  1. You know, I'm not really a big fan of the title either, which is why it's a working title. A lot of people in the old thread starting calling it East vs. West cause we're covering both soundtracks and the game is kinda like a rivalry between Sonic and Metal Sonic and whatnot. Which does make sense, but I don't know, I'm not particularly sold on it. I can see both sides of the argument though. I was chatting with Rexy the other day and she brought up a few good points, like how East vs. West kinda gives off that Wild Arms vibe of eastern instrumental influences on old-western themes and whatnot, which isn't what we're going for here at all. She brought up a suggestion that we should name it something that revolves around time travel, since that was the core component of this Sonic game. Especially when you look at the feel of each soundtrack: the US soundtrack was more laid-back and organic ("past"), whereas the JP/EU soundtrack had more of an electronic & upbeat feel to it, and was considered kind of "out-there" and ahead of it's time when the game was released ("future"). So I don't know, maybe we play on those "Past meets Future" themes or something, and come up with something a little more catchy and appropriate. Thoughts anyone?
  2. VVVV. hahaha, I want to hear this FF2 Victory Mix with you singing "WE JUST KILLED THAT MOTHERFUGGAH" hahahahaha

  3. OK I'm going through all these PMs now. A few things... If you are making a claim, please try to let me know what you have in mind for the song (i.e., style/genre, direction, etc.) if you have an idea. Also if you want to collab, please let me know how you'd want to contribute (i.e., particular instrument, arrangement, vocals, etc.) and what you'd be looking for in a potential collaborator. It'll be a big help for me to evaluate the claims and to potentially match people up who want to collaborate, to see if it'd be possible. Thanks, I appreciate it! EDIT: OK cleaned up the claims list. Little confusion with DusK's original claim... it was for the 30-second title jingle. He's doing Sonic Boom now (with vocals) instead. I removed the Title Screen jingle from the claims list. It's not really a full song... but if someone is dying to do it, then PM me about it and I may re-add it. Also, I may have super friggen amazing mega-collab plans formulating for Stardust Speedway JP. We'll see . EDIT EDIT: And now Protodome just signed up too... this project is exciting me way to much.
  4. You guys are great... I've received a looooooot of PMs last night and today so far, so I'll be going through those tonight, responding, and updating the claims list where necessary. In other news, I also potentially have some more big names lined up to claim tracks, so that's exciting! Oh and Gar - you don't necessarily have to make a WIP of the track you want to claim, tho you can if you think it might help. Just PM me what you were thinking and provide some examples of other stuff you've done that you think is good. We can go from there and see what is appropriate.
  5. I highly endorse Jesse's (Xarnax42) work, he makes good stuff. He did the vocals in Phonetic Hero's mix in the SZRC and then Calum's bossa nova mix for the FF6 contest that was absolutely brilliant. I'm so excited to get this started everybody!
  6. Alright everyone, official project thread is here now: http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?p=887852 Go there for all the details and post in there from now on. Thanks!
  7. Yeah sure go for it. Sorry man, I didn't really go back through the old thread since everything wasn't finalized. Plus Robbie had an old WIP he said he wanted to revisit for the project. I'm not sure what style he is thinking, so another option would be we can make your song a bonus track if everything else gets claimed. Go ahead and PM me some examples of your stuff
  8. TEMPORAL DUALITY: A Sonic CD ReMix Project Cover Art by TheSmai, Logo by SuperiorX Temporal Duality is the 45th album published by OverClocked ReMix and arranges music from Sonic The Hedgehog CD, released in 1993 for the Sega CD. It features 38 tracks arranged by 39 artists that cover both the JP/EU and US soundtracks, originally composed by Masafumi Ogata, Naofumi Hataya, Spencer Nilsen, David Young, and Sterling Crew. Sonic CD was unique from other Sonic games of the era due to its time travel system that allowed players to experience 4 variations of each stage. The game featured different soundtracks for the JP/EU and the US releases, which were both ahead of it’s time for video games, being among the first to have Red Book CD Audio. Spanning 3 discs and numerous genres, Temporal Duality is the fourth OverClocked ReMix album to pay tribute to the Genesis-era Sonic The Hedgehog series! 9. Yeah you make a good point. Especially when thinking about it in the context of Sonic versus Metal Sonic. And yeah people definitely tend to prefer one soundtrack over the other. So in that sense, "versus" may be more appropriate than "meets". I'm not too concerned with it at the moment, as we'll have tons of time to decide what the official title should be. I appreciate hearing everyone's point of view though, so thanks!
  10. Agreed. My working title (if we don't come up with something better) will be East Meets West: A Sonic CD Tribute Project. East Meets West or East vs. West is pretty much the same thing, but I like the idea of east meets west a bit more, as in two separate soundtracks are coming together for the project, instead of east versus west, which implies that the soundtracks are somehow "facing off" against one another and that one will win. If that makes any sense.
  11. I don't see why not. Collaboration is really going to be one of the things I stress on this project. We had so much collaboration in the SZRC compo and I think it really benefited from it.
