  1. Really good feedback, everyone... I haven't had time to implement or respond in detail, but there are some excellent points. Regarding the document's length, which estêvão pointed out and is apparently revising, I don't know... many of the suggestions made are valid, but will only make the document larger. I want to keep the size down, but any time we try to produce a shorter, "basic" version, we're always leaving something out that is rather critical. I sorta feel like anyone taking the time to do a remix should have 15 minutes to read the standards, especially since the judges spend a lot more time than that debating things when a mix doesn't clearly follow them... BUT I also understand that OC ReMix isn't the center of the universe, people besides myself (and the judges) are busy too, and a huge document could dissuade legitimate and talented mixers from submitting. I suppose I'll wait to see what estêvão comes up with - perhaps he could do what we cannot, without losing critical aspects. Anyone have thoughts on this specific topic? I'll address other comments as well as soon as possible.
  2. We wanna do stickers and we REALLY want to do professional dvd-roms... not sure about mugs... problem right now is $$$ - the recent shirt run cleaned us out, we haven't had donations in a long while, etc. It's still on my list, but it'll have to wait until we build back up our funds. If you have any obscenely rich friends/family/neighbors/random strangers in your vicinity, now's the time to convince them to donate their life savings to a good cause
  3. You'd basically need to track down the ROM and then run SNESSOR on it, unless I'm missing something. http://www.zophar.net/utilities/snesaud.html Alternatively, if any of that talking is in the sound test, you could just log it straight from zsnes. Delete the rom afterwards if you don't own the game, or purchase it through Wii Virtual Console, etc., to avoid piracy concerns.
  4. This was related to our recent switch to UTF-8 encoding, and should now be fixed.
  5. working on it; need a patch of time I can dedicate. looks like the following wordpress plugins will be useful: http://www.dagondesign.com/articles/add-signature-plugin-for-wordpress/ http://www.dagondesign.com/articles/posts-by-author-plugin-for-wordpress/
  6. I won't argue its functional merits, but from a server admin perspective, it's not, since it seems to chew up much more memory... current mem limit on PHP is 16M, had to bump it recently for mediawiki upgrade, but it seems like vb still isn't happy...
  7. Technically, it's an argument against allowing threaded mode, as that's the only reason you're seeing that error, I believe...
  8. Changes are in bold: To help clarify that sound effects are perfectly fine additions to ReMixes, they just can't be the focus. "Overusing" instead of "using" should help clarify that simply using a Reason preset won't disqualify your mix. I use presets all the time. What we're referring to is a mix that consists entirely of unaltered and very common presets. Also, we're using the word "discouraged" here specifically because doing this won't get your mix rejected 100% of the time - if everything else is amazing and you've used nothing but FL presets, your mix may still pass. Good feedback. Pascal, we'd definitely be interested in a French translation. I'm PM you soon; we'll want to wait until the document is finalized.
  9. Current: http://www.ocremix.org/info/Submission_Standards_and_Instructions Revision (Draft): http://docs.google.com/View?docid=dd8pdm8j_36n4w2qc I personally felt that the current standards were unnecessarily long, inconsistently formatted, and overly complex, and recently worked a good deal on revising them for clarity, simplicity, and length. I received feedback from Larry specifically and the judges panel as a whole, and revised accordingly based on that input. Basically, this is wordsmithing - there aren't major policy changes to the actual standards themselves - but nevertheless we wanted to make the revised draft available for public comment before putting it in place. Hopefully you'll agree that it's cleaner and clearer; if there are parts you think remain fuzzy, please let us know. Do understand that some of the wording almost has to be a little subjective, as the process itself involves subjectivity, but on the more objective criteria and instructions, if anything is unclear we'd like to improve it. We're NOT looking for a debate on the actual standards criteria themselves. That's for another time and another place, and we're pretty darn sure we like what we have. But we do want to make sure what we have is also as clear as it can be. We're interested in translating this document into other languages, so a cleaner and clearer revision will also facilitate that process. Please let us know what you think about the revision. Thanks, -djp
  10. I double-checked with my girlfriend, who was born there and speaks it every day, first. So, whatever sense it's not making, don't trust babelfish for accuracy... Basically: It's all for the best [something unwelcome has happened but may may be a good thing in the end.]
  11. Yes, absolutely. Quoted from the policy, for emphasis: In the case of public or semi-public performances where accreditation is not reasonable, responding to audience inquiries with this information will suffice.
  12. Added to http://www.ocremix.org/includes/css/ocr4_main.css Can you refresh/clear cache and verify that it address your issue? UPDATE: I forgot that applying background to input makes buttons white too... afraid not too many people are gonna like that, although it doesn't bother me... we'll see, might need another solution...
  13. It's doubtful that we'll significantly alter the overall design at this point. Any modifications to the design will be less "exciting", as they'll be made specifically to facilitate content additions and features, not to redesign the aesthetic just for the sake of it. I promised Richter that one day I would blog a bit on developing the current design; it really did keep me up at nights, took a good deal of time, and was the result of several less-than-ideal first attempts...
  14. The RSS feed is borked; known issue, trying to fix. XSLT thing.
  15. Two solid endorsements... I'm sold. Comparisons to PB set high expectations, but I'll be open-minded....
  16. Somebody set him up the LAMP == He get signal
  17. Jesse's correct in that there's no explicit 50% rule, nor do I think we want to add one that would actually have judges resorting to stopwatches and basic addition to determine whether a mix complies. That Heath spent a good deal of time on this mix shows; production is perhaps his strongest yet, and I was definitely groovin'. I know he already despises us for our anti-trance ways, and this rejection won't help, but I don't think any genre should be given special treatment, and I can assure him and others that if someone sent in an orchestral, jazz, rock, etc. arrangement with 2 minutes of original intro and a pretty long original outro as well, it probably wouldn't be passed. I'm not sure if our current standards make this clear. At all. And for that, to Heath and others, I apologize. We're wasting your time when we're not as clear as possible on what we're looking for, and everyone gets frustrated, and I get bummed because I can't post songs like this which I enjoy and would much rather see on the site than not. I hope that the new standards will address this. They are being revised by the panel but will also be posted for public comment before being implemented.
  18. What's the price differential? Zzounds should honor and match it, so you're not losing any money AND you're helping us... As a side note, we REALLY need help right now; last shirt run left us basically cleaned out. As far as special forum status or whatever, I don't know, but for $3000, if we get the Zzounds commission, I can definitely send a shirt your way, and perhaps Larry could hook you up with a custom avatar...
  19. I just bought Cubase 4, so my vote goes to "The Broke"
