  1. I agree with DJ P. A multiple machine setup is quite a hassle and really only worth doing if it's absolutely necessary. If you organize your projects properly, you really shouldn't need more than a powerful modern computer with lots of RAM. My quad i5 iMac with 16gb of RAM still serves me well with everything that I throw at it including decent sized orchestral projects. I use mostly Vienna stuff with that sort of thing and their software does a great job of handling memory.
  2. Here are my 5 choices: 1: Castlevania Bloodlines - Stage 4 [Genesis] Music 2: Castlevania Legends OST - Track 05 - Banquet Of Spirits 3: Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge Music (Game Boy) - Psycho Warrior (Rock Castle) 4: Castlevania Bloodlines - Stage 2 [Genesis] Music 5: Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow OST - 03 Pitch Black Intrusion
  3. We all have our favorite DAWs and plugins but what about the little guys? I'm talking about helper apps that serve specific functions that you use in your quest for making music. One of my favorites is called Music Math. "musicMath is a musical tool that includes a timecode calculator, a tap tempo, a tempo to delay in millisecond and hertz converter, a note to frequency table converter, a sample length converter, a tempo change converter, and a frequency to note converter." Sadly for some of you, it's only for OSX and iOS but it's definitely one worthy of your money: http://laurentcolson.com/index.html Anyone else have apps that they use for reference, etc?
  4. Yay! Thanks OA! You are rock! I've been wanting to read these! They're actually written by a friend of mine. I'll have to think hard about how I want to use that coupon too!
  5. Iris 2 doesn't seem very CPU intensive to me but I have plenty of CPU to spare on my quad i5 iMac. I definitely want to pick up Omnisphere at some point but there are other places I need to put my money first. As far as hardware goes, building simple projects can be quite cheep depending on what tools you own already. Synthrotek has some great little projects and it's also a good way to learn more about electronics.
  6. Iris really is great for manipulating recorded audio. You really can get some crazy sounds out of it quite quickly. Otherwise, I suggest starting to build your own library of field recordings. Doing this sort of thing will give you access to unique sounds that others might not have. Another avenue to explore is to build some basic analog synth circuits and sample them. Start off by building an Atari Punk Console or any other simple project.
  7. I'll keep an eye out for it at my local stores. I've seen it several times now. I'll pick one up if I see it.
  8. Now that I'm back home from Disney World, I should be getting my package out in the mail soon...as long as this cold of mine doesn't overwhelm me. *** Ended up having it shipped straight from my friends store. Who knows if I'll make it out of the house in the next few days. Sadly, I feel rather nasty right now.
  9. I second this. It wasn't until I took some online classes from Berklee that got a clue on how to really use my orchestral libraries. Getting to understand what all those articulations are for is a big part of the battle.
  10. I just made a new soundpack available on my website called Synth Drum Hits. It contains a number of samples from various synths that I own: Casio HT700, Casio VL-1, Moog Little Phatty, Arturia Minibrute, and a Commodore 64 (SID). It's only $10 for 88 single drum hits in WAV files that are mapped in instruments for Kong (Reason) and Battery 4. Please check it out! http://www.pureshift.com/synth-drum-hits/
  11. I use Logix X Pro after switching over from Reaper. Whiley I do like Reaper (which is cross platform), Logic had some work flow things that makes it work really well for me. The biggest thing is the built in notation system which I find a must have for when I work on orchestral stuff. I worked with notation before I ever say a piano roll. It just jives with me more in the way that I work. As far as samples go, I generally stick with Vienna Symphonic. I have Special Edition vol 1 and a couple other smaller libraries from them. Vienna also has a great sample player that is highly geared towards programming and performing virtual instruments like these. The basic orchestral libraries that come with Logic are fairly average but they can be useable. I use them if I'm composing with just my laptop but I always use Vienna with my desktop. I'm also a pretty big Reason user but I mostly use that for electronic stuff. While there are a few orchestral libraries for it, most of them are old and very basic. They're usable but can be difficult to work with.
  12. I use an ART dual usb pre with the camera adapter on my iPad mini. What's nice is that the ART unit can be battery powered.
  13. I started with with Devil Survivor and got hooked. I'm now playing Soul Hackers after picking it up on 3ds for $10 in the eShop. I definitely enjoy what I've experience so far.
  14. Yep. The Volca series has a ton of stuff or the price. Other analog stuff I'd recommend in that price range is the Arturia Minibrute/Microbrute, Moog Minitaur, and the Korg MS-20 mini. What's nice about those three is that you have no menu diving. Everything you get is on the control panel. All three can also be controlled via MIDI or USB.
  15. If you want to get into analog stuff and have a good variety to work with, I would look at the Korg Volca series. They're portable, they sound good, and you can easily hook up a MIDI controller to them if you want. I have the Volca Beats and it's a great drum machine.
  16. You can get the new music on Bandcam: https://virt.bandcamp.com/album/shovel-knight-plague-of-shadows-ost The Plague Knight story is more difficult but I'm starting to get the hang of jumping and such. I really like that it's a completely different style of play compared to working with Shovel Knight. The amount of new content is staggering!
  17. I guess I never posted here to get myself added to the list, I'm theshaggyfreak on Wii U as usual. Right now I really only have Smash Bros. and Mario Kart. Speaking of Mario Kart 8, you can get it refurbished from Nintendo's website for $30.
  18. A bunch of pics from the show are here https://picasaweb.google.com/116294723695410258054/MAGfestClassic2015?authuser=0&feat=directlink
  19. I have some stuff that I need to get rid of that's really not worth selling. Karaoke Revolution 1-3 and American Idol for PS2. DVD copy of National Treasure (got it for free and I really don't want it) Find me this weekend and ask me about any of the above. If it's still in my possession, you can have it.
  20. I'll definitely check it out and get some pictures of ya!
  21. I think they're setting up overflow rooms in he hotel across the street.
