  1. Holy moly, Gotta say, I listened to this a few times in the past couple of years. I guess beforehand, I never really just understood why it garnered so much attention but now, I come back to it after 5 times listening to it nonstop and I can really appreciate the scope of this masterpiece. This is a remix that will - forever - stand the test of time. As I go back and listen to the oldest remixes on the site, I have a feeling this will be like that for the next generation of ReMixers. Even idle listeners and those who spend their time in the community lurking in the shadows, will eventually end up at this amazingly imaginative piece and come to the realization just as I have: Video game music is the future's version of classical music. With this remix brought into the light, that understanding will become so clear, it'll be like looking through a wine glass. ...and with that, all words expended: I'm speechless.
  2. Damn it Pete, ya beautiful, brilliant bastard. How could I not remember this one? Seriously though, if there was any shadow of a doubt in your mind that it turned out awesome, erase that from your memory banks. This couldn't have been anymore awesome. \m/
  3. Hell yeah dude! Grats on your first mixpost. I'm sure it's been a long time comin'! To speak just about the mix alone, I'm totally feelin' the Enya new-age vibe. That guitar is, I don't think I can use any other words than Chimp: It's sweet. Very mellow, very smooth, good production. I'm feelin' some deep feels here. Great job dude. Lookin' forward to the next.
  4. Man, this song... I can distinctly remember where I heard this song first, and it wasn't on here, surprisingly enough. In the same year that this mix came out, is when the PSP-1000 lineup arrived in the USA. I'd spent a lot of time just messing around with the PSP adding modded material such as universal remotes, SNES ROMS, and naturally...PSP Revolution. It used a lot of the songs that Stepmania had already popularized. ...and bLiNd's remix was one of them. Despite all that, bLiNd's mix really served as a great source of inspiration. Before this, I doubt I'd heard many electronic remixes of video game music. I'd go as far to say past this remix, any of bLiNd's remixes are worth listening to. Great stuff.
  5. If there's a couple mixes I could attribute to my wanting to get involved in the remix community...this would be one of them. Disco Dan has had some great hits on here, but if I was ever in a mood to chill, or if I was with friends who wanted to hear something unique: This would be one of the first mixes I would go to. The soft, lush opening with an ambient pad, with the synthetic trumpet really set the stage for the big opening at 1:02. More instruments slowly make their way into the mix by way of automating the volume, and when the piano comes in...oh my. This is one of the best intros I've ever heard to a remix. It's mellow, fine-tuned greatness that could inspire one to make a change in the world. I can't write enough good things about this one as it makes me think about all the good times in my childhood and how I developed my own path. Truly magical stuff right here. Thanks Disco Dan.
  6. I just looked into my Origin game library for the first time in like 2 years, only to realize I had a Wing Commander III waiting for me, that...I honestly don't remember downloading. So strange. ...and having just seen this on the front page as one of Russian Roulette remixes, I'm glad it caught my attention. This is quite awesome for being from 2005; it's probably one of the cleanest live recordings I've heard on the site. I'm getting a strong Deep Purple or The Doors vibe from this one. I really don't have any critiques on this one, it's great. It feels a tad short if anything, I wanted more. But otherwise, this is greatness.
  7. Easily one of my favorite mixes from the album (and definitely up there with the best djp remixes). The style of the mix is really interesting; I've heard a lot of electro-orchestral tunes. Nothing quite sounds like this. As the beginning truly reminds me of Danny Elfman, by 45 secs in, he went straight up breakbeat. The source is easily identifiable until around 1:33 where djp fills the remix with own arrangement. Then again at 2:20. It's ridiculous how well this flows. Highly recommended. P.S. Dat brass ending. <3
  8. I love the Jazz Jackrabbit soundtracks. Like many others, it's based off this knowledge of the originals that we derived our own creative takes...and if we're not: We're searching for people who have. Krank created something pretty wonderful here. A very cool synth lead and some interesting deviations from the original melody really make this remix have a unique feel. The drums felt like they could use a little more variation but the mix can stand on its own two feet and it's because of all the other elements in the tune that really help keep you listening. P.S. This was actually the mix that made me consider having Krank solo on one of my own ReMixes. AND, if anyone's interested, this is his SoundCloud page (he has a new name): https://soundcloud.com/cassava
  9. Really liking this mix. I too, have never played Undertale, but this remix is a good motivation to give it a shot. The song is very happy, uplifting, and float-y. Dreamy in a way. The breakdown at 2:35 is well executed and the piano sounds great with the sweeping wind chimes. As the song starts to pick up again, subtle guitar plucks follow and by 3:35 the song is back in full swing again. It's a bit of a long track, nearly 6:30 mins. However, various changeups, interesting synth choices, and s-s-s-solos really help to keep it an interesting journey throughout. Good stuff!
  10. Man, this is pretty sweet dude. I can distinctly remember playing this whole segment in Final Fantasy VII, and it's cool how close you kept it to the original, while giving it a little more oriental flare. Congrats on getting your first solo post on OCR! P.S. Happy belated birthday!
