Excuse me? EA? Are we living in the same universe? EA generally doesn't do anything innovative to begin with, how could they be the one of the only developers who could of brought something innovative to a Nintendo console? Suda51 works with any publisher who is willing to pay for his games to be developed. He has never stuck with a single publisher. EA has only published ONE of his games. He can make more games on the Wii U even if EA never picks him up again (He is currently working on Killer is Dead, published by Xseed in the US. Not on Wii U yet, but Grasshopper hasn't made any Wii U games yet) EDIT: Oh yeah not to mention some of Suda51's games were on Nintendo's platforms as exclusives until ported elsewhere (Killer 7 (GCN), No More Heroes 1 & 2 (Wii)) or hes ported a lot of his games to the DS. And none of those games were touched by EA Also, Platinum Games is making a few exclusive games on the Wii U (Bayonetta 2 and Wonderful 101) if you like Suda' stuff their stuff is generally better and just as over the top. (I love Suda's crazy ideas, but generally his games don't turn out very well in the gameplay department) As far as thei eShop, yeah that needs quite a bit of work. Their DRM system is very broke compared to others doing the same thing. It is a step in the right direction compared to the Wii. As far as the prices, unfortunately the big 3 (PSN/XBL/eShop) do not make their prices very cheap on their virtual stores, you won't see any great prices like you get on Steam or other digital stores

Brandon/Irish: Well there you go, there is a pretty large difference in clarity just between Composite/480i and Component/480p, let alone when you add HDMI and upscaling into the mix. Brandon: Go pop in the standard AV cables into the Wii instead of using component. If you still can't say you see a difference, you may need glasses (or better ones) big time :/ Also sorry about the wrong gender identification Irish! Didn't mean anything about it, I just don't ever pay attention to real names / profile info. Brandon: Super Metroid not being a good game? Not being worth 32 cents? Brandon, you really wont find anybody who shares that opinion, and probably for good reason. Nothing to do with nostalgia that game is seriously near perfect in design. Also, yes, the Wii U is mostly for Nintendo developed games (and maybe the off chance a 3rd party does something fun with it). If you didn't buy the Wii U for Nintendo's games... you did make a pretty bad purchasing decision. Especially if you bought it AFTER the reviews for all the 3rd party games wound up performing poorer than the 360/PS3. Like most recent Nintendo consoles, you pretty much buy it for Nintendo's games, and whatever features/gimmicks that it features. As far as the Wii U's Current Situation Its disappointing to see the Wii U floundering so much, but it looks like Nintendo is definitely trying to turn the situation around this year. Here is hoping they really wow us with the next (real) Mario game, because if the next Mario doesn't capture the same magic that Galaxy managed to rekindle, I don't think they'll be able to pull themselves out of this rut. But even outside of the next Mario they do have a pretty interesting line up of games coming out this year, and as soon as they build up a small library of excellent games (and the eventual price drop) then their situation should improve. I think it is pretty damn cool of them to have a "mini E3" at Best Buy, and they will still have their awesome Nintendo Direct. Nintendo may do things very strange and awkward/backward sometimes but they still come out with some neat ideas/surprises every now and then! Hopefully they will have some more secret goodies to reveal! EA not making games isn't a big deal IMO: They don't make interesting games in the first place. They weren't going to make something different than whats already out there on PS3/360 so what would be the advantage as a gamer to buy an EA product if they are missing features / aren't even optimized for the Wii U anyways? Even if 3rd a party support completely dries out (which probably won't happen), and Nintendo is the only one making games, as long as they still have a good lineup of games what does it matter in the end? As long as the Wii U isn't your only console (which is pretty late in the game if you don't have 360/PS3) you can play all those games on other consoles anyways. Besides, once the installed base of Wii U grows, 3rd party support should start picking up again In the end Wii U is not a good primary console, but it eventually make an awesome extra 2nd/3rd/etc console if you like Nintendo's stuff. Nintendo just needs to get in gear making those games! The Sonic game: Time to start the Sonic excitement/disappointment cycle again :/ Not getting my hopes up unless Nintendo has some direct involvement (sounds like they may just be publisher).

