  1. Oh yeah! Finally... since we've played before and it's been close, down for best 3 of 5 matches with best 3 of 5 rounds per match? I'm out of practice since I've been finishing off Phantasy Star IV...
  2. Not a huge KH fan, but when they got into Secret of Mana, I smiled. Awesome stuff!
  3. I really wish they would have updated Reaktor, but other than that, looks groovy. I'd personally like to see NI explore physical models of acoustic instruments more, since they've been doing an ace job with almost everything else...

  5. I'll throw my two cents in - love the track, would love to post it... it's got a LOT of ideas in it. I rated it a tie with the first and second place mixes. If I was the sole judge and had to pick between the three, I might still pick one of the others, simply because I think there may actually be too many ideas in this piece... it seems like it's trying a little too hard to be the "definitive" Reset Generation mix by covering a LOT of territory. It does it all well, and really does avoid medleyitis, but Rayza and Tepid's pieces nevertheless feel a bit more focused; at times, this track does end up sounding like it's explicitly trying to win a competition. Again, take that with a hugeass grain of salt - if anything, I'm saying you've got 2 or 3 good mixes here, and they just happen to be cohabiting the same body.
  6. We've been doing a lot better with the chronological posting than in past years, but exceptions still occur once in awhile for the reasons Andy listed.
  7. I'm guessing because of the super-high frequency violin, since my Yoshi's Island mix gave me a name for doing high stuff (though I don't think I've repeated that much, really)... It's a real interesting idea, and I can identify the Corneria chord progression pretty easily, but Corneria does also have a melody, and I'm not hearing that at all. I agree with the comment that the mix seems like it's building towards something... I think busting into the main melody on an ethnic lead of some kind, maybe tempo-delayed to fill things out, and having the drums fill out at the same moment, would steer this towards being more of a complete piece, as opposed to an idea/accompaniment. In other words, you've got a foundation with some promise, but it's time for a lead instrument, some melody, and some direction.

  10. Alright, I'm game... listened to the source again, twice, listened to the mix twice. What I love about the track is that it not only maintains but enhances the feel of the original in terms of atmosphere. Honestly, as far as source goes, you've basically got a chord progression on a pattern here, and not much else. Yeah, the artist extrapolated a bit, especially in the last minute, but when talking about how the piece develops, whether there's development, etc., I think the source does need to be considered, because it really doesn't develop much itself. Compared to the source, this introduces a simple melodic line that takes over in the last minute to create something that, on the contrary, does end up in a different place from where it started. The dissonance being referred to is most noticeable with the brass cluster at 3'38" - but it comes back down. It resolves before the end of the bar... I'm no theory expert, but I do feel like I've heard this done countless times in film scores. Generally speaking, it'd be reiterated somewhere else in a piece, to let listeners KNOW it was intentional and to make us all more, uh... tonically comfortable? At any rate, rather than question why individual elements are there, whether they add anything, etc. I'll agree that the conclusion gets a bit cluttered, AND that stronger percussion would have helped... these Lunarians have a somewhat anemic rhythm section - in the words of Leeloo, I wanted Big Badda Boom, and I did not get it. I think rejecting this mix based on development or being too liberal is essentially cutting arrangers off at the feet for source material like this, which requires more patience and extrapolation to work with. So, clean bill of health on arrangement for me. That leaves production and instrumentation. There are definitely issues, and they've all been pointed out. Some are more subjective than others, but I don't think anyone's standing up and shouting "I Am Spartacus" for the drum samples. Nevertheless, nothing here is problematic enough for me to reject, and the first two minutes have some really atmospheric textures that do seem intangibly "lunar". I don't think anyone should be too upset about me saying... YES
  11. I actually ENJOYED Cybermorph for the Atari Jaguar. Which I bought. When it came out. For the full price.
  12. Well, you do only *seem* male in the Youtube video, but there's also the fact that I've been referring to you as a "he" this whole time without any objections, as have other people that hung out with you at meetups, etc. It's not great, but it is something. I don't see the point of removing the field unless you also insist that I go back and modify all mix writeups to remove any revealing pronouns, etc., as we essentially become our own "reference" otherwise. All that being said, if you want me to do all that, and you intend to keep all other publicly available resources similarly devoid of this information, yes... I'll do it. I'll just add that, as something approximating a friend, or at least someone who admires your music and contributions to the community, I personally would prefer you not request this change. That was Larry. He does that when he thinks someone title is important for other forumgoers to be aware of. If you PM him, he can easily remove of modify it - I'm sure he thought he was doing you a favor. It's not editable because it's "special" i.e. not everyone has it.
  13. As a random sidenote, Veronica's mom Peggy worked at Fairfax County Government, where I used to work and where my own mom still works, in the Department of Information Technology. Small world, eh? Also, it's Van Lowe. Congrats to them both, though I do wish Mr. Dan would show his face more 'round these parts, for he is missed!
