  1. I was clarifying, for your sake. Sometimes people mean one thing and say another, since in normal human interaction they don't expect people to trip on details like that. There is no possible way that he could have meant anyone who hasn't heard of OUYA, as that makes no logical sense (unless one were to assume he's an imbecile - I don't, and I see no reason you should, either). EDIT: Crowbar Man is now Ninja Man. I see they have an extra 40$ campaign to give people a unique OUYA at launch. I can see that giving their systems a nice push in this last week, but I'll have to pass on it. Starting to feel the pinch on my pocket, and I'd rather spend that money on FF6 if/when that gets moving again.
  2. Pretty sure he does read - kind of hard to use a forum if he refused to do so. Reading between the lines and looking at things past their literal implications are also things he can apparently do, too - seven quotes from well known indie developers can easily infer a lot of other unspoken support ("almost every indie developer that's heard of OUYA" might be a pretty accurate guess, in fact). Also, in the little coding experience that I have I could easily see the transfer to OUYA from other platforms (specifically the Android) being incredibly easy, since it runs on the same engine. Changing from one input style to another is not a big deal - it's just making a few changes to what input affects what variable. Since the touch screen is rarely used in such a way that a controller would not physically be capable of handling the same functions, I could see a lot of popular games being transferable.
  3. Ah well, don't worry about it. I'll change that title for you, though. When you get word on your track's status you can always message one of the judges and send him/her a copy of the revised version - as long as the revision is objectively for the better and doesn't make any significant changes to the overall track they'd be happy to incorporate the changes before releasing the track (touching up the production on the vibes isn't a big change). They're pretty understanding people; as long as remixers don't make it a habit to do so I think they'll be alright with it. I think you're in the clear, regardless, so best of luck on the panel.
  4. Correct, and they do so through their business model, not by arbitrarily shutting out large companies. A large company willing to release games on the OUYA is a victory on their side, not a compromise - if larger companies release more games following the OUYA business model then they've succeeded in their goal in a larger way than expected. My mention of 'make-or-break' was in reference to the fact that one of the big issues that people have had about the system - it's lack of showing games in production for the system. There are currently two that I can see presented for it now, and one of them is from a big player in the software industry. That really helps alleviate the problem that it had. It didn't need to be Square - the fact that it is Square is icing on the cake. Also, yeah, Neblix is right - 1GB of RAM with a processor that's 1.4-1.6 GHz is plenty, as long as it's on a dedicated platform (as opposed to a computer, which needs to simultaneously handle hundreds of background tasks that come with the operating system). That's why gaming systems can generally get away with being inferior to PC's in raw power and yet perform reasonably close.
  5. MOD REVIEW Ooo, very moody. I like the style choice you've got, here. Source is there and nicely reinterpreted, so no conflict, there. That transition at 0:21... not sure if I'm comfortable with it, myself. It just comes out of the blue, and doesn't connect to the rest of the piece too well. I hear a few motions later that are similar, but are more subtle and soft - perhaps decreasing the intensity of it would help it meld better with the rest of the track. I hear the vibes at 0:22 crackling a little bit more than they should be. I know you're clipping them on purpose for effect, but overall it doesn't quite sound like it's purposeful. It's an odd suggestion, but I think it'd be beneficial to either make it clip more overall (Mmm, hard limiting), or clean up the clashing frequencies in the vibes so it's clean save for the louder, obviously purposeful clipping. Having the vibes sit somewhere in between ruins the effect when it's intentional, so either go all out or clean it up to maximize the effect when it's there. 2:33 was awesome. Excellent work with that transition. The arrangement is a little bit on the eclectic side, but it works alright. For future tracks you could play around with using older ideas from your own track to increase the cohesion - it'll make it easier for the listener to follow. Don't worry about it here, but it's something to think about for the future. Really, just that transition in the beginning and the vibes rub me the wrong way. You could probably send it in as is and get a pass on the panel, though. If you have time to spit shine it a little, those would be the two things to look at. Nice work - it sounds a little like Children of the Monkey Machine, which is a difficult style to pull off convincingly. The site needs more music like this, so I hope to see it on the front page sometime.
  6. Have a happy bithrday, Rexy - it's a lot like a birthday, 'cept it's misspelled horribly.
  7. It's an alright cover (those drums in the beginning were freakin' awesome, by the way). Sounds like a great song to practice on the guitar to, so no matter what I think you benefit by learning this song. Perhaps my observations could help generate ideas...?
  8. No, really, give the two themes a listen. That little arpeggio bit in the background? It's a reference to the 60's "Spi-der-man! Spi-der-man!", though it only completes half the motion in the 90's theme (the second half of the song completes the two way arpeggio, mirroring the 60's source better). The vocoded vocals? 'Spiderman, Spiderman. Radioactive Spiderman!' and 'Spiderblood, Spiderblood, Radioactive Spiderblood!' - both direct rips from lyrics in the old 60's theme. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cy3BEcU1k4c It's fucking brilliant, and the cartoon uses these themes as motifs throughout the show. I loved that cartoon, and still do. I'm still waiting on a version of the AngelCityOutlaw track that I can open, though - I'd like to hear his take on it.
