  1. This is really good news. Good to have you back, sir.
  2. Did you read my post regarding the upgrade? I don't understand whether your comment was meant sarcastically, but I explicitly stated that I didn't intentionally change anything. There may be visual discrepancies due to a change between sablotron and libxslt as the underlying transformation engine, but they are not of my design...
  3. The site was recently upgraded from PHP 4 to PHP 5, which required downtime and some troubleshooting by the good people at LiquidWeb. At this point all features are believed to be working, but if you see anything that's not functioning as it used to or seems broken, please report it here. No new functionality was added as a result of this upgrade, but it paves the way for future improvements, and also PHP 4 support will terminate at the end of this year. Sorry for the inconvenience.
  4. Didn't realize there was a way to make VGM... the format's not console specific to begin with, so are you referring to SMS or Genesis??
  5. Incorporation of non-game material used in submissions needs to be minimal, but is allowed with a narrow range of acceptable use.
  6. We could treat mobygames or other entities as authorities; I'm sure they've worked through similar issues before. The standards as written pretty much indicate that if it's debatable at all, we reserve to make the judgment call on a case-by-case basis, which is safer (and far more concise) than trying to get philosophical and conclusive on the subject.
  7. Well, which bits? I can control the layout of the main areas of the site, but AFAIK vbulletin doesn't have a "mobile" skin out-of-the-box... I really would like to get the site working on mobile devices... perhaps I could do mobile.ocremix.org as a subsite or something. There's also a way of specifying separate CSS for handheld devices. But, testing for the variety of devices out there can take ages. Anyone have some *concrete* ideas or answers or suggestions for better mobile access to OCR?
  8. Fixed Aplus mirror (for now) Changed to javascript:void(0) for tab links instead of anchor Added avatar path to alt text for identification purposes
  9. None of the above appeared to be the case; perhaps if you simply don't log in or make any modifications to your account, it can "fall asleep" or something, because logging in and mucking around randomly seems have fixed the issue. It's working now for me when it wasn't before... Can anyone else who was having issues verify that it's now fixed?
  10. I distinguish music written for operating systems from music written for games, specifically. The music for creating Miis, for example, isn't different from the soundtrack for the little demo video that comes with Windows XP. They're both written to accomplish a purpose related to the use of an operating system. We definitely wouldn't allow a ReMix of the XP video, so the Wii stuff is out, too. You can use a PC to play games, and you can use a Wii to browse the web, so as the line between computers and consoles continues to blur, I think it's important to be very specific: game soundtracks is what we're about.
  11. I'm actively looking into it... I THOUGHT it was a question of my credit card expiring, but they don't rebill us until August 20th... my current hypothesis is that one of the following has occurred: We hit a bandwidth limit and instead of a graceful error something else went wrong They don't like us and think we smell The utility domain, djpretzel.web.aplus.net, is the culprit, and a full domain pointed at their DNS servers is required to rectify whatever issues it apparently has This last bullet is my current favorite; their control panel is odd and they seem to REALLY want a full domain attached to the account, not a subdomain, and not their temp domain. For the record, when it worked, the Aplus mirror was quite speedy and consistent, so hopefully we can resuscitate it shortly and clean its sullied name...
  12. I have modified our mission statement; for one, I've renamed it to simply "Mission" as that's obvious enough and feels less corporate to me. More significantly, I've reworded for clarity and simplicity, and included a new aspect that emphasizes ReMixer development and assistance breaking into the industry. The old mission felt a little too wordy and specific, and also wouldn't have translated into other languages as effectively, which we're looking at doing for most of our important documents. http://www.ocremix.org/info/Mission You can view the new and old versions side-by-side here: http://www.ocremix.org/wiki/index.php?title=Mission&diff=1804&oldid=1802 I know mission statements can often be seen as cheesy or whatever, but I take ours pretty seriously, and as the site grows it was definitely time to revise it for both scope and transparency.
  13. Perhaps OC ReMix could partner with vgmusic.com IN partnering with redoctane, or for future contests/giveaways? I'm interested in doing this sort of thing myself, but it doesn't make all that much sense for us to post on each other's forums, when we could be doing joint, official announcements...
  14. I was first!! Still, have a birthday commensurate to the amount that you rock, which is a lot.
  15. I've used almost everything at one point or another, with the exception of Digital Performer. I haven't touched the later versions of Logic or Pro Tools, but the former always seemed counterintuitive to me and the latter has lacked strong MIDI functionality for years. I'm a Cubase man. For me, it offers the best combination of power features and ease of use. I need a traditional linear track view, so Fruity's basically out, I need plug-in hosting and tempo/time-signature modifications, so Reason's out, and as far as Sonar goes... I'm playing around with 6 and find it usable, but the interface still feels... uncertain to me. That's the best adjective I can describe: I think I'm using it correctly, but things feel wishy-washy whereas with Cubase when I perform an edit it seems more decisive, the controls and overall interface more responsive and logically arranged. As I'm writing this, I'm finally upgrading to Cubase 4. I bought two copies for both of my studios. I'll be posting a separate thread on my thoughts, if I don't just dedicate a blog entry on it. SX 3.x is my favorite over anything else at the moment, regardless, so hopefully 4 will only increase the margin.
  16. We've got hoodie stock and just need to get it into eStarland's database, so that won't be an issue. I might be running a poll soon to gauge interest in mugs, hats, posters, or (my personal favorite) bumper stickers. I'll also add that we printed 400 glossy fliers for $50 at Kinko's which were invaluable in spreading the word at Otakon. As sort of a viral/promotional concept, to help spread the word and what not, I'm thinking of making the source PDF for this flier and others like it for people to print out and put up at their workplace/college/whatever. Anyone be willing to do that? We'd have a single page design for cheaper monochrome printing on regular paper, so it wouldn't be too cost prohibitive, as well as the glossy 1/4 page design for the shnazzier but $50 kinko's printing. Passing these around at concerts, bars, or anywhere is a fairly decent way of getting the word out, imo...
  17. Considered it; I agree on one level but disagree on another. It's consistent for the leftmost column to be the "main" entity being listed, yes, but we're also consistently presenting ReMixes with the game first, because this most closely represents their official, complete title and also echoes ID3 tags, etc. Ultimately I feel consistency with the game-first-title-second convention outweighs the leftmost-column-is-primary-data-item-column issue, and prefer it this way. Just letting you know I considered it originally, and reconsidered it upon your feedback. Hovering over the avatar and getting the avatar name sounds good to me, will do it when I get the time. Aplus mirror is a case of my credit card expiring and their control panel being... less than intuitive. Should be addressed sometime this week. Obviously, we haven't posted in over a week, so that's first priority, but I want to start checking off some of these dev items before they become unmanageable.
  18. What I'd specifically like is for BlackMyst to do some more official, HQ artwork with different poses, etc.; I felt strongly that his design should be the "official" OCR-tan (no objections to the awesome variants, however), but without more material, from my perspective the applicability is limited, i.e. I don't want to utilize something that I don't have the flexibility to contextualize. Or something. I PM'd him several times but he sorta fell out of communication...
  19. At this point in time we're only hosting chiptunes for games we have mixes for, and also have a backlog of chiptunes to be added, thus are not looking for submissions/suggestions. We're planning to expand this aspect of the site to potentially include more chiptunes and chiptunes for games not yet ReMixed...
