Sorry...I see that you see through my scheme. I just put that there to deter people from doing it, as I wasn't really going to enforce anything.

Please try to keep the game secret-ish. http://www.mediafire.com/?5bq5i55e2t2bnsc Anyway, the game currently has placeholder music right now. Looking for about 12 tracks, (7 level music tracks, a danger theme, and a boss theme, two multiplayer themes, and a credits theme.) Right now I am only looking for 3 themes, (a level theme, a danger theme, and a boss theme.) There are no rules, be as creative as you like, but please keep the filesize small and although you don't have to, you probably should play the game first. You can even collaborate with other composers (though you will have to share the winnings with them.) I've changed the contest. Instead of it based on a winning composer, each track will be judged individually. So if you submit a winning track, you will get 2% of game profits. If you win all twelve, you'll get 24%. There is no deadline, basically I'll wait until I find something I really like, and wait just a little bit longer to be sure. Since the full game is not complete, and if it was I wouldn't post it since it is commercial, the contest is limited to 3 songs for now. Once the full game is complete screenshots will be posted of the full game in order to provide musical ideas. Of course, ANY winning composer will get a free copy of the full game. Good luck!

FL export skips some notes
erineclipse replied to erineclipse's topic in Music Composition & Production
it is a sf2 soundfont, sega megadrive latest version, it plays fine before the render, which is the troubling part. also only the drums seem to do this. -

some of the ice rain parts near the beginning, mostly the high notes, are really hard for me to tell the pitch. -

At the very beginning, when the melody repeats it is too quiet. