  1. I vote not Hooters and not CPK... we've been to Baltimore several times now and while these worked just fine, we've been to each at least twice. Cheesecake? We should probably do a reservation this time, too... they're always a bit flabbergasted when tons of OCR peeps show up at their door... Does someone want to enumerate our options and gauge preference? Cheesecake's good but perhaps a bit expensive? There's that whole big food court, but finding seating there for even four people can be ridiculously difficult...
  2. OC ReMix at Otakon: Site Staff to Present Panel on Video Game Music ReMixing For Immediate Release July 16th, 2007 Contact: Larry Oji, larryoji@gmail.com BALTIMORE–-OverClocked ReMix (www.ocremix.org), a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the appreciation and preservation of video game music, will have an official presence at the fan convention Otakon (www.otakon.com). The highlight of OC ReMix's participation will be a panel presentation on Friday morning at 10 a.m. featuring OCR submissions judges and the unveiling of a soon-to-be-released album project created by the Web site's contributors. This weekend's convention marks OverClocked ReMix's second official presentation at Otakon, a convention which brings together fans of anime, manga, cosplay, video games and East Asian culture. First held in 1994 with an attendance of 350, the convention has since grown to over 22,000 attendees in the heart of Baltimore's landmark Inner Harbor to become the second-largest anime convention in North America. The relationship between OverClocked ReMix and Otakon began at last year's event, as both organizations share a mutual interest in promoting fan participation. OverClocked ReMix's primary focus is a Web site that hosts fan arrangements of game music from musicians around the world, available for download free of charge. David W. Lloyd, a local resident of Fairfax, Virginia, created the site in 1999 with the goal of promoting game music through arrangement and reinterpretation. "Otakon has always been aimed at fan participation--in what they love, not just consumption," says Jim Vowles, member of the Otakorp, Inc. Board of Directors. "Video game and anime music can be beautiful, not just catchy, and because we tend to live with it in repetition for hours, it quickly becomes part of our lives. These fantastic soundtracks have helped form a set of shared experiences that transcends cultures." "OC ReMix is proud to be included once again as part of the programming during this great event," says David W. Lloyd, also known as "djpretzel." "We hope fans of our site will come and attend the convention and support video game music and fandom." Panel Information: Name of Panel: "OverClocked ReMix: Video Game Music Evolved" Date: Friday, July 20, 2007 Time: 10AM-Noon Location: Ballroom 2, Panel 4 For registration Information, visit www.otakon.com. Hundreds of free game music arrangements and a thriving community of game music fans can be found at OverClocked ReMix's Web site, www.ocremix.org.
  3. There's one spot left at my place; Andy, Jill, and Jill's brother are staying. We're short on transportation at the moment, but the lodging slot is there (offer to Bahamut only at the moment).
  4. AE's doing a show with virt and prozax in NYC on July 29th apparently... perhaps he can post more details, whether the meetup occurs on this date or not (I can't make it any time in July, but might be good for August)...
  5. For the record, to clarify, the reason we're not implementing something like this isn't because someone else is already planning to do so. It's a conscious decision on my part specifically (but I believe the staff support me) to avoid turning the site into a popularity contest. The original poster indicated it'd be "insulting" NOT to have a forum for rating someone's music; I have essentially the opposite opinion. Before VGMix 1 existed, this decision was made. I do view the competitions that are run as being an excellent way of allowing the competitive spirit to thrive in a context that seems more appropriate, but I've never wanted anything of the sort to extend to all of OCR.
  6. There's a remote chance I could do something in August.... July is booked up one side and down the other...
  7. I had to wait until after the VGL meetup to watch this with my friend. We've followed the whole series week by week, we've been watching anime together since... 1998 or so... and we both think this is one of the best things we've seen. I had no real problems with how they ended the series; it didn't seem rushed, it was dramatic but not overdramatized, which was very key, and the matter-of-fact way that revelations were handled was very effective. I think this deserves to be remembered as one of the better anime, and will be. I also find it cool that they ran a season and a half, and didn't try to stretch things out too long or cut them off too quick. Very few shows end at episode 37, but very few shows are like Death Note. Awesome.
  8. I'll be reuploading this tonight... sorry for the delay.
  9. This song is the definition of awesome. Also, Taucer is one sexy motherfucker. I think I'm going to go give him head right now.
  10. Seat-finding material, for now at least... maybe one day something OCR can be incorporated into the show proper, but a mix playlist works well for intro/outro as people funnel in or leave.
  11. The partnership between OverClocked ReMix and Video Games Live comes naturally, as both organizations share a common interest in promoting game music as an art form. "It's really amazing to be working with ocremix.org because I've always been such a huge fan of the site and the idea behind it," says Tallarico.
