  1. I've got a few more WIPs here for all to hear. And of course feedback is appreciated, but then again why would i be posting them if i didn't want feedback! Anyways, these 3 songs are all about power metal and progressive rock. The first is Fate, which is very power metal influenced. I might still change the solo lead around a bit. I recorded it a long time ago and just got back to mixing it proper. http://tindeck.com/listen/jhmb The second is Limitless Power, which has, again, a very power metal influence. ts a lot more progressive rock sounding though. http://tindeck.com/listen/zcfh The last is Be Strong. It has a long intro, but i wanted to set the mood for the rest of the song. Its very powerful and gets you thinking about life. The intro is a guy driving a car gets hit by a train, not really sure how, but he does. And the rest of the song is him looking back at life. http://tindeck.com/listen/xlah Please let me know what you guys think? And also, if anyone has any thoughts about doing a collab, whether its just music or a game ReMix, let me know! Thanks!
  2. Still though, its an awesome mix. I still listen once a day or so. Partially cause i live in an apartment and the bass bugs my downstairs neightbor. lol
  3. Yeah, unfortunately when i was taking guitar classes back in high school, i should've paid more attention to the theory of the music instead of just playing faster. lol, but i stay on rythym just fine....usually....
  4. I like this, its very well done. Do you play the piano/keyboard? Also, i agree that the (steel?) drum thing is kinda annoying over the top of the drum beat. Its fine in the intro, but it doesn't seem to mesh well anywhere else other than the intro. I think if you just got rid of it and just kept the drum beat for the rest of the song, that would be ok. Other than that, i don't think the EQ is too off, i think its pretty. I think maybe some of the instruments, especially the piano, could benefit from some higher EQs though.
  5. I don't think the original is in 4/4 time. Or at least when i remixed it, i did it in 4/4 time using sets of 8 measures to make is somewhat easier on myself and to give my version a little more structure. I listened to the original on youtube via the link you left and i think i do hear a note or two that is different. I'm not really sure though.
  6. I appreciate your comments evktalo. This particular ReMix has been a long road to getting it right. The intro synth pans a lot due to the default settings, and to be completely honest, i'm not really sure how to get it to stop spinning like that. But i do have an idea about though. As for the notes in scales, especially where you pointed out, its actually taken from the source material.. Maybe the midi file i based my notes on were actually off, but i think they're the correct notes. I think the way the source was written it was meant to be like that? I'll double check that too. As for my big solo, the backing guitar is playing the lower notes from the source material and then just adding the 8th and 5th note from the chord. And the ending for that was a little death metal riff i added. Again i appreciate your comments and i'll see if i can find the particular notes your talking about. And if you don't mind, check out my FF4 ReMix and let me know what ya think of it as well. http://www.ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=22650
  7. Nice! I like this, its very moving. I do agree that a violin as a second melody would really add more depth to the song as well as a second solo. Are you recording the guitar and vocals in one shot? Or separately? Either way, it still sounds pretty good. A little reverb, especially on the vocals, might add some more dimension to them and make them stand a little more. All in all though, its very good so far!
  8. I still haven't actually submitted it yet, cause i previously submitted a remix for RC Pro AM for the NES and i'm awaiting the judgement on that. So any and all criticism is absolutely welcome! I noticed that the rythym guitar does seem to drown out the drums in this ReMix especially. In every other song i've done, it doesn't take so much precedence. But i'm still kinda working on adjusting levels to fix that problem.
  9. I messed around with the drum patterns and i really like the changes. Each section now has a new ending drum pattern. I also tweaked the synth strings to them stand out a little more. http://www.tindeck.com/listen/qmkj or http://rapidshare.com/files/217534487/NintenJoe_64_-_Final_Breath__FF4_FF2SNES_Boss_Battle_.mp3 Let me know if there's anything else i should do? Also, should i keep Final Breath as my original title for this song? Thanks
  10. That's the same philosophy that use for my metal and rock music, lol. But one day maybe i'll get some ideas.
  11. I like this too. It kinda reminds me of band called Apartment 26, especially they're Music For The Massive album. http://www.amazon.com/Music-Massive-Apartment-26/dp/B0001977KQ/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1238594327&sr=8-4
  12. Me too! I really like the update. I wish i could remixes in this style. I've tried, but i just don't get how to layer the instruments to get that techno/electronic sound to it! lol Guess i'll just stick with metal for now!
  13. Just a quick update. I noticed that during the fast drum parts that the lead was not at all very noticable and that the EQ was a little on the high end. http://tindeck.com/listen/vfpq or http://rapidshare.com/files/216109795/NintenJoe_64_-_Dungeon_Of_Despair__LOZ_NES_Dungeon_.mp3 I think this one sounds better.
