  1. Larry's retiring Caramella and going as a Cheetahman this Halloween... the oft-overlooked fourth token black Cheetahman, at that.
  2. At first I thought Robert was right, but now I see Shariq's point. Boolean negation does get a little tricky, BUT I don't think too many will misunderstand, especially if/when they get a form rejection letter. Honestly, these three issues are things that almost anyone should be able to process and understand, so if there are problems doing so, they'd probably extend outside the realm of us being able to address them with wordsmithing
  3. I've taught myself to play leads; truly playing piano, as a musician, in my mind requires the ability to play a supporting part on one's left hand and a melody on one's right. I really can't do that too well at all, so I instead refer to myself as "keyboard player" instead of a "piano player" I agree that a keyboard of at least 41, preferably 61 keys is the best way to get started. As an aside, I step enter / mouse enter NOTHING, and play everything "live" into the sequencer - even rudimentary kick drum parts, which I then duplicate. It's a workflow thing - everybody's different, but I find it faster to play everything in, plus that way I get to monitor what it sounds like at the same time.
  4. This is a known bug and limitation with Windows as opposed to Winamp; there's a limit to how many extensions can be filtered for in the file open dialog, and when Winamp is associated with more extensions than that limit, it stops showing them and you have to pick just one. AFAIK, the only way to work around this would be for Winamp developers to design their own file open dialog rather than using the native OS dialog, which imo they really should have done by now, given Winamp's popularity with input plugin developers and hence likeliness of being associated with numerous file types. FYI, I use Winamp, and just upgraded to 5.5 on my main machine for testing with Chipamp. It's a little slow to launch, even with the Agent, but my biggest beef by bar is its closed source status and affiliation with AOL...
  5. Correct, that's not allowed. For future competitions, or just for fun, that's something that could certainly yield interesting results, but for this particular competition, it would widen the scope too much, in my opinion.
  6. We'd prefer not to get into the business of discussing what will or won't be in; we're managing that as best we can, it's not a question of ego or personal preference, it's a question of what Capcom thinks works best for the game. Andy (and other site staff and mixers), if you could please refrain from answering questions or making guesses about which tracks are or aren't in, or other aspects of the involvement that are still far from concrete, I think that'd be best. We'll know when we know, and while those closest to the project might know a little bit more, a little bit sooner, the bottom line is that what's important is OCR's involvement as a community, not which tracks/artists were involved specifically. Guaranteeing that is first and foremost.
  7. Ride Racer 7 worse than GTA4 on the PS2, visually? What type of TV are you using? On a 50" HDTV, RR7 looks pretty sweet to me, and definitely better than any PS2 game I've played... not artwork/modeling/design, mind you, but in terms of resolution and detail, hands down...
  8. Please don't contact Capcom regarding this; their usage on the blog is legitimate, if a little premature. While nothing is official yet, we HAVE been talking with them, and there's a possibility that OC ReMix will be involved with the SSF2HD project. Again, at this moment in time, nothing is signed or 100% certain. Hopefully that will change in the following weeks. At this moment, we're coordinating things and I'm the single point of contact with Capcom, with Shael and Malcos remaining informed every step of the way. We planned to fully inform involved mixers of the potential once we had something more definite in terms of contracts, but the cat's at least partially out of the bag now. Again, nothing is definite yet, and we really don't want to risk anything that would jeopardize the potential for OCR to be involved. So: - Please don't contact Capcom; my contact there, who is the decision maker, will simply refer you to me. - Please don't treat this news as anything other than a possibility; nothing is signed, sealed, or delivered at this moment. - Please don't contact me, Shael, or Malcos about participating in the project; most tracks are accounted for and we're already handling those that aren't. Obviously, this is a huge opportunity for the fan mixing community to participate in what looks to be a badass game, but at this point in time, we don't want to do anything that would jeopardize that opportunity.
  9. Submission Standards Revision After discussion and implementation of feedback from the community, OverClocked ReMix today released revised submission standards, available at: http://www.ocremix.org/info/Submission_Standards_and_Instructions This revision doesn't significantly change the content of the previous standards, but instead revises them for clarity and conciseness. We intend to translate these standards into other languages, so this was an important step to complete first, but even without the translation, it is important that this document - which is at the heart of what OCR is all about - is as clear and direct as possible. Updated & Improved Drop-Down Menus OCR's drop-down DHTML navigation was updated to a more recent version, and icons were added to assist in differentiating the numerous options available. In addition, menu items were reorganized to more logically present the variety of data available on the site, while allowing for future expansion. Quick Search Functionality Improved The "quick search" functionality residing on the left sidebar throughout www.ocremix.org has been modified. Previously, searches for composer, game, remix, and remixer brought back a list of remixes that met each criteria. Now, if you perform a quick search on composers, you'll get a list of composers that match your criteria, for games a list of games, remixes will provide the traditional list of mixes, etc. - the results are specific to the type of search issued. Also, searching for composer searches both the composer name field and the known aliases field, and searching for remixer searches a remixer's pseudonym and their real name as well, when it is available. All three of these improvements took a good deal of time and energy; more will follow.
  10. Right now we've got French and Japanese translations underway, and our next priorities are German and Spanish, BUT, a Dutch version wouldn't hurt. If you PM me I can tell you the specific, but be warned that the Content Policy in particular may be difficult and time-consuming to translate... we'd definitely appreciate the help, though!
  11. We could probably continue revising & refining these standards for the rest of our natural lives, but at this juncture we've decided to finalize them, and they're now live & in place. We incorporated as much feedback as we could without sacrificing the core of the document, and we thank everyone for their detailed feedback. I think this version is lightyears beyond its predecessor, and since the standards dictate what a ReMix is (and isn't), I consider this a big step forward for the site. http://www.ocremix.org/info/Submission_Standards_and_Instructions
  12. I've got a support ticket in with milonic, should be fixed in the next couple days.
  13. Thanks; spent quite a bit of time this weekend upgrading the menu code and adding icons. You can also now access some systems directly, browsing is grouped by object type, and the about section has extra links, incl. multilingual content.
  14. I'll tell you what's rich: tempban for a week. THAT'S rich. And creamy, too. Off-topic trolling and insulting site staff. Honestly, if you're going to hold a grudge, don't do it in a way that's so readily addressable. I have now... it's not an awful idea, but it creates a relationship between the advertiser and the ReMix/ReMixer that I'm not sure I'm cool with; I suppose as long as the ads in question were videogame-related, it COULD work. Anything like this, that's more involved, is potentially something to consider down the road - for now, in order to focus on other site development features that people will actually like, I really just wanted to quickly reinstate some basic google ads. Beyond that, we'll see, but I like the ideas people have been coming up with and am documenting them for future reference.
  15. Can we get a music video submission with an all-FF7 melee? No? Something else? Cool stuff.
  16. Cool, thanks for the feedback and support, everyone. Initially I'm just going to reinstate the footer ad and login-dependent sub-first post ad, but I'll definitely be looking into some of the other suggestions that have been made. I'm not sure whether we'll get enough fundage in by the end of the year to do any posters or bumper stickers or what not, but if not, '08 for SURE. I want one for myself, dammit.
  17. OMG WUT ABOUT SKULLOMANIA?!! I tend to agree that speed and collision detection, and their relationship, get all funked up in 3D. However, if there's a company to change this, and a title to change it with, it's Capcom and SF4. I'm happy either way, but some small part of me would have been happier with... Street Fighter Alpha 4. Maybe they'll do SFA3 in HD next, depending on how SSF2 goes...
  18. CHIPP Damage is the Official OCR Staff Japanese Translator; women swoon and artists everywhere rush to collab.
  19. Should be fixed now. We extended the main site tabs into the wiki to integrate it more, and are now calling it "about" instead of the less common "info". MediaWiki aggressively caches things, so the screwups might take awhile to purge.
  20. I'm strongly considering Dhsu's point; if we can do it succinctly, I think it makes sense. It CAN be inferred from existing points, as Larry says, but spelling it out has value. Dhsu, as one of 58 users using the default vB skin on these forums, you may wanna chime in on the google ads thread; I'm sure you'll have something to say UPDATED WITH FOLLOW ADDITIONS: Bitrate should be high enough to convey detail; a 96Kbps average is suggested as a minimum. Audio should be 44.1khz Stereo. Submissions should be long enough to convey arrangement; generally, this requires at least two minutes of material.