Either you didn't understand your own articles you posted (upscaling does not make any graphical difference) or you aren't really looking close enough (you really really have to be looking for a difference). It is possible your TV didn't even cause bad internal upscale issues with your Wii, especially if you were using component 480p on both. Irish could of been using 480i with regular composite AV cables for his Wii for all we know (he hasn't mentioned what he was using on his old Wii). Heck its even possible your TV isn't even displaying a sharp enough image to begin with TO tell a difference. All is possible, but it really isn't that big of a deal either way. He noticed a difference, you may have not. There is a potential to see a sharper image depending on multiple factors. Graphically, there isn't any difference.
-
The image will be sharper on HDTVs in 1080p even if its just upscaled from 480p. This is because a lot of HDTVs do not upscale internally very well, and they do even worse job with analog cables (which was the only option on Wii). Also if he was using standard composite that came with the console vs the superior component cables there would be a larger leap because average HDTVs really do not handle Composite signaling well at all either. No, the game itself isn't being rendered in a higher resolution Yes it is upscaled to higher resolution. No it will not create a gigantic difference but being HDMI + upscaled will definitely make it look better on your average HDTV. I wouldn't consider it Anti Aliasing per se, that enhances the original image, this just makes the image clear as possible and defeats bad upscaling from your TV. Its like... AntiTVAliasing.. or something! Anywho, its the clearest picture you can get from Wii games outside of Emulation. (which you CAN rerender in higher resolutions)

EB isn't a new game, its EB (aka Mother 2) for SNES as a Virtual Console release. Basically a ROM running in an Emu, there isn't going to be any work done really (Unless Nintendo really did alter some of the things they were afraid of, but that would be a slight music romhack, nothing they'd need the original team for) However, it is wonderful Nintendo actually is re-releasing this little gem after all this time. For those who don't do Emulation or can't find a cart it provides an affordable legal way to play it, and even on an HDTV! On top of that, they have finally acknowledged it exists outside of Japan! Now if they release Mother 3 outside of Japan that would be mind blowing, but I wouldn't get our hopes up (even if the fan translators have offered to give them their (Excellent!) version for free :/) As much as LttP is my favorite game in the entire series, I'm not sure how i feel about a "game in the same world" and what they mean by that (retelling? sequel?) All i know is the art design is a bit odd looking, the "LINK TURNS INTO A DRAWING!" is a strange/jarring thing to introduce while trying to play the nostalgia card (even if it can be used as a cool concept for new puzzles), and that camera is way way too zoomed in (very small playfield area). They seriously need to expand the playfield view a bit. Still, can't wait to see how it turns out!

OUYA: A $99 Android console meant to open up console gaming
Crowbar Man replied to Arcana's topic in General Discussion
That is all a massive over simplification. Even so, do you really expect an average individual to even be able to follow those "simple" steps? Virtually impossible? I've had fried components, bent pins, etc come in from people doing the stupidest of things. You have a pretty naive faith in humanity if you think its impossible for people not have enough skill to build a computer. And that is if everything works as expected and you don't get a defective part, bad ram, etc. and then have to trouble shoot what has gone wrong. Not to mention if you think everybody WANTS to. I don't know what your deal is but its obvious you are just arguing for argue sake without really much of a point, or basis in reality Edit: Ditto for Derrit -
OUYA: A $99 Android console meant to open up console gaming
Crowbar Man replied to Arcana's topic in General Discussion
Um, what indeed? I already have a computer hooked up to my TV. I play tons of console style games on my computer (did you not read any of my posts?) I'm not shallow thinking enough to think just because I've done it, everybody else will do it. Not if all you did was "get cable, plug in cable". It takes a lot more than that to build PC yourself (I built and fixed them for a living). Even if you bought one at a store theres quite a bit of setup involved. Either way, your average consumer does not buy a PC to hook up to a TV. Dance around that all you want but those are simple facts. This is a really lame rebuttal (and trollish) The fact is, your PC cost more then $99. This is $99. Facts. You said your PC "cost you $0" to hook up to a TV, yet that isn't true because you bought it at some point. Or someone else bought it for you. They don't materialize out of thin air, but if you found a way to do that, I would love to learn your secrets! (Seriously. It would be a lucrative business endeavor ) How so? Just because YOU don't like it or people aren't giving it a chance? It isn't even technically out yet so isn't that a bit early to say anything about it? So far they've done what they've said: Its a low barrier entry console at best, and just another Android device on the market at worse. So it is doing technically what they advertised -