  14. HAHA! Nice, i noticed the same thing, lol. Its very well done and all the instruments sound like the originals except enhanced. Which, obviously, by the name of the track is what you were going for!
  15. I agree with that. It sounds like that one of the notes in the chords is off and sounds wrong. But other than that, i love this ReMix! It sounds awesome! And kudos on the source too!
  16. Well, i finally got around to my FF4 boss battle remix! Bout time i suppose! I meant to get to it sooner, but i had to install vista x64 cause windows 7 x32 was being a pain in the arse. Anyways...I made A LOT of changes to the mix. For starters i shortened it up a lot from 3:53 down to 3:19 so it wasn't so repetitive. I also brought the leads and melodies up front a lot more so they stand out better. Also, i messed around with the drum track and cleaned that up as well. And i haven't added a bass track yet. Mostly cause i don't own a bass so when i put a bass track in my songs i use a vst. I hope these changes make the track a lot more enjoyable! http://tindeck.com/listen/mfml or http://rapidshare.com/files/216103812/NintenJoe_64_-_Final_Breath__FF4_IV_Boss_Battle_.mp3
  17. Nice, its very good so far. I think that after the 1:43 mark, like you were mentioning, maybe you could add a kinda a breakdown. And for the breakdown it could have maybe a little louder beat, with louder being some crash cymbals maybe? Then add some nice synth strings playing the chorus melody. I would suggest some choir vox, but i'm not sure how well that fit in with your songs theme. As you know, i'm more of a metal/rock guy. But i did write a few electronic/techno kinda songs when i didn't feel like playing guitar. http://rapidshare.com/files/216086074/NintenJoe_64_-_Descent.mp3 and http://rapidshare.com/files/216086396/NintenJoe_64_-_Power.mp3 And believe me, i'm not saying i'm good at writing this kinda music. Not at all, but once in a while i come up with a good concept. Also, i know the mixing might be a little off on those 2 songs, if you decide to listen to them. I did them a while a go and got them to a reasonable mixing level and just kinda let them be.
  18. I just wanna say that i can't get Liljedahl out of my head. That chorus keyboard riff is so damn catchy, lol. Seriously though, its an awesome track. So you just use your laptop for making music? I like that, cause besides playing guitar, i don't play any other instruments. So when i'm making a song, all the other instruments are done on my PC.
  19. wanted to wish you a happy b-day! noticed it on the bottom of the forums page!

  20. Your not too late at all. I didn't submit this one yet cause i submitted an RC Pro AM title screen ReMix that i did a while ago and don't want to bombard them with ReMixes. I doubt it'll pass cause i submitted in a month or so ago and i haven't had any luck yet getting my songs to pass. Mostly cause my mixing skills sucked, as you can tell with some of my early works. I'm getting better though and i probably should've posted that mix here first and see what ya'll thought of it. Oh well! EDIT: Also, i messed around with some EQ settings and such and have a better, clearer version of my LoZ mix. http://rapidshare.com/files/216109795/NintenJoe_64_-_Dungeon_Of_Despair__LOZ_NES_Dungeon_.mp3 I would keep posting them at sound lantern, but apparently their site is closing tomorrow....oh well...gotta find another streaming site now!
  21. This version sounds much better. I love the leads at about 2:25 now, they really jump out at you. And that piano lead sounds awesome too. Unfortunately, myspace music isn't always known for its streaming quality, so its kinda hard to tell how everything sounds together in high quality settings. But still man, this looks just about ready!
  22. I like this version a lot better. I like the scream in the beginning, it adds to the power of the song. The leads have nice power and substance behind them with the synths and rythym guitars. I think if you added some more screams throughout the song it might add a little more to it. Sometimes the drums sound overcompressed, but not its not too distracting. Its just something that the judges might comment on if you decide to submit this. Overall though, i love this ReMix. Its got an awesome, raw power to it that makes listening to it a joy.
  23. Yeah, i kinda realized all that after i finished the song. I am gonna go back make some big changes to it. Unfortunately right now, i can't get my damn gearbox program that i use to play guitar on the computer to work like its supposed to, i can't hear anything i'm playing. When i get it going again, i can fix the song!
  24. I agree that some warm strings would help support the song. I think in the part with the building snare drum that some hits, like strings or orchestra, would help that section out as well. Even adding a small flute or piano solo somewhere would help add some more dynamics to it.
  25. Yeah, it took me a good 5 or 6 months to really understand the principles of mixing and arrangement. And thank you for the compliment on my ReMix as well. I'm glad i'm finally to point in playing guitar that i can write songs like this one! lol I checked yours out, its a good start and not too shabby. I'll leave more feedback on your thread in a bit.
