That's good to hear! Okay, I'll fix this up, and hopefully it'll be finished! =D Hm... The transition is weak, eh? Okay, what if I shorten it and make it seem like it isn't one? EDIT: Now I feel the transition is a bit awkward. What do you think? I did add a lot of variation this time though. V7: http://tindeck.com/listen/yryz

This is very impressive. At least, to my ears. I think a judge would be more fitting to critique it for any issues.

finished Spring My Bubble (Spring Man + Bubble Man Remix)
timaeus222 replied to TGH's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
There's a neat style in this, with some nice effects going on there. The only thing I'd suggest is to tone down on the snare's reverb; try giving it more oomph instead. -

HUGE improvement! This just went from pretty good to epic. The only minimal issue I have left is that the synth you used might not be suitable for high notes. That's about it. =D -

I'm going to try something. I'll add to this remix and PM it to you later, and I want you to look at 0:48 with headphones on and see if you like it. That's kind of what I meant by a soothing synth being added there. Sorry if it's a bit intrusive. I just want to see this be awesome, since I love PMD. -
I worked on it some more. - Made some edits to the bassline. - Tweaked the balancing. - Added some oomph to the synth that was used for the minor (key) section. - Added a phasered synth solo in the background of the dance genre section. - Other small edits. finished PMD: Red/Blue Rescue Team - Run Away

I gotta say, the piano is MUCH better! Aside from what I said earlier, the only thing I would advise is to fill up your soundspace. If a section feels bare, make it rich. It's definitely enjoyable as it is, though. -
Yeah, I did kinda feel like it was a bit repetitive. I'll see what I can do about it. EDIT: Well, I managed to shorten it to 4:19. Added some temporary bass to the sections that didn't have the trumpet (which was replaced with strings). Took out some likely unnecessary (somewhat repetitious) variations. I'm still trying to find the perfect low pad for the bass though.

finished My Doom - The Demon's Dead remix
timaeus222 replied to Rabid Pickle's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Perhaps the judge didn't elaborate, or you just got unlucky. I think it's more than if it was a Black Sabbath cover or not. The intro's acoustic guitar(?) seemed to have a bit too much reverb and was then a bit muddy. The kick drum from 1:30 - 1:46 could be toned down because at that point it wasn't metal just yet. Also, maybe the structure of the song seemed too similar to Black Sabbath and maybe the judge just happened to have little patience or something. Mazedude's remix had a good feel to it, but it also "barely" made it through; one of the comments said it had a good intro and end, but overall it was "okay". -

Sorry. I'm not a mod, but I want to give my feedback. xD 0:00 - 0:15 ~ The drums could have some more variation, rather than the same pattern 8 times (silly me, I counted). Perhaps a four measure pattern (with each measure differing slightly), and then another one with the fourth one leading into a more complicated drum beat. I like your choice of a kit though. Also, perhaps you could put something in the treble range happening in that time frame too, so that it doesn't just sound like just drums when not wearing headphones. 0:18 ~ I would have liked the chiptune in the background, introduced here, to be legato with just a hint of portamento and trills, but that's just me. 0:32 - 1:04 ~ The piano sounds great. Forgive me for saying this, but put some feeling into it. It sounds like you're just playing the notes to have a piano pattern; I'm taking a wild guess and pretending that the piano was a real recorded one. If so, then practice playing the section while listening to the remix without the piano, and see if you get a different result. 0:48 ~ It would be very interesting if you had a soothing synth in the background do a countermelody here! 1:04 - 1:35 ~ I think you might have been going for bongos here, but I'm not sure. If you hadn't, I'd suggest bongos here. Overall though, at this time, the meshing of your instrument choices is very euphonious. There aren't any strange clashes or anything like that. If there was ever a progress bar, you're probably at 85%! -
wip Persona + Metal Gear Solid + Phantom of the Opera = ?
timaeus222 replied to DjMystix's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Try to lessen the Phantom of the Opera influence such that it isn't so obvious, but keep as much as needed to transition. It seems to stand out too much at this time. I do like it, but there is room for improvement. -
I know you said work on something else, but I just wanted to finalize this. I balanced the instruments some more, and I hope it's easier to hear most instruments this time. I also gave some more presence to the synths and piano. v4: http://tindeck.com/listen/chvo v3: http://tindeck.com/listen/nyuw v2: http://tindeck.com/listen/rxem v1: http://tindeck.com/listen/vmic Source:

True, I didn't know how I could connect the piano section and the section before it. What I did was fade out the section before it just enough to match the volume of the accompaniment of the piano. Can you give me some examples of which parts are conflicting? - Should I give the piano more presence? - What types of synths would you consider "interesting"? I felt that way too, and I did try to vary it more often on v2, and I guess it wasn't enough variation. Well, the drums were Groove Bias with compression and distortion effects. Personally, I don't like remixing songs I don't particularly enjoy, because usually a good idea doesn't pop into my head unless the thing is interesting, thereby making me quit in the middle of the remix because it just sucks, and I go choose a different song to try.

Yep, pretty much. Well, I finished v3 now, and thanks for the critique. I understand, there is a strange blend of genres, but it seemed to click for me. Yeah, I like it too when a song is recognizable, at least. If there's too much originality, it becomes your own song, really. Don't worry though, I've been re-editing it with a fresh mind each morning this week, so I always have been remixing with a "clear head". In v3: - Added a 33 second transition after the last solo (transition starts at 3:11) v3: http://tindeck.com/listen/nyuw v2: http://tindeck.com/listen/rxem v1: http://tindeck.com/listen/vmic

What I think is that the melody itself doesn't have a consistent tempo. If you can get a drum beat composer program (or a program that can do that and more, like FL Studio), then you can more easily have a melody with a consistent tempo because you can follow the consistent drums.

wip Final Fantasy V - Prelude To The Void remix
timaeus222 replied to Algamest's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
1:55 - WOW. That came out of nowhere. I'm listening to piano, and then suddenly a sweep comes in. Maybe you can fix that suddenness. Then afterwards, you can add some effects to it so that it isn't overpowering the piano so much. I'm sure you can do it though. Also, perhaps resolving the piano clashes in it will make it more pleasant to listen to. That is, unless they mean something. In that case you should modify them so that it's not just a random clash, such as a chord with C, C#, G#, and A (in a choir song called Snowflakes >.<). ------ Lewis is a "piano expert", I can tell. He knows what he's talking about; yeah, that's right, I heard Waterfall of Beer. xD
