  1. ya know, its hard coming up with ideas for remixes and/or original stuff. but i still try! :)

  2. Yeah, if your just gonna post a song just to post a song, don't do it in this forum. If you actually want feedback and criticism, this is the place to post your WIP. Apparently though, this isn't a WIP anymore, and never actually was when you posted it here. I have 3 posts here so far, but i've gathered all the feedback and applied it to my WIPs. I'm still waiting to hear back on the last mix i submitted before i can sumbit my Zelda WIP, which i'm still correcting here and there based on what people said or have said about it. Its good for you that you think your song is done and perfect, but with everyone telling you different maybe you should consider going back and maybe making some changes based on the feedback you've gotten so far and not take it so personally.
  3. Its funny, cause i was just thinking the same thing. I just finished a remix of the title screen theme from Megaman Battle Network 3 and was looking for something else to do. My typical style of remixing usually involves a lot of rock and almost metal influences with most of them sounding kinda upbeat. However i always like to incorporate orchestral strings, instruments, and choirs to really give it that epic sound. )
  4. Its been a good month or so since i did any sort of work on this mix, and i'm still waiting to hear back on my RC Pro AM ReMix i had submitted to OCR back in Feb. Still, i finally went back and addressed all sorts of issues, most of them volume and compression. I know that some mentioned the compression, with the drums especially, probably being too much. I let up on the compression a lot as well on the whole track. I think this made a huge difference in the overall sound of the track. I also added a couple more choir parts as well as a synth in the background of the intro, "verse", and the second half of the guitar solo. Overall though, i think a lot of the production problems have been addressed and i'm hoping thats finally OCR worthy. ) Check it out here: http://rapidshare.com/files/228851181/NintenJoe_64_-_Dungeon_Of_Despair2__LOZ_NES_Dungeon_.mp3 I apologize for having to use rapidshare, but i still get errors when trying to upload a track to tindeck. Whenever i get that figured out, i'll put up the tindeck link.
  5. i saw your post on the wip forum looking for a possible guitar solo, check out my megaman battle network 3 title remix: http://rapidshare.com/files/228085442/NintenJoe_64_-_3rd_Strike__Megaman_BN_3_Title_Screen_.mp3 or just check out the video i have on youtube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEiJVzg7Chc and let me know what ya think. :)

  6. This is pretty decent. Its a little too loud sometimes, but it seems thats what you were going for. As for adding a guitar lead, the time you mentioned is probably a very good spot for it. It seems as though you wanted to incorporate a lead there eventually anyways. As for guitarists, there are some on here, but i'm not really sure how keen they are on collabs most of the time. I play guitar and a little of the keys, and if you want i can send you some stuff i've done.
  7. Yeah, my current version is over 16mb so that wouldn't fly too far with them i think. So far, nothing is too repetitive with this mix. I'm try to keep it interesting throughout the whole piece.
  8. Ya know its funny, when reading this i was like "oh great, another midi file...what fun this is going to be...", but i gotta admit that this is pretty damn catchy. For not having any sort of musical knowledge at all its pretty decent. If you could learn where the notes actually are you could use a program like Mixcraft 4 that lets you use virtual instruments similar to the idea of those found in GP3. Its like playing a keyboard, but only clicking the notes in yourself. I think GP3 uses RSE instruments, which are just glorfied midi samples. I play guitar, and have been for almost 10 years now. Now, i don't have an amazing knowledge of music theory, but i know more than enough to get by. I know which notes to play in a scale and such. Anyways, what i'm getting at is that by playing just by ear, you've done pretty well. You probably spent, and still do spend, a lot of time playing RPGs. This also reminds me a lot of the battle music from Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, the sort of misfit of the Final Fantasy franchise. Anyways, if you really are looking for some help with this, i can try, but i'm not all too familiar with GP3 in terms of composing. Seeing as how this is a midi file, i can always use it as the basis for a new composition. I love midi files cause they have all the notes right there for ya!
  9. I've got a new update for my MMBN 3 ReMix. The big update here is the length, as its now 7:29 long. The obvious reason for this is epic quality. I added a lot of stuff to this including numerous lead parts, some piano stuff, a couple techno sounding instruments, and more involved "mid-section". I'm mostly doing this for my own amusement, but this project has produced one of my favorite ReMixes to date, and i'm not trying to find praise. I'm seriously interested in whether or not this could qualify for anything, mostly OCR. The length would probably deter most the judges, but still, it would be nice. http://rapidshare.com/files/228085442/NintenJoe_64_-_3rd_Strike__Megaman_BN_3_Title_Screen_.mp3
  10. Ahh!!! It says video has been removed by user!! I could assume that the post you just made on that commented on already is the same video/song? I hope so.
  11. I gotta say man, i do video game remixes myself, but nothing on this scale. Its hard for me to take what i've got visualized in my head and really lay it down. I've gotten leagues better at it since i started recording my own stuff back in jan 08. I did a zelda remix of the labyrinth theme mainly from the first zelda game. It took me months, as it was basically my first song recorded by myself, to really get the hang of mixing and production qualities. I am currently working on a Mega Man Battle Network 3 title screen ReMix and i've spent a good week, a couple hours a day or so, working on fine tuning all the notes, chords, solos, etc. to get it to sound just right. Both parts 1 and 2 from your Zelda remix are awesome. Spefically to this post, as you would probably want feedback on this post would be that the production is spot on, everything is very clear and noticable and nothing overpowers any one other thing. I follows part 1 up beatifully and jumps right in to the labyrinth theme. I like the what sounds like some sort of bell and or organ maybe? It really adds to the guitars nicely. The guitar tone is really good for this source. Its the same sound i was going for in my mix. All in all, this is shaping up to be a very nice musically themed trip through Zelda.
  12. I actually just about finished a MMBN3 remix, but its for the title screen. If you want you can check it out at: http://rapidshare.com/files/228085442/NintenJoe_64_-_3rd_Strike__Megaman_BN_3_Title_Screen_.mp3 and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEiJVzg7Chc The youtube link has a nifty video with the song also. Again, its not the ending theme, but i think ya might like it? If you check out it, let me know what ya think?
  13. Sounds awesome, can't wait to hear the next update!
  14. Yeah, i agree with Rozo on this one. Its a nice melody driven track. I think the leads stand out mostly pretty well on their own. The drums could use a little more power in some sections. I think then ending is alright, but when making remixes of video game tracks it can be hard to come up with an original ending to something written by someone else. Still though, the quick lead riff isn't too bad. Sometimes changing up the drum beat while still keeping the instruments flowing at a steady speed can solve that. As for the production, it really isn't that bad. I think some EQ seperation, as Rozo mentioned, could do some good in this mix.
  15. I kinda like the direction this is going, but like everyone else it could use some major cleaning up and maybe a breakdown in there in the middle. I think one thing that could really make this song better is that the second time where its really the source playing out by itself maybe you could replace the "chippy" instruments with the metal instruments you have in the mix. For example, the lead sort of bass sounded synth could be a bass guitar and actual lead synth could be chords on the electric guitar. For the drum beat it could be a one-two beat to go along with the bass and guitar. Also, like i mentioned earlier, a breakdown followed by some sort of solo, whether it be a guitar or a synth might sound really cool as well. I do metal/rock themed remixes a lot, in fact all of my remixes are themed that way so i know what your trying to achieve but haven't quite gotten the mix there yet. Even letting the "metal" part play out a bit longer and maybe switch up the drum beat to break repetitiveness wouldn't hurt either. Check out my Megaman Battle Network 3 title remix http://www.ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=23054 . To kinda see what i'm talking about. Or download it here http://rapidshare.com/files/226086593/NintenJoe_64_-_3rd_Strike__Megaman_BN_3_Title_Screen_3rd.mp3 . Lastly, i should mention that i actually play my guitar. Not that i'm puttin down electric guitar VST, but its just my thing.
  16. I had no prob downloading it...oh well. I like this, but i'll admit i'm not terribly familiar with the source. I did check out the source vid on youtube to learn. I like this, its very ambient yet moving. The only thing i noticed is that the bass boosts towards the very end sound like they might be too overpowering. But to be fair, my speakers suck, even though i have subwoofer. So might just be a thing on my end. Otherwise, it sounds very good. Everything is presented in a finely produced fashion and is easy on the ears. Plus, you've heard of a lot of my stuff so i thought i'd return the favor. EDIT: n/m, it is my damn speakers!! lol
  17. Ok, so here's my 3rd update for this mix. I added a lot to it. You'll probably notice thats now 5:14 long instead of 4:31 now. I did this to add more dimension in the middle of the track. Mostly a couple synth solos, and i might still add an actual guitar solo here and there somewhere else in the song, besides the couple that are already there. I changed the full orchestra track to just strings and integrated them a lot more into the mix. Also i fine tuned the choir/chorus and added a couple more choir parts throughout the song. The most note-worthy change is the first chorus. I changed it up a bit so it wasn't so repetitive. I added a synth harmony and choir to it as well. I'm still not really sure if the bass drum is too overpowering. I think i got it just right, but my speakers (even with a subwoofer) are years old and need to be replaced. Still i think its just right though. Let me know what ya think of it now? And as always i really appreciate any and all feedback you guys leave me! I'm still using rapidshare cause damn tindeck keeps giving me "Somethings gone terribly wrong!" 404 errors...damn it....oh well http://rapidshare.com/files/226086593/NintenJoe_64_-_3rd_Strike__Megaman_BN_3_Title_Screen_3rd.mp3
  18. Hmmm.... Do i DARE post a comment on this?!?!? Anyways, i think it sounds OK, but like everyone else mentioned, there's just not enough force behind this. All the instruments just sound like they are there, but not jumping out at you. Its funny, cause this mix makes me think your trying to make an old school ring tone of the source...haha...anyways... However, it seems you are satisfied with the way sounds now. So more power too you...
  19. I like where this is going so far. I'm not sure how you feel about this, but a breakdown towards where it just "ends" could use maybe a guitar. I'm thinking just 4 chord progression based on whatever song the key is in. The vocals are pretty good and match the tone your going for in the song. All in all, its very promising.
  20. This is really good! I think the only issue i have with this is that most of the time it seems the bass drum hits too hard and distorts the song a bit. Other than that, its very good!
  21. Actually, ya know that wouldn't be such a bad idea. I'll have to mess around with that and see if i can that to work. If not i'll change the EQ so you can hear both solos a little better. And i'm glad all the parts sounded good so far.
  22. First off, thanks for that and the compliments, lol! I was thinking that the intro (before the chorus part) could use a solo or 2. It would add a little more epic-ness ot it. I hope... Also, during the 3:12 part, i tried balancing the parts out equally and got it mostly sounding good. But i think i'm gonna switch it around slightly still but not too much. Does the last chorus sound ok, quality wise? Cause there's a lot going on there to and I wasn't sure if it too clear or not. Other than that, i think i might change the EQ on the drums just a bit to more power to the bass drum.
  23. I took your advice and tried to make it more of a concert sound instead of a studio sound. I also fixed the drums 3/4 the way through like you noted. As for the hi-hats, you'll have to deal with it! Nah, j/k, if i feel like sometime soon i'll change those around. Anyways, a made of sound changes/fixes to this mixdown and i really like where its headed now. For the time being, i can only upload to rapidshare. I'll fix that ASAP. http://rapidshare.com/files/224416471/NintenJoe_64_-_3rd_Strike__Megaman_BN_3_Title_Screen_.mp3
  24. Ok, i know i've got the other 2 mixes (Zelda NES labyrinth, and FF4 battle), but on my youtube page someone requested this remix. I've only really had a few requests, so i like to make sure i try to get to them all. This one was a bit of a challenge only for the second part of the source ( ) which begins around :19 or so. In my ReMix, i put a lot of emphasis on the first part of the source cause that part i knew it already. The second part of the source took me a while to learn some of the notes and i still don't really know how to play the lead. http://tindeck.com/listen/djhy I called it 3rd Strike to go along with the MMBN 3 name. Also, i'm not really sure how well the middle meshes with the rest of the song, or at least the parts around that section. You'll see what i mean. I did try to make it sound good. Please let me know what ya think?
  25. I gotta say, this is awesome. I always kinda chicken out when it comes to remixing the big themes everyone knows. I haven't really messed around with this theme too much, but being a guitar player i do know how to play the theme. I'll have to sit down and play around with the theme and see if i can't help you out with part 2. I think part 1 sounds exquisite so far!