Derrit: 1) Not everybody wants to play console style games on a computer, or hook their computer to a TV. This just isn't considered "Normal" even if its a thing that can obviously be done by those who want to. We've been down this road. 2) How is $600 cheaper than $99? Or any other consoles for that matter? 3) As Ramaniscence pointed out, you don't seem to really know what you are talking about. Maybe you haven't seen a PSP in a while, or confusing it with the Vita, but PSP has some pretty dated graphics (low resolution, lack of effects, low polycount, etc), it wouldn't be very hard to surpass it on the OUYA (or any modern mobile device for that matter) even for a smaller dev. It has a far more modern graphics API, programmable shaders, and there are tons of tools available on the market a lot even free. The quick ports on it NOW look better than PSP games. The hardware's resolution, polycount, and effects alone make it pretty hard to make something look worse than PSP. And that is just 3D. How's it going to be harder to make games look better in 2D on it? 4) No matter what, you have big black letter boxing on PSP on a TV. The cord doesn't come with PSP (extra $$). The cord tethers you to your TV so you can't relax too too far away. It still has a MSRP $129. It is reaching End of Life Cycle. You really can't do local multiplayer without another unit on top of everything. Don't know why these points keep getting ignored, or why PSP keeps being dragged into the conversation in the first place Just seems odd people want to keep kicking up a fuss over something that costs a measly $99 and is aimed at bettering the market for small devs in the console space. I'm going to enjoy the ride and hope for the best. -
OUYA: A $99 Android console meant to open up console gaming
Crowbar Man replied to Arcana's topic in General Discussion
I was talking as being a part of the more indie friendly deployment platforms vs "traditional" console platform models, didn't mean to attract PC Master Race types. My mistake? PC was on the proindie/friendly side by the way, not sure what the offense was. Obviously you've never built OR set up a PC gaming rig if you think it is "Get cable, plug cable". And no, PCs do not cost $0. Just because you have it now doesn't mean that you didn't pay for it at some point. What a lousy argument. Also, just saying anything has "better" exclusives than another platform just screams fanboyism. It is your opinion. Not fact. Don't be closed minded. It is a fact however, that limiting yourself to one platform will make you miss out on things that do not come to it. -
OUYA: A $99 Android console meant to open up console gaming
Crowbar Man replied to Arcana's topic in General Discussion
*sigh* Even if you consider that a console (Hint: It is not.) That endeavor is going to require a lot more technical skills, a lot more tweaking (Big Picture Mode doesn't magically make everything work right) and cost a WHOLE lot more than $99. It isn't for everybody by ANY stretch of imagination. Its of course an awesome thing for those in the know. Now, Steam BOX is a whole other ball game, and we'll wait for that to become reality That aside, you may eventually miss out of OUYA/Android/Mobile "exclusives" just as sticking to one "console" or PC always does. You can't play everything on PC or single console. I like my PC games (and have a PC hooked up to a big screen) but I wish people would stop trying to bring PCs into console discussions :/ -
OUYA: A $99 Android console meant to open up console gaming

Derrit: Why wouldn't a good game be good, regardless of Indie or AAA? Like Cerrax said, having a large budget does not make a game good by any means. Plenty of "blockbuster" big budget games turn out totally crap. Acting like having a large budget is somehow making games better really shows you haven't been paying attention to the market or gaming in general. You always creep your insinuations that Indie games are somehow inferior in your discussions. As far as 1080p vs LETTER BOXED Sub 480p: are you really arguing that just because all indies might not make the best super realistic 3D models that having a letter boxed sub 480p is somehow better? The PSP is pretty limited even on how many polygons it can use in the first place. That plus its resolution limitation, plus the dithering when in limited color mode (for better performance), etc. Even something with all blocks for graphics (like minecraft) would still look better in 1080p. Seriously, what are you even trying to put in this argument here? Besides if you can't enjoy a game just because it doesn't have eye bleeding realistic graphics, then A) you can't be much of a gamer and you probably aren't really interested in indie games in the first place. Regardless, there are a lot of beautifully crafted indie games, both 2D art and 3D modeling. As far as console venues: PSN: Not too bad, still have the extremely large overhead of needing an SDK/Devkit and licensing fees. Not possible for many. Medium audience XBLA: Not really lucrative anymore, ridiculously extremely large overhead (SDK/Devkit, large licensing fees everywhere, publisher required). Most of the popular indies here (who went for broke to even get their game on it) made much more money on Steam (which in comparison probably costed nothing). Medium audience WiiWare: No. Maybe eShop if Nintendo sells some more Wii U units, but WiiWare is a fantastical failure, Nintendo even has it set up where you can literally NOT get paid a dime back if you don't sell enough. A huge money sink. SDK/Devkit and licensing fees. Almost no