getting rid of built in limiter
erineclipse replied to erineclipse's topic in Music Composition & Production
lol, windows 95, awesome thanks a lot for the advice, i knew fl had a built in limiter (or those other threads must have been lies. They were about recording using Audacity because fl export sounded different than asio4all and even the basic output and how you had to set the onboard mic to 23 or else there would be clipping.) -
intro- awesome main- nothing against acoustic, but that particular bit has been done to death, not really what i was anticipating vocals- horrible

finished revision of my first composition

Calum is right, there is a certain weirdness to your pieces, temporally. I can't really place it, the timing seems off somehow, I don't know if the tempo is off, the notes are too random or what. Also, he was right about the improv thing as well, there doesn't seem to be any global structure to your pieces, just random riffs that don't really mesh well together... the distortion guitar got really annoying after a while too... -
well the opening cymbal pratically tore a black hole into my ear, and im not sure which drum or synth, but one of them or a combination of them gave me a sensation of nails on a chalkboard. composition wise it's sick though.

Thanks for the review. I wish my soundcloud account was working, that way you could see the exact times for these things, but oh well lol. When do the piano parts seem too strong? Also, I'm not quite sure what "round" means.

the conductor sits in front and the center of the orchestra. anyway sound reverberates off of the wall, so it's not like the panning is going to be exactly 100% based on the relative locations of the instruments. There is a thread about this in Music Composition. -
very calm and heartwarming

getting rid of built in limiter

the bass starts off audible but once the fantasia synth comes in it completely drowns it out. worse is the loud cymbal completely mutes everything and even though it has a short decay the song seems quieter. -
FL export skips some notes
erineclipse replied to erineclipse's topic in Music Composition & Production
I exported a new song, and now the problem has arisen again. There's not even that many instruments, and at 0:30 the drums stop playing for an entire measure...this has become EXTREMELY ANNOYING and I may have to send a message at the FL forums. -
getting rid of built in limiter
erineclipse replied to erineclipse's topic in Music Composition & Production
i will keep that in mind. although, the limiter i am talking about can't be disabled from the mixer, I have a completely empty mixer and there is still some sort of limiting going on. i forgot where i found this out but it was googling for an unrelated problem, and i found a bunch of threads that said fl had a built in limiter. On a side note, how does anvil studio produce better sound without frequency and overlap problems when there are multiple instruments? -
How do you get rid of the built in FL limiter? It's really annoying, I want it to sound like anvil studio or your basic midi writer, I am using the simplest of sounds and they interfere with each other's frequencies and the due to lag or reverb the mix becomes quiet long after the interfering instruments are finished playing. I am not very good at EQ, can't I just have all the sounds add into each other I don't care about clipping? Also, this interferes with limiters I add to the mixer.

due to echoes and reverb isn't the actual panning a little bit different than just simple left and right distance from the conductor? -

tempo seems too fast and the song feels too crowded. also too repetitive. has potential though. -
For an epic journey, it doesn't have to mickey mouse an epic journey. The zelda song is pretty epic and it loops quite nicely. Also, songs can, and often should have contrasting parts in the song. How contrasting is up to you, sometimes it is tricky to get the right balance of contrast. For example, that song I showed you, after 0:45 it starts the contrasting part (mellow), but it is not that big of a contrast, later near 1:45 (Battaglia Coda) there is yet another contrast. Also, you may need to look into some better VSTs, if they are hogging your memory. Do you have Asio4all by any chance?
-
quite the opposite, actually, the more you loop it the harder it is to notice the bad stuff, if im not sure which, whichever sounds better to you i suppose.
-
simple? yes, some Zelda songs are more "simple": , its just your song seems more "metronome" and less fluid and such. also, he's right about the a minor thing.

a couple of online friends and I were discussing music production one day, and they said they complete the basic song outline all in one day. They also said, that's what the "pro's" do and said Bach and Beethoven, etc. did the same. They claimed that if everything isn't done in one day you will lose the song idea and the song will sound bad. what are you thoughts. do you think that great songs are made in one day, or it's just as possible to make great songs made over the span of several days?