  9. That's the kind of support that could really make or break this system. I do hope more bigger companies follow suit.
  10. This sets a site precedent - now if people are upset they will officially be breaking rules, which give DS the power to take action, when needed. That's what these rules are for.
  11. Gah, I can't listen to it - it's giving me a blank page. I was looking forward to listening to this, too. Interesting and little known fact - the 90's cartoon is a remix of the 60's Spiderman theme. You can even hear all of the lyrics from the old theme in the cartoon show. All of it's themes and motifs are directly ripped from the old show's theme song. It's... awesome.
  12. That song is fucking awesome. Reminds me of some good ol' Nightwish. Er, sorry, nothing useful to contribute to the discussion otherwise. Good luck with the remix, Brandon.
  13. I... didn't listen to him on KNGI. If he did mention anything, then I'm completely out of touch. Erm, probably should go listen to that myself then. Sorry, I'll remain speculate-free until more word comes from the DjP and Andy. Disregard my last post, lol.
  14. Square hasn't shut down the FFVI project entirely - jut the kickstarter. There's no need to imply that the FFVI album won't be released for free on this site, as that's currently not true. No one said otherwise - it was stated in the kickstarter itself that some of the extra proceeds would go back into the site (and other proceeds would allow the site to give out better prizes, like the FF7 printing). The only precedent being set by this incident as of yet is that Square-Enix isn't allowing people to use their IP to push a donation drive, in the worst case scenario (that is, if OCR is forced to close off it's KS). There is no lean against the site or the remixes that people continue to produce, as of yet, nor is there reason to believe that this will be the case. You're creating a slippery slope, with your reasoning. Remember, Square-Enix is pushing against the donations for the printing of this album, not the release that will be on this site. They are two separate things.
  15. Nice choice in sounds. I kind of wish they weren't all drowned out by the bass drum, though - you could easily afford to lower the volume on the bass drums and raise the level on everything else accordingly. Otherwise I like the sound of this one. Yeah, it's conservative, but if you're not shooting for an OCR release then there's no problem. That bass drum kind of kills the mix, though - fix it up so that it's not so loud.
  16. MOD REVIEW Alright, so this one has some nice production values to it. The arrangement has the source in it (though it still sounds like Zelda: ALTTP Light world dungeon music, to me... ), and it has a pretty solid structure to it. It's feeling a bit long to me, though, and the square melody that rings throughout the track feels like it meanders around a lot. All of the change-ups help it out, but the melody still just feels like random wankery when you decide to wank on it. Don't read into that sentence any more than you need to. With good wank, the wank lines move from one point to another - without that it sounds like the wank is just there to wank, and that's not really a good sound. The length does feel completely needless, though - I feel an entire song up to 4:52, with an ending little drop, there... then the song continues. I'd suggest cutting off the ending entirely, and closing the song at that point. The background pad is pretty vanilla. Not much that I can suggest otherwise - maybe a pad with some muted upper partials? - but it did stand out as being under par to the rest of the track. I think you can leave it safely, for the sake of the OCR panel, but I thought I should point it out. Otherwise, it's pretty good. Cut the length of the track and perhaps mess around with the square wank so it sounds less like wank and you'll be in good shape. Good luck!
  17. I've been catching up with the school that I've been pushing back due to this compo (for realz). This thing put me so far behind. Totally worth it, though.
  18. You should definitely hook up with and do some awesome cello-duetting.He's AeroZ, by the way, an awesome electronic artist and cellist on the site, himself. You're more than welcome on the site, with your talents
  19. Nice, a picture of some dude holding DjPretzel. Happy birthday, pretzel-man.
  20. Oh hey, it's your birthday, and you have no thread. Happy birthday, Dave.

  21. These look like tricks that I used to use for my MIDI compositions, back in the day. The way you presented it was clean and effective - nice work on that. One other trick to widening the sound is to offset the additional instruments by varying amounts, pending on how wet you want the custom reverb to sound (varying from 1/32 to 1/8 per added track). The different strike times make for a richer sound. Try it out.
  22. Nope, he's got it right - this is an original based on the style, not an arrangement of a pre-existing tune. This is really excellent, by the way. I could easily see this being included in a Mario Galaxy game, no problem. I hope to hear more from you - an arrangement of a non-Mario Galaxy VG song would be an excellent arrangement, indeed... *nudge-nudge*
  23. This is correct. FACT: Zircon and DjP have said they are taking care of the issue. FACT: DjP has told everyone to hang tight and he'll shed more light on the situation when he can. Everything else is speculation, so save for the facts I just presented ignore everyone else's guessing and ranting. The only thing you can do is sit tight and wait. It's no fun to wait, but there's nothing else anyone can productively do, at the moment.
  24. or Death... I was laughing harder than I should've been in the theater, because that's all that I could think of, in that scene.
  25. Very nice, Amphibious - a win well deserved. Welp, I better start catching up on life, now. The shit I've put on hold for this compo... lol.