audience in the first place and shrinking VS "Other" Venues: Android/iOS/Ouya/GameStick/PC/Steam: Dirt cheap. Can make a game with almost no overhead. Lots of cross platform tools and SDKs ranging from free to very affordable. Largest audience. As a reminder to everybody: They don't have to craft a game for "OUYA", and indies OR big budget companies can aim at ALL Android devices, or use cross platform tools to even start the game on the PC, iOS, etc. Not just OUYA. OUYA sits in the much larger Android eco system, and why this fact keeps getting ignored is beyond me. Why act like someone HAS to develop code that ONLY works on OUYA to make an OUYA game? It is not like a regular console in previous generations that has a completely new architecture that everybody has to relearn and write tools for (or an expensive Devkit or SDK to buy). If you aren't interested in the idea (Indie gaming console) then don't bother obviously. If you are REMOTELY interested: It is dirt cheap. I don't see the problem -

It is also the same spot on the Wii (Classic Controller) and Wii U (GamePad, Pro). Apparently people have only used a 360 controller and get confused when using anything else. Using a PS controller must throw them for a REAL loop. Kinda sad reflection on the reviewers adaptability and nothing wrong with the OUYA lol -
OUYA: A $99 Android console meant to open up console gaming
Crowbar Man replied to Arcana's topic in General Discussion
It is not splitting hairs, it is simply a factual retail price tag. And yes, you can preorder a OUYA right from their website: http://www.ouya.tv/ and it will soon be in stores to buy. I don't even know what point you are trying to make there. They have advertised their price for a while now Not retail you can't! Either way the PSP thing is your choice. Nobody is forcing you to buy an OUYA. However, the PSP isn't going to be getting a lot of new games though since it is at the end of its life cycle. The hardware is also weaker, games more expensive, no free to play stuff, and while you can get some indie stuff on it, its still not really a place for indies. (Has some homebrew if hacked if that counts though). Also as a person who owns one of the TV cables for his PSP, I can tell you it is not comfortable for TV viewing (also letter boxed sub 480p as mentioned earlier) GameStick, while slightly more portable, is weaker in hardware than OUYA and will probably not have as much support as OUYA. You really are getting less for only $20 cheaper. It is another neat idea though, and not really hugely different, so not sure why you would be pro for one and against the other. It really is the same basic concept, just even even smaller company trying to do the same thing. I'll probably pick up one of these too just for the novelty Dshu/Bahamut: There have been some issue with the controllers. Hopefully the retail model will have this all fixed, because the controller is obviously the most important thing for a console -

PSP sold at Retail is $129. A used eBay auction is not an official price tag. And no it doesn't speak ANY volumes in their confidence. It is just a simple Android port (which was an iOS port, which was a very enhanced DS port). It is also the only 3D FF game on Android game For some people having "Square" and "Final Fantasy" is important. I've stopped caring about those words long ago (and this platform is for Indies). Still, don't try to push off the PSP version as 1080p on a TV because it is not! -
OUYA: A $99 Android console meant to open up console gaming
Crowbar Man replied to Arcana's topic in General Discussion
As I've stated numerous times: OUYA is not for your AAA big budget games. It is an open platform for smaller devs with smaller budgets to flourish in a console space. It is an indie console. I do not get why there is a disconnect here However, I should note if a dev DOES make something of a larger project for Android, it would make no sense to NOT make an OUYA version as it uses the same dev tools and environment and is better suited for console-style games than most phones. Also anybody making a game using cross platform tools that support it (like Unity) would be silly not to release an OUYA version. There is a huge possibility here for easy cross platform titles being put on the console because of its Android architecture. If you are not interested in indie games, or the concept of an indie focused console do not buy an OUYA. Simple as that, no? But if you are interested in indie games, and wish to help OUYA for their cause, why not? Its cheap Dhsu/Lyrai: Like Dshu said: PSP version is definitely not 1080p, even worse it is in a tiny letterbox and sub 480p (480×272 to be exact) on a TV. and the PSP STILL costs more than the OUYA (the unit and even the game cost more) -
This company has a great legacy behind it. Its really sad the only two titles that had the Lucus Arts logo stamped on it last year was Kinect Star Wars and Angry Birds Star Wars. Those are its final games. Sad days
-