  12. I like that I'm being called The Boss now. Hopefully Bruce Springsteen won't mind. Hmmm.... that is an interesting idea. I was already planning on having themed discs (Metal Sonic for JP/EU and Sonic for US, cause I thought their characteristics matched the styles of the soundtracks nicely), but I hadn't been thinking about themes of the actual music too. The only thing I'd be worried about is putting restrictions on what people can create for each disc. I think those themes may come out naturally given the soundtracks anyway (JP/EU a little more electronic based, US a little more organic). I would like each disc to feel cohesive, so I may just recommend that be the feel for each disc, but I'm cautious about requiring that be the feel for each track on the disc. I like it though. In other news, I think I'm going to open up the official thread tomorrow with all the details and open it up for claims. I have most of the staff assembled and things are looking really exciting. I got a lot of people interested as well. Speaking of interest, I've had quite a few people interested in doing the vocal tracks and since technically there were only one version of each, I was thinking (if there was enough interest) to have "alternate" remixes (that is, remixes that are in a completely different style as the originals) on the US disc. So there'd be two versions of those overall as well. We'll see.
  13. Hey you guys should check this out, it's a really good cover! And we're going to get this guy on the Sonic CD album project Yeah.
  14. Happy birthday to my favorite trumpet player!
  15. Awesome, thanks I appreciate it! I've read up on all the project guidelines in the sticky, but I'm sure I'll have questions along the way since I've never attempted a project before. I imagine between you and Rexy, any advice would be a great help.
  16. OK so here's some additional info: As I mentioned below, I'm going to move forward as director of the project. As for the theme/vision of the album, it will be very similar to what Rexy described in this thread earlier. I want to cover both the JP/EU and US soundtracks (think something like East Meets West) and keep a similar high-energy feel of the original soundtracks. Sonic CD was quite distinct from other Sonic soundtracks as is, so I want to capitalize on the uniqueness of the soundtracks, but also allow the artists to bring there own take to it. The best example I can think of is halc's The Sound of Speed. It was like a Sonic Soundtrack 2.0, it was a single cohesive album that felt very much like a Sonic soundtrack and had superb quality songs. With that said, I have two goals for the album: Create an amazing album that will pay tribute to the Sonic CD soundtracks Have the project be an official OCR release, meaning the album will need to be of the superb quality of other OCR releases I have some ideas on how we'll achieve this, which I'll outline later. For now I'm assembling staff for the project. I have a few roles that I'm filling: Co-/assistant director: assist with administration duties, album direction, meeting deadlines, etc. I may or may have a co-director at this time, we'll see. Talent evaluators: team of 3-5 people that will solely assist with providing feedback on WIPs and helping with arrangement & production. They'll help ensure our songs will meet the standards needed for OCR release. Ideally these people will be other posted remixers and/or people who have proven that they can give solid constructive feedback. Most likely these will be remixers on the album as well. After I've finalized the staff, I'll start up my own project thread with all the complete details and open up the project for track claims. I anticipate this being in the next week or two. I'm incredibly excited to get this started and to work with everyone to pay tribute to the last great 16-bit era Sonic game yet to be tackled by OCR!
  17. Hey I saw your S&K mix got NO'ed the other day :-( ... I hope you resubmit it, I enjoyed it a lot!

  18. Oh sweet... I missed this the first time around... checking it out now. Sounds pretty awesome so far! You keep on improving, nice work man!
  19. Hey everybody, good news: I talked with Bev the other day and due to her other commitments, I've decided to go ahead and direct the project! I'm out right now, but I promise I'll post more details over the weekend about assembling staff and the album vision. Exciting!
  20. Nice theme! Someone should do Shade Man from Mega Man 7 Good luck everyone!
  21. I have no problem being that person, once I have the time. Like I said below, I'm just trying to be respectful of others who expressed interest in running this project before I did. I don't want to step on anyone's toes, per say. Plus I would like staff collaboration with a few other people at least.
  22. Yeah, sorry, I've meant to try to contact with you again after I tried back in September and we never got the chance to talk. I got super busy with life stuff too, so it kinda got in limbo. But yeah I wanted to bump this again since another Sonic CD thread popped up. Yeah, I also don't want to "hijack" your project since you started this thread first. But yeah, I'd love to help out with a Sonic CD project in any fashion. If I did direct it, it would probably be a month or so before I could begin "serious" work on it, outside of simple administration things. I've got a lot of stuff going on between work and life right now that I need to get taken care of. But whether it's me directing, or Rexy, or someone else, if I was involved I'd want to spend some time with the rest of the staff/co-directors first getting a lot of administration details ironed out before such a project got opened up to the public. Stuff like figuring out a common theme/direction for the album (which I think has already been outlined pretty well in this thread), and most importantly ensuring that the album meets the high quality standards set forth by OCR. I'm not sure the best way to approach that subject without coming across as being non-inclusive, but I think that's a really important concern for any project. And then just other stuff like figuring out a tracklist and stuff like that. So maybe we see how this goes and who else posts, as it seems that quite a few people are interested in helping with this project from a staff perspective?
  23. I'm a proud alumni of The Ohio State University. TBDBITL (The Best Damn Band In the Land) is always a highlight. Like seriously everyone at OSU loves the band, it's definitely not like other places where the band might be "looked down upon". Seeing them perform Script Ohio at games is always so friggen' awesome. But yeah this routine is great. The galloping horse is by far the coolest thing I've ever seen. As for people asking about recordings... I bet someone in the press box recorded it. OSU often sells CDs and videos of the band performances, so I wouldn't be surprised if a higher quality version of this pops up sometime in the near future!
  24. Since there are Sonic CD threads popping up all over, I decided to bump this thread, so we are all posting in the same one. With that said, what's the status of this thing? Who is still interested, who else might be interested? Rexy, do you have plans to move this forward? As I've stated publicly and privately, I'm definitely willing to direct, co-direct, or just help out with a Sonic CD project. If there are lots of people that want to help, I'm sure there would be plenty of work to go around. The more the better, right?
