  1. Apologies for being so AWOL, everyone; Thursday and Friday I was working, Friday night I stayed up until 4AM to go live with the RD project (which still doesn't have all the files right... grrrrrrrrrrr!), and after that late-nighter I'm afraid I wasn't up for Saturday night the way I should have been. Thus I was rather an ephemeral presence, showing up for our panel (duh), part of Jamspace (Ty, Sam, & Shael - awesome), and foodstuffs at TGIF and Popeye's. I didn't catch a single concert. Suckage. No offense to Brad, but I think if anyone asks to debut an album project during MAG in the future, I'm just gonna suggest they wait until afterwards, or do so before New Year's, so that I can better prepare for (and attend) the event. Even though we did limited prep, I felt like the panel went very well. We had a lot more ff7 videos to show and there's stuff we didn't cover... part of what I liked about M5 was that a smaller group of hardcore OCR peeps sorta did an impromptu round-table discussion about the site, which I missed not having this year. I'd like to do something informal like that next year, maybe as part of a panel (although I'd prefer a roundtable like before) or maybe just something informal, but a chance to get feedback in person (NOT about the sidebar, dammit!) from interested mixers and visitors would be really slick. Spittin' Narcissism Flash FTW. If anyone has specific suggestions about how OCR can contribute to MAG, what to change, etc., let's hear 'em. Also, mad props to Brendan & MAG staff for doing an awesome job.
  2. What did you think? Post your opinion of this ReMix.
  3. Did you PM CHIPP? He's our official staff translator and may be able to assist... it'd be good to contact the writer asking for permission to host a translation here on OCR, as I imagine this might be something that comes up more often as we try to branch out to non-English mixers, etc....
  4. The following staff translators recently completed translations of several major OCR documents into different languages: French - PriZm (Pascal Jetté) Japanese - CHIPP Damage (Jahan Zoltan Honma) Spanish - Sir_NutS (Michael Molina) Before we announce these translations and alert appropriate foreign-language sites to their existence, we'd like feedback from those fluent in the language(s) with regards to the accuracy/clarity of the translated versions. We're not looking for nitpicky/subjective critiques - translation is almost always a tricky enough task that there are numerous ways of approaching that all have their relative merits. We're specifically looking for feedback/corrections that would: Correct significant inaccuracies Significantly improve clarity Utilize more commonly accepted terms ... all relative to the official versions of the documents in question, which are in English. Personally, I'm really excited about this... already we've sent the policy and submission standards to Ryo Lion, who indicated essentially that they made a lot more sense than the automated translation software he was using. Here are links to the official documents and their corresponding translations: Content Policy (http://www.ocremix.org/info/Content_Policy) French Japanese [*]Mission (http://www.ocremix.org/info/Mission) French Japanese Spanish [*]Submission Standards and Instructions (http://www.ocremix.org/info/Submission_Standards_and_Instructions) Japanese Spanish We're still working on a Spanish translation of the Content Policy and a French translation of the Submission Standards, but the work done so far represents a significant time investment from our three translators (awesome job, guys) and myself, and I'm proud of the progress we've made on this task. Please avoid personal criticism and favor constructive criticism - each of our three translators spent a lot of time on this work, and in some cases it's already been reviewed by others. Nevertheless, your suggestions & corrections are definitely appreciated! Thanks, David Lloyd
  5. For the record, were I in Massachusetts, I would have voted for the real Hip Tanaka. Also: Chicken Mob for President. That is all.
  6. We'll be changing the emu section one way or another... many emus support multiple systems, so the icons may not be doable without looking sorta goofy...
  7. Apples to Oranges, really - I'd much rather play RTS and FPS games on a PC, largely I suppose due to keyboard/mouse combo control scheme that, while available for consoles, takes up a lot of space, etc. I go for convenience, more often than not - if I have to set up a keyboard/mouse for UT3 on my PS3, I'm less likely to play it, whereas if they're already out for my PC (which they obviously would be)... you get the picture. Also, any game that requires micromanagement and strategy in general - Civilization, for instance - I think works better on an LCD, at higher resolutions. Can you hook your XB360 up to an LCD via HDMI, then add a keyboard and mouse, and would it then be just as good? Maybe... but I'd much rather have my 360 hooked up to a 56" 1080p widescreen, personally. We're talking about how PCs aren't as good as consoles at games, but the reverse of this is that consoles are no where near as good as PCs for other stuff... again, imo, but I find browsing the web on all of these devices to be painful. Nevertheless, the line keeps blurring. DX10, for all the criticisms it (rightfully) receives, is at least an effort to create a baseline of some sort in terms of shader, etc. support, in the (perhaps vain) hopes of making the PC gaming experience more predictable, and perhaps ultimately, more affordable. I honestly CAN envision a day when dedicated gaming consoles are a thing of the past, and computers take over the reigns. To me, it makes logical and fiscal sense, and COULD be a good thing. But that won't happen until it's ready to happen, and until then, certain types of games will fair better on consoles, others (I'd say fewer, for the record) will be more appropriate for PCs, and that's that. In the PCs favor, even though it's a legal gray area, I still vastly prefer console emulation on PCs. Virtual Console is neat and all, and I love seeing people excited about older games, but really... if VC involved a license to the ROM itself, THAT'D be revolutionary, and awesome. Tying those games to a console that can't output above 480p (and yes, it DOES make a difference - you should see Mario 64 under Project 64 at 1080p sometime) and doesn't have myriad other features standard in most emulators is to me a non-starter. Glad I have both, basically
  8. Awesome mix, awesome mixer. Happy birthday
  9. http://www.spywaredb.com/remove-backdoor-graybird/ Manual removal, or else you'll need a different tool, as Symantec doesn't seem to handle it... Also, move to tech help forum.
  10. Buying gifts for your family or friends this holiday season? Sending out xmas lists of stuff you yourself want? You can help OC ReMix, at no cost to yourself, by shopping through our affiliates. If you buy items using the links below, OCR gets as much as a 6% commission per sale, which goes directly towards site operational and promotional costs. Note that you do need to specifically use the exact links, as that's how the affiliates know you're coming OCR, but you can also share these links with others who might be doing a little holiday shopping of their own. We're looking forward to doing some ambitious, awesome stuff in 2008, plus the affiliates we endorse are safe, professional, and have competitive prices, so it's a win-win for everyone. You can actually use these links any time of year to purchase great stuff at great prices and help OCR out in the process, so if you've already done your holiday shopping, please consider using one of the above affiliate links next time.
  11. We intentionally got rid of sorting on JUST the title (sans game) - officially game is part of the title, and we couldn't think of many situations where sorting by just the mix title part would be beneficial. We do need to be a little careful about what we allow sorting by - every additional sort parameter equals a performance load. None of the judges saw too much value... quick search seems much more useful for finding a mix by its mix title alone... can anyone articulate compelling usefulness for this? I'd rather keep it on ice... By the way "By" and "Of" are now "by" and "of"
  12. Happy birthday! Thanks for continuing to provide valuable site feedback, it really helps.