I guess that is subjective as to what you want from the game. If you are wanting a good story/characters, prettier graphics, better combat mechanics, etc it is technically far better than BS1 in those aspects. However, all other gameplay mechanics have been simplified down (or simply removed), and new annoying things added are in to make it a modern day shooter. Don't expect much but lots and lots of combat out of its gameplay offerings, and definitely don't expect any sort of Open World type gameplay. Its still a very good game despite not really playing much like the original, so as long as you go in NOT expecting it to be like BS1 (or even anything they showed off during development) you will probably enjoy it. Tons of people are giving it perfect scores, so its doing something right. Just didn't do much for me, but I'm a weirdo apparently so don't listen to me. Tensei: That is some unimaginative thinking if they can't solve that problem. The places don't have to remain unchanged either. In BS1/SS2 they were pretty necessary to continue through the game, solve puzzles, or get to certain areas, etc and told major portions of the story. They were also a little harder to find sometimes, and a lot more of them existed. In this game, a lot of them are just short clips of longer conversations that you have to go find the other parts to complete. Its completely optional to even listen to them, and there is maybe one or two that give info on a side mission. Pretty big difference. I have to play it like a military shooter. The game PLAYS like a military shooter. There is not much of a choice in the matter. You cant just use vigors to do the job. Most of them simply slow down the enemy for a second and then back to shooting. Either that or instantly kill them by throwing them off the edge of things if you are out in an area over sky, but then you miss out on anything they were carrying. I just use Shock Jockey (machines/people i got the chain effect) and Murder of Crows (people) 90% of the game since its the only things that seem effective. The Charge (brings you closer) and Tentacle (brings them closer) seem useless on larger enemies because YOU DON'T WANT THEM TO BE CLOSE. In the end, I'm pretty much slowing enemies down and machine gunning them 90% of the game while ducking behind chest high walls. Every once in a while they offer a sky rail for a change of pace, but then I just feel like a sitting duck or I can't see any enemies AND your vigors do not work on a rail so. I did start using the Water Tentacles push ability to instant kill during the scene when you were jumping from airship to airship because I just stopped caring about the combat at that point and wanted it over. Handymen are also rather disappointing, they just run at you constantly and beat on you and you cant escape or really sneak past them or anything. They also have no big impact on story and just show up from time to time. The one recording explaining one of them was sad, but beyond that it just seems like there was supposed to be more to them and it was probably removed. Same with Songbird, the game makes so many references to him and he was shown off in all the trailers. He isn't even in 80%+ of the game and I have yet to fight him (though I did not get a chance to play last night, maybe hes a final boss, I hopefully will find out today). but its pretty lame they showed both these off as kinda new Big Daddy type enemies and neither one turned out to be anything special to gameplay. The only one CLOSE to Big Daddy so far was those searchlight head guys who look like Big Daddy in the Sanitarium (a cool part of the game) but then upsetting him just leads to the area becoming a battlefield with tons of melee goons and he disappears :/

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
Crowbar Man replied to Global-Trance's topic in General Discussion
The Fox Engine is a scalable engine for current and next gen platforms. I believe it has been confirmed MSGV is for both 360/PS3. It doesn't mean the version we are seeing is the 360/PS3 version, or there won't be an even better version later for PS4 / Durango However, some of the in game footage and "action" sequences look like the effects/polycount drop a TON down to current generation levels, so the better graphics might be just for cutscenes :/ Should still be in realtime, unless Kojima has given up realtime and gone to FMV, but that wouldn't really show off the Fox Engine Either way, can't wait to see how this game turns out, big MGS/Kojima game fan myself Edit: Well, if it turns out there are two games, ONE is confirmed for 360/PS3 at least -
I'm almost positive that isn't a possibility, but since I can't go back to those areas since the game doesn't allow me to revisit any previous areas, I can't confirm without reloading a chapter from scratch. Guess I'll try it after I beat the game. If you can do that, I'm sure it is only because those areas all all DIRECTLY connected to each other, and only for a limited time frame. Once you go past a part of the story, access to those areas are gone forever. I did try to go backwards several times throughout the whole game but i was met with locked gates, dropped into completely new areas, etc over and over so I gave up. Maybe I missed one small section your refering to So yeah. Lack of backtracking The part with the 3 tears is the most "open" part in the game, but its way later in the game, and there is not a whole lot to do and most of the areas are destroyed. Its mostly just rigged for, surprise, more battlefields. I did like revisiting the destroyed areas regardless, but then that section ends. Also bugs me i can't see whats going on in those tears during that section, they are just glorified recordings My beef is that is IS a modern FPS. It wasn't supposed to be. There are ton of Open World / RPG style games out there, and before that "MetroidVania" or "MGS" style games where you can go to any place in the entire game. Again pointing to BioShock 1 and System Shock 2 as games made by the same team that have far more openness then this one. I don't really play many modern FPS