  11. Damn, that intro delayed piano is actually quite beautiful. The chip instrument that follows has some weird velocity issues, but it's definitely a comforting addition to the piano. Another 15 old mix and the only thing I really have a huge gripe with are the drums. Even production values aside there definitely could've been a little more variation, hell even turning them down a little would've helped. The jungle breaks changeup at 2:51 comes as a sudden, but pleasant development. It doesn't change a whole lot from there aside from a few more low end synths appearing. The chugging rhythmic one in particular muddies up the mix a tad. But overall, this is great. I'd definitely listen again.
  12. This still remains such a good mix to this day. Incredible. As one of the first remixes I heard on OCR, this is a rare exception of a remix that's just as refreshing as it was the first time I heard it. I dunno, why or how. Music taste change isn't something rare, but it's almost always different with every person. Looking through the posts before mine, it's good to know I'm not the only one who thinks this mix has remained pretty pristine through the years. This particular song has been through it all though: Acoustic, Rock, Samba/Orchestral, House...(or both) Even the name of a project. ...or a band. (Probably not related at all.) Deviations aside, the remix is awesome and I'm pretty sure it'll always remain that way.
  13. Not exactly my favorite mix to date, but hey, it's got a cool TRON thing going in the beginning. The added element at 0:49 doesn't really help either, and I mean, I was really trying to like this one. I gotta agree with the statements before me: It feels very basic. It has this weird samba vibe going on but the remix feels very jumbled. Directionless. I wish this one could be updated, for sure.
  14. I heard quite a lot of McVaffe tunes back when I first actually heard of OCR back in 2004...a good 5 years before I even joined in 2009. But I suppose, this one slipped past my radar back then. The intro delayed piano sample has been discussed here before, but honestly I don't think it would've been a dealbreaker even back in 2001, the whole tune really reminds of a lot of older jungle dnb. It doesn't have a whole ton of drum variation, but the short stutters and cuts really help the song move forward smoothly. Kind of a weird fadeout though. Otherwise awesome.
  15. So chill. Oh man. As the beginning of this remix reminds of Christmas, it's crazy to think this mix is almost 15 years old. Chill things like this always bring back memories. The rhodes in the back does a great job filling the whole song out, and while I'm not overly fond of the vibraphone tone...it's not something I'm about to nitpick about. Everything about this remix is beautiful. Recommended stuff here, but it's cool to hear this, and then listen to some of his more recent stuff. Check it out!
  16. Gotta say for 2002, the quality is pretty great. I've never played the game, but having just listened to the original source before this, I can say that the tempo slow down totally works. It ends up reminding me of something I might hear from the Jazz Jackrabbit series. Some of the added arrangement is really cool, like the short but sweet solo at 1:23. As others have said before me, this one could do with an upgrade in production but, it has aged very well. Good stuff.
  17. Man, you guys have truly outdone yourselves. Fucking awesome. \m/
  18. Man, right from the start this one is pretty brutal. Excellent guitar tone, some intelligent playing and nice changeups. The fill at 0:40 is masterful. Some of the soloing, especially at 1:11, is awesome. Kinda makes me sad that BrainCells hasn't put anything out on the site for almost a decade now. The drums can feel a little weak at times, but the tight arrangement and mixing definitely fuel the remix more than enough and it's easy to overlook the use of a drum machine. Really like this tune.
  19. Honestly, this is a pretty decent rendition of the classic tune, but the samples do hold it back the quality of the remix quite a bit. The arrangement is great but because of that one thing, it might deter a few people. Around 2:37 when the piano comes in, it helps to humanize the piece but when the strings appear a few moments later...I'd say they took a bit too much of center stage. I like it though, it's enjoyable.
  20. Hey man, this is actually a pretty sweet idea. The general direction and progression seems very clear but production values are holding the song back. I downloaded it, played it in FL Studio, and came to the conclusion that the instruments seem to be colliding. Try cutting your low end on the pluck sounding instrument that comes in at the beginning of the song. At 0:14 there's a screeching synth, possibly add some reverb to it? It sounds kinda dry. It might be a good idea to look into sidechaining, a very useful technique for "ducking". You can find it in all sorts of electronic music where the bass ducks underneath the kick drum in order to make the song feel more dynamic. Example: https://soundcloud.com/au5/au5-fractal-ison-1(If nothing else, listen closely at 3:55) Yeeeah, the vocals are a tad cheesy but the song reminds me of early 90's trance...so, it could go either way? Production crits is all I got, otherwise this is great. Give the instruments more room and you're golden!
  21. mmm, compo time. 1.Gravity Antonion (X8) 2. Izzy Glow (X5) 3. Morph Moth (X2) 4. Armored Armadillo (X1) 5. Toxic Seahorse (X3)
  22. Man, really liking this one a lot. Super mellow sounding, the eerie ambient sounds in the background coupled with the piano and strings that drive the song forward. Beautiful stuff. Will take this with me on my trip to India!
  23. Hell yes, one of my favorite mixes in recent years. That intro, dayum...got me hooked immediately. Awesome work, both of you.
