  1. Thank you for comments!! I appreciate the feedback, sometimes its hard to get good feedback on your work. Anyways, in Agency, the intro is a guitar just with a ton of effects on it. Which is what i was going for. And yeah, sometimes its still tough for me to mix metal near perfectly. In Death's Armada, i was playing at 200bpm, and sometimes those triplets can be a pain to keep up with! lol As for the velocities/humanization of the snares, i use beatcraft and as far as i know i can't add/change any of those settings. I wish i could, it would give my drums a little more "realistic" feel to it instead like it was just quickly programmed. Maybe i need a new drum program altogether.
  2. This also happens to be the music for the Culex battle from Super Mario RPG. Its funny cause i meant to do the Mario RPG version as my main remix, but somehow completely forgot that's originally from FF4!! Oh well, at least i remembered, i must've been pretty damn tired when i decided to do this remix! lol Anywho, here it is: http://tindeck.com/listen/hhvi and its in 320kbps. Or from http://rapidshare.com/files/214159727/NintenJoe_64_-__Final_Fantasy_4_IV_Boss_Battle_.mp3 which is also 320kbps. I think i got everything, but we all miss things sometimes. I'm not quite sure what to name this remix, i was thinking Final Breath, but i'm not sure how i feel about that. Also, i used a different drum kit entirely for this project so let me know how that sounds.
  3. First of all, i really appreciate all the compliments to my remix. Its hard getting any exposure for my music and remixes. I am absolutely up to collab requests. Seeing how its just me, i like outside input into my music once and a while. And i'll have to look into Breath Of Fire II and see if i can't work something out. I think i'll submit my final version of the Zelda remix now and see what the judges have to say. And also, my FF4 Boss Battle remix is just about done, i'm putting some final touches on it and should be posting in within a couple hours or so.
  4. Yeah, the double kick drum parts were always a hassle for me to mix through. I think i finally got it kinda where i want it with this version. Also, i'm not sure if you listened to the very first version or one of the later ones. Either way check this one and let me know how you feel about this one. http://tindeck.com/listen/xiix
  5. I've got 3 new WiP's and was just wondering what you guys though of them. Death's Armada spans a lot of the metal genre mostly metalcore and power metal. Its definitely a heavy track. Also the vocals you hear are Ollie Williams from Family Guy. I don't know why i put them in there, was just bored i guess. lol http://www.tindeck.com/listen/uvmn Spirit is probably one of my fav tracks that i ever wrote. Its very metalcore and power/prog metal and has a crap load of riffs and leads in it. It took me a good couple weeks to bang this one out. http://www.tindeck.com/listen/bsna Agency is an interesting song. The chorus is very catchy and i was trying to give the whole track a very futuristic vibe to it. Especially in the intro and some of the verse parts. http://www.tindeck.com/listen/kpxj Please let me know what you guys think?
  6. Not at all because there's that minute or so build up to main theme. And each instruments comes in at the right time towards the main theme as well.
  7. Yeah, i think its finally ready for the judges panel to decide on this. And thank you for the compliment! Anytime i do a remix, i do it in the style of power/prog metal. I'm a huge fan of that genre of music in general, so it come out in my remixing/writing. My next remix i'm gonna put up here and see what people think about is the remix for the boss battle theme from Final Fantasy 4 and its also the same theme from the Culex battle from Super Mario RPG.
  8. I like it so far. Its got a good intro, per se, and the lead in to the chorus (as i called the main theme). The drums have a nice beat too them. Its very fluid with the song. The background synth sounds nice and adds that club/electronic sound that you were obviously going for. The lead synth fits in very nice as well When it gets to the 'chorus', as i call it, everything comes together perfectly. Even the bass is nice and has a full sound to it. I think where this version ends, maybe a nice breakdown with just the bass drum kicking and the bass going and then fading in some synth strings or such. I'm more of a rock/metal remixer, but i've heard a lot of club/techno remixes to know when it sounds good. I don't really have any complaints so far, other than length, which i know your working on.
  9. Thank you for the comment, i do appreciate it. Sometimes its hard to find anyone who'll critique compositions. Anyways, as for the guitars, i kinda noticed that myself. I'll have to go back and fix them.
  10. I'm sorry, i didn't mean to offend you. I was just trying to give you any sort of feedback on your stuff. I do like it, its very melodic and captures the tone you were going for.
  11. I gotta say, this version is leaps and bounds better than first in terms of production. Nice bass, especially with the drums, and everything seems to fit in nicely and doesn't overpower anything else. As for the guitars, do you have just one track? It sounds like. What you can do to get that fuller and more stereo sound is to record to 2 tracks pan them opposite each other. So one track comes out the left speaker and the other the right speaker. Thats about the only thing i see about improving the guitars. I do kinda agree that if your gonna add vocals, maybe bring them in sooner in the song. The placement, production wise, is very good. Its not too overpowering, yet stands out amongst everything. I think adding the 2nd guitar track and panning them 100% left and right would make a great improvement for this song. Other than that, it sounds awesome man!
  12. BTW, its not actually a harpsichord, its actually a vst effect called Rebar ( http://www.tweakbench.com/rebar ). I'm not really sure why didn't answer that earlier, but there ya go! It does sound a lot like a harpsichord, maybe its based off of one.