games because they do nothing for me, so I couldn't tell you if a game is more or less open than Infinite. But I know Infinite is SIGNIFICANTLY less open then BS1/SS2 and many other games that it was supposed to be like, and far less open then it was advertised. It may have more openness then COD/Halo style games that are a dime a dozen. But is that really an achievement? It is a step backwards IMO compared to its history For a modern FPS, I would have to say it is doing well for itself. Maybe its pushing modern FPS forward a tiny bit. It just could of, and should of, been more than a modern FPS in the first place I don't recall saying the combat was better in the original. The original wasn't a combat focused game so why would it? It was even more focused on story telling (though much more indirectly, the recordings were actually useful for expanding the story), had a much slower pace, combined the games creepy and atmospheric setting. The game has challenging enemies you had to kinda solve like puzzles or just sneak passed because you were outclassed, along with actually having some small puzzles. The Plasmids were pretty powerful and useful in the game where I feel like im wasting my time using them in Infinite because the game just wants me to constantly move and shoot and the enemies rarily ever fall for the traps. There was far less ammo to boot making a small amount of resource management / survival horror going on. Every single enemy in infinite is just plowing down with the most powerful weapons (which are laying ALL OVER THE PLACE in the multiple battlefields you come accross) you can find while hiding under chest high walls and enemies ducking and covering "realistically" I was really mad when the ghost battle turned into HER SUMMONING MORE DAMN SOLDIERS and then just became duck and cover again. Same crap, graveyard was really a battlefield full of chest high walls I was literally thrilled, then quickly disappointed, just like everything in this damn game [/spoiler}Also yes infinite has many weapons which are all too similar and you can only hold 2 at a time :( So sure, Infinite is "better" in combat, if "combat" is shooting guns in an FPS. It more focused on that, because it is a modern FPS. There isn't much outside of combat going for it in the gameplay elements in Infinite. They've removed/simplified everything else! Overall I feel there was a huge potential here that was wasted just to satisfy modern "gamers", most who are satisfied with eye candy and shooting things. And by the awkwardly near perfect ratings the game is getting, looks like the scheme to sell more is probably going to work. Here is hoping someone else picks up the slack in this wake for a good Action RPG FPS type game, probably not going to expect much from Irrational anymore *hoping Cyberpunk 2077 turns out good
-
Brandon: Yes, I am positive I played both BS1 and SS2, they were wonderful games. I am probably going to beat Infinite this evening or tomorrow depending on my time window. BTW, I am not a fan of modern FPS games at all, especially CoD, which is why I am upset obviously Tensei: I do not subscribe to the believe you have to lower the gameplay to make your game prettier. Gameplay should always be held above all. Always The game doesn't allow any backtracking, let alone "significant". "Backtracking" is not being able to walk to the beginning of a segment of a small level, that is just sad :/ There is nothing "open" about the game its on a strict linear path, and one or two side missions and secret rooms is not "a lot" Don't advertise features the game is sorely lacking! Beautiful graphics and a nice story it has, Open-ness it does not. If all you are going to do is focus on story telling and visuals, a visual novel is a perfect way to do it. and would be less intrusive then having COD stuck int he middle of your presentation for no reason. Its an extreme example obviously, but think about it. You have a lot more focus on character building, story telling, etc.
-
BioShock 1 you could walk around all of Rapture at any point in time. There were only a few places you couldn't revisit, and only a few situations where you couldn't go back. But the vast bulk of the game you could explore everywhere. Same with System Shock 2 made in 1999 Being excited you can walk back to the beginning of a single small limited area is pretty sad indication how games have gone backwards instead of forwards I also avoided Bioshock 2 because it wasn't made by the same team and was a quick cheap sequel thrown out to make money for 2K. Its pretty inferior to the first game. I expected this game to be more like the first as it was made by the same team as BS1 and had a larger budget and in development for FAR longer. Guess I was wrong I do enjoy the aesthetics and the story, but with the OPPOSITE of what I like to play attatched to it ruins any of it. If they had made it an RPG, or a visual novel, or I dont know, an action rpg fps game in the style of Shock series like it should of been, it would of been so much better. Instead it looks like its catered towards the sad state of modern gaming to make more money: If you dont make the most generic FPS style gameplay you can't sell millions. Don't make anything that diverges too much from CoD, MONEY IS AT STAKE HERE But i guess if you don't mind playing modern style games, its probably not as big of a deal. I just absolutely hate seeing how games are these days, and this game ruined several years of anticipation Oh well.. here is hoping next gen stuff brings us out of this rut.

