyone is concurring that this is a good idea. Not sure if I'm going to be able to participate in this due to time constraints, but you never know. Schedule something, organize a bracket of sorts, etc., and make it happen, MindWanderer!
  10. That's one complicated (Zircon), Disturbing (Black Panther) and Awesome (Anorax) cake you guys have there. Enjoy them - happy birthday!
  11. That's a good listen, there. Hey, I have a secret track from this album from Shnabubula. At least, it should be a secret track on this album - it's pretty awesome, too. (It's also by Shnabubula, by the way - I'm not advertising myself, or anything ) SMKAtown
  12. Thanks for all of the response, guys (and the birthday wishes from Magellanic - good advice from him, too). I will certainly get back to this one as soon as I have the time to do so (maybe sooner rather than later, pending on how this fairs in the compo). Good mod reviews, too. So, fix the drops so they're more OMFGHEAVY and cut down some of the highs. Will do.
  13. Alright, just a note for people that are working on their music (Oh, I know you're out there!) - Bahamut's out for about two weeks, so if you have any updates and such be sure to send them my way.
  14. Aw man, I was gonna say Happy Birthday, but then I... Wait, JH already gave out the obligatory 'to the knee' joke. I guess I'm off the hook, then - hapy birthday, man.
  15. I have every intention of finishing the track - removing the rather slapped together ending, improve the dirty bass sound and lean on the strings less are a few of the things that the song really needs. I do hope when Zircon and McVaffe look at the music they take that into consideration, as being considered for the album is the sole reason I joined (I couldn't actually use the prizes, for the most part, save for Zircon's discography).
  16. Alright, Deia has enough attention going to her in this thread. Now we all need to give praise to the genius that guides her every action. ALL HAIL JOOJCAT!
  17. Woo, thanks for the thread, everyone! The cake is awesome, too - I'd so want to use a butcher knife on it while shouting 'EVERYONE'S GRUDGE!!', then point out the obvious irony of the situation after cutting the little bastard up... yeah, those guys always game me trouble... fucking stepmine. Only thing missing is the 'Nice Birthday' - it's just not a complete birthday without Coop's blessing, is it?
  18. Hmm... One thing that perks my interest is the whole Rack Extensions deal that's coming with 6.5. So from what I gather, it's essentially a development tool for 3rd party developers to create their own Reason rack devices (much like how other programs have VSTs, though it's not the same thing)? 'Cause that'd be pretty freakin' awesome.
  19. I think Zircon had a thread for that, though it's more like an 'Ask for a synth and we all can see if we can provide' thread. It's close enough, though.
  20. Ooo, I like what you did with those changes. Yeah, that's what that last section needed, there.

Not much else that I can add to this one - it's sounding quite good, to me. Good luck, and thanks for the b-day wishes! :)

  21. Well, you put the extra work into it, and I suspect it'll pay off in the panel. There's really not much else that I can say about this one - good luck!
  22. Melodically, yes, it's almost all distinctive (except the repeat in 1:44-2:02 - that's nearly a verbatim repeat, there) but structurally it repeats six times. Your harmonic and bass line from 1:34-1:43 repeats in precisely the same manner. Like I said, it sounds like you added some nice flourishes to what is in essence the same thing - melodic and timbrel changes aren't enough if the structure itself feels repetitive. Also, as I mentioned before there's the power of two rule that you break with that section, too (repeating the bass pattern six times, not two, four or eight times), so it feels asymmetrical. In my opinion, one of the repeats from 1:44 - 2:02 and the 2:21-2:29 section could be removed entirely and create a much smoother effect, overall. I don't think you'd even need to make any transition between parts; just straight up remove those parts and it would make that section sound much better. My opinion remains pretty close to what it was. You don't have to make any changes, of course, but I feel like it would clean up the middle section considerably, if you did.
  23. Hey everyone! Drop Bass Zone Source: Got a mix I'm going to send through the panel. I'd like to have a few more sets of ears take a gander at this and see if there's anything that I should do with it. There's one or two spots that I'll probably shorten by a bar or so, but otherwise I'm thinking it's pretty close to OCR standard, here. Any thoughts and critiques are appreciated.
  24. O rly? It looks like Brandon is having a tough time with Wildfire this round, and if I get through this time around I've got some pretty epic ideas that I'm going to be employing against my opposition, too. On the other side, Amphibious has been consistently awesome throughout the compo, so it's entirely possible for Rexy to be knocked out, as well. I'm honestly confused by your statement, there - no one at this point has been lagging enough in this compo for anyone to make any sort of prediction.