  13. I like these songs. They're very melodic and ambient, which is obviously what you were going for! lol Ornamekias - A Slight Wave from Above I like this song, it has a kind of dark side to it. By dark, i mean, that it places you a setting in the middle of the dead winter. Where its unbelieveably cold and dark outside. I don't think there's anything i caught that was off about this song. My only insight is that the outro is a little sudden, or unexpected. At least on my part it was. Icidina - The High-Shiva of the Frozen Glacier-Plains Its actually mixed pretty well. I think drums seem to be overpowering everything else. The other instruments seem to on level. I like the slow build up and the way it fades it out. Very nice!
  14. Ya know, i was thinking. Your Liljedahl track, at least to me, would sound awesome with a nice guitar solo somewhere in the breakdown/interlude before the last 'chorus'. I was playing along with it and think i came up with a pretty good sound for it! Let me know, i'm not really sure if your up to collabs.
  15. That's cool. That's about how i do my music. I play guitar and guitar only but use the vst instruments for everything else.
  16. I think its heading in a good direction, but i do have a couple comments. I'm not sure if your going for the classic 16-bit sound with this or not, but I think adding some stronger sounding drums might give the track some more power and emotion to it. And seeing as how you only have a bass drum and cymbals, you can use something like a concert drum. Overall though, the arrangement is very good and all the instruments shine through. What do you use for your recording needs? Programs, instruments, etc.
  17. This track definitely has the energy and power it should have! I'm not sure if you plan on making the track longer than this, but its something to consider. Maybe adding a nice break followed by a solo could help change it up while making the track longer. That being said i can get to the mixing/production. The intro has too much static/clipping going on. Maybe turning down the project volume then adjusting the rythym volume could help fix this. The drums are pretty good, not too many problems there. If your not running a compressor on it, give it a shot and then you can boost the lows and highs with an EQ. Anyways, i think starting by turning down the projects volume might clear everything up nicely. And the playing is spot on and impressive. Overall, its a very good start and i can't wait to hear the end result. For a good example of mixing, check out my Zelda NES Labyrinth remix at http://www.soundlantern.com/SoundPage.do?ToId=36238&Path=4868903232009071813.mp3 . It'll stream it to your PC.
  18. I like this. Its very melodic and reminds me of the cold of winter. Maybe its just me, but i think a nice guitar solo over parts of the song would sound awesome. I would like to hear the completed song though, i think its worth the wait!
  19. I really love your style man! These songs are what i've been wanting to capture in my electronic/prog rock songs but cannot. I mostly write rock/metal so i guess its not a very familiar territory when it comes to writing. Liljedahl - This song is awesome! I love the overall tone of it. I think the length is very approriate for what you were going for with this song. I love the vocals at the end, and if there were someway to add more vocals to other parts of the track as well, that would be even better! Agent X2 - I like the tempo/pace of it already, and the synths that you use are awesome. they kinda remind me of sounds from an old Sonic game or something. Where did you get those synths? Commando - The tempo is spot on and all the leads/synths I think a little break with a cool synth solo would add some more variety to the track. Promises - This track really captures the japanese anime sound. Its not really a fav of mine, but you still did an awesome job here. I think maybe some leads would add a little more variety to the song as well. Anyways, do you play all the instruments yourself? Especially the keyboards? Sounds like you use a chip tune keyboard or something along those lines. Keep up the good work!
  20. This is a very rockin track! I love the sound! What do you use when record? And do you play all the instruments?
  21. For WIP hosting, i like using soundlantern.com . Its free, and kinda like if youtube just did music and nothing else. And when you post a track as long as the original quality isn't bad you don't lose much when streaming it via their server. Anyways, i really like the feel of this song. Kinda reminds me of something from Final Fantasy VII. And as far as mixing and production go, its already perfect. Nothing blends to much or clips anything else in the song. Maybe the only thing you could add is some kind of piano solo somewhere in the middle. It might give it a little more atmosphere to the song.
  22. I like this, and i've done that before with writing a riff or song on a guitar but found out it works better in an electronic type song. The mixing and production is very well done, i have nothing to complain about with that at all! I think the only complaint i have is that sometimes the snare seems too loud during the verses, or quieter parts. But that might just be me.
  23. Actually, yeah, maybe turning the bass down for the whole project would get rid of that. Let me know when you change it up!
  24. First off man, i love the sound of the song, its awesome. Its very similar to the style i play, especially when doing video game remixes. Check out my zelda labyrinth remix at http://www.soundlantern.com/UpdatedSoundPage.do?ToId=36238 . Anyways, i think the overall mixing isn't too bad, but i think too many things blend into too many other things. I think maybe if you applied an EQ on the whole project level it would help out clearing up some of the noise. Try bringing the highs up a little and the bass up the little and maybe lowering the mids just a tad. Maybe adding a slight chorus and delay effect to the lead will help it stand a little more. And make sure the rythym guitars are panned as far to the side as they can go. Also, are you using a compressor? I'm not sure if you are, but if you aren't, give it a shot. I usually run a compressor on the drums and then again on the whole project. This can help clear up a lot of the in-between noise of the different tracks. The vocals are an awesome touch that you don't see in many video game remixes. Again, i think if you ran a compressor and some slight EQ changes to help bring the vocals out a little more that would help with overall finished quality of the song. I would love to hear the finished version of this track!