I'm probably close to beating it now, my opinions haven't changed much. It is a really beautiful game (artistically) with a decently written story, stuck in almost boring Call of Duty / Halo / Modern Game style game play. Recharge Shield? Check Two weapon at any time limit? Check Chest high cover in many locations? Check "Click button for better aim which centers the gun directly in the screen"? Check Character your playing as yapping all the time? Check Two different branches of weapon types? Check I mentioned before how the game was leading me by the nose with both pop up banners (and an optional navigation arrow), well, I forgot to mention Elizabeth also basically runs ahead of you where you need to go at all times, its pretty annoying actually because I feel like i am being lead through the whole game. That is three "GO HERE" indicators making the game pretty brainless as far as navigation is concerned. And no you aren't free to explore anything, if the game decides you can't go back you can't. You only really have access to a single area at any given time. The game is so straight forward, it doesn't provide you a GUI map because its not really needed. The rails system? Wow, they somehow make the game EVEN MORE ON RAILS instead of a new means to explore. Previews of the game made it seem you could travel to different locations on the fly as if the game was somewhat open world. Nope, you can just travel a short distance to different parts of the (limited) area your in. It can come handy in combat situations, and once in a while get you to a secret room, but sadly that is about it. There aren't anything I'd call "puzzles" in the game, all the hacking mini-games are gone for taking over turrets, there is just a spell to use for that and its barely useful to even use it Most of the Vigors just seem as afterthoughts. The seem to lack any power to them. Everything has a "trap" mode, but the AI is so focused on military style most of the time all the enemies stay under cover and never wander out into the traps you lay, even if you try to lure them out. The game only really is enjoyable when the action stops and it goes "oh right, uh, something creepy to make this kinda like a Shock game" or "heres a segment we will show off for previews/trailers" (seriously, a lot of the best cut scenes are ruined because they showed them off during previews, OR ALTERED/REMOVED THEM) But then you walk around the corner and oh boy, modern style shooter time. An obviously set up for gun battle location complete with chest high walls and waves of enemies pouring in. Everything you just enjoyed is ruined. I was extremely excited for the game to come out only to be hit with a very VERY large disappointment that everything the game was seemingly advertising itself to be is basically opposite of what they produced. Over all I would still have to admit it is still an enjoyable game, and had I never played BioShock 1 (or SS2), or if the game wasn't even labeled "Shock", or had they released NOTHING about the game, I would probably be enjoying it FAR more. But unfortunately, all of that happened Now if you dont MIND a modern style game, this is a pretty unique one out of the lot. I just wish it wasn't a part of the lot

So far I am not digging the modern shooter (CoD/Halo) style plastered all over this game. Nothing at all like System Shock 2 / Bioshock 1 which is heavily disappointing to me as I was looking forward to playing a game in the same style. Maybe it changes, but so far I'm being lead like a dog to each location, with big banners that say "GO HERE" and its just running a straight line with little exploration. I can't even go back to old areas unless the game wants me to. I wasn't expecting the game to be like everything else on the market so I'm a little disheartened. It is a pretty game at least

Well, I'm very excited. Wish it was 2D instead of 2.5D but at least those are some beautiful sprites. Can't wait to check this out! -
I like Retsupurae, who specialize in making fun of bad LPs. There are lots and lots of terrible LPs so there is plenty of material for them. The only LP I watch regularly is Game Grumps really, because I was a fan of both Egoraptor and Jon Tron before they made their own LP channel. As far as a point, well, whats the point of anything on Youtube? People make it because they want to and/or other people watch it. Obviously there is a huge following of gamers (or non gamers) who like watching people play videogames, so much that feature is being built into the next generation of consoles (at least PS4) and there are huge services like Twitch TV out there providing outlet for it. It can be enjoyable if the person is skilled or funny and if the LP itself is of quality. It can be enjoyable for those who aren't collectors and want to watch games they've never played and will probably never play, etc.
