  1. If questions are asked elsewhere that are pertinent to everyone participating, I'll try to update this thread as well. For example: Yes, but we'd like videos to be at least two minutes, and only include one song from VotL (no medleys)... that being said, if you want to use one of the songs that runs a little long and cut it (tastefully, as you say) earlier, that's acceptable.
  2. FYI, here's the corresponding announcement over at AMV: http://www.animemusicvideos.org/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=83734
  3. OC ReMix Announces Final Fantasy VII: Voices of the Lifestream Music Video Competition For Immediate Release October 4, 2007 Contact: David W. Lloyd, dlloyd@ocremix.org FAIRFAX, VA--OverClocked ReMix today announced a music video competition related to the recently released Final Fantasy VII: Voices of the Lifestream project (http://ff7.ocremix.org). Submitting Include the name you want the video(s) credited to, your contact information (website, email), the name of your video(s), all sources (anime, games, movies, etc.) utilized in your video(s), and any additional information you feel is relevant with your submission, whether via email or physical mail. Email (preferred): Send an email titled "FF7 Music Video Competition Entry" with a link to your video(s) to submissions@ocremix.org. Do NOT attempt to attach the video itself, or any form of preview. Make sure that the link still functions on Dec. 14th and for as many days after as possible if you submit before the deadline. Physical Mail: Send a CD-R or DVD-R only (no tapes!) to: OverClocked ReMix PO Box 223104 Chantilly, VA 20153 Postmarked on or before the Dec. 14th deadline. All physical materials submitted to OverClocked ReMix become the property of OverClocked ReMix and will not be returned. Updates Updated information and answers to questions regarding this competition will be available on an announcement thread at OverClocked ReMix (http://www.ocremix.org) - please check it often as prizes may be added or rules clarified. Winners will be announced before the end of the year, with the specific date dependent on the number of submissions received. Good luck!
  4. I for one am glad he still visits OC ReMix. (inside joke) Happy bday, thanks for ocrmirror.org!
  5. Thanks - a bunch of development work that Larry assisted with on data entry. We still need to associate official discussion threads, too. Actually, this is just the beginning... the logical next step is to highlight album participation on ReMixer profiles and albums on game detail pages as well. Potentially composer pages, too, depending on how much sense that makes...
  6. OC ReMix Albums on Last.fm, FF7:VotL Updates For Immediate Release October 2, 2007 Contact: David W. The albums are listed at http://www.ocremix.org/albums/, with credits and links to their official homepages, BitTorrent downloads, and Last.fm pages. The most recent album, Final Fantasy VII: Voices of the Lifestream, was recently reviewed by SquareSound, one of the largest websites devoted to Square Enix music on the internet, at http://www.squaresound.com/reviews/ronin/ff7vol.php. Since its debut on September 14th, Voices of the Lifestream has been downloaded an estimated 70,000 times via both a BitTorrent distribution and MP3s available at the official album website, http://ff7.ocremix.org. Limited physical copies of the album made for promotional usage will be given away at the upcoming Anime USA (http://www.animeusa.org/) and MAGFest (http://magfest.org/) conventions and through online competitions that will be announced shortly. 7. Do you mean the download links were working before and now they do not, or do you mean they were never showing up for you? Can you elaborate more on the issue?
  8. Very interesting. This is one of the classic modern vg themes out there, so it'd be great to hear the MGS composer speak out. It could be plagiarism, it could be coincidence, or it could be something in between - say he heard it once when he was four or five years old, never again, and much later in life reinvented it from vague memories that he could have mistaken for dreams, etc.
  9. Well, we're trying to go to larger cons AND smaller-midsize cons as well - as long as we don't LOSE money, spreading the good word and refining our panel and getting to meet fans and mixers etc. is always worthwhile, even with 12 people at our panel. Hampton Roads is a bit out of the way; Larry and I are in Northern Virginia, but that's quite a trek. Carlson from Mad-Gear has been gracious enough to haul us around once, so there's a chance we can do more cons if he's available, and Michael (Piano Squall) has been contacting his various connections at cons to see if we can start attaining guest status to some extent, which might offset the cost. It's too late for this year, but we've still got Anime USA. As far as next year goes, we're gonna try to be more aggressive, but often "real life" issues restrain us.
  10. Ooooh! I love finding out about cool stuff that I SHOULD be hip to via OCR forums. Huge fan of Julie Taymor for one reason: Titus. It's probably my favorite Shakespeare film, has a badass soundtrack, and is directed with absolute conviction but also extreme deviance and, I'd argue, genius. Gotta let my sister know... very psyched.
  11. This is just a note that Carlson from Mad-Gear (http://www.mad-gear.com/) will be at Anime Weekend Atlanta this weekend selling OC ReMix shirts for $12 and hoodies (yes, we have some in stock now) for $22. If you buy two shirts or a shirt and a hoodie (or MORE), you get a free copy of our promotional Final Fantasy VII: Voices of the Lifestream CD/CD-ROM package. Only 200 were made, many are gone or going to mixers, and while we may make more, they won't be exactly the same, so from a certain perspective these are "collector's editions" - Carlson only has five to give to the first five customers who buy two shirts or a shirt and a hoody, so if you're going to AWA check it out, show some support for OC ReMix, and buy a couple (or MORE) stuffs - trust me, we need the money. Please don't ask Carlson, myself, or any site staff if you can purchase this album - it is not for sale, and will only be given away promotionally, never with any additional cost attached to it, and at least for now, not online. Luckily the whole album is free! If you want another chance to get a copy, please come see our panel at Anime USA (http://www.animeusa.org/, not yet 100% confirmed but seems likely), MAGFest (http://www.magfest.org/), or Otakon next year - we'll be saving enough promotional copies of the album to give them away as prizes at these events.
  12. We'll definitely be at Anime USA; need to do an announcement/meetup thread soon...
  13. We REALLY wanted to attend AWA and do a panel there, but their management/staffing for panels was excruciatingly slow and unprofessional in responding to our emails. It's a shame, because we could have been there to see this and help pimp it on our own panel. I don't ever intend on attending this convention until either their panel/events staff changes or I get an apology for their behavior and a personal invitation for OC ReMix to attend. Anyways, awesome news on the project - I'm sure it'll kick ass, I'll see it eventually at another con, etc., and thanks for mentioning VotL - I just wish we could have been there.
  14. Won't be getting a room since I'm about 35 mins. away and like having a homebase to retreat to for those overrated things like zen time, attending to personal hygiene, etc. Anyone that's stayed with me before has a standing invitation to come back, but I think most of those folks have rooms. Also, if anyone at all is staying at my place, at least one of you would need a car, since mine is small and I might not be present 100% of the time.
  15. Thanks for helping out guys; much appreciated. One of the more interesting things about the onslaught of traffic is that a good amount was coming from Japan; I submitted the story to VORC but I think a few other Japanese sites picked up the news as well. Very cool!
  16. I'm working on an improved album listing; while we will always give priority exposure and placement to OverClocked ReMix albums, perhaps this new page can do a better job of linking to non-OCR stuff, which our links page already does...
  17. Ditto that. Also, you're really not telling us anything we didn't know... though we appreciate the feedback and I think the intentions are good, we DID have this discussion internally, and weighed the pros/cons of a larger distribution vs. a somewhat esoteric file format. That Winamp has FLAC support built in now is great, but a lot of folks are using (gasp) WMP or whatever, and say what you want about WAV, it's definitely foolproof. I could have gone either way on this issue... I'm not convinced the wrong decision was made, either - if we'd gone with FLAC, we might be getting an equal number of confused emails. Those folks would be less aggressive/visible as they'd be less likely to post on a thread because of the noobish nature of their confusion, but... hindsight's always 20/20. It's a little disappointing that folks always assume we gave zero thought to the issue, or went with WAV to inflate bandwidth statistics, or try to graft the worst possible intentions onto what amounts to a technical decision that was weighed and duly considered. It's definitely worth talking about this for future projects as the optimal solution to me remains elusive. However, we're ALWAYS gonna have folks pushing OGG who don't appreciate the accessibility of MP3, we're always gonna have people pushing FLAC who don't appreciate the accessibility of WAV, and dumbing down the issue or oversimplifying it and demonizing us seems immature. Then again, this is the Internet, so perhaps I'm being naive...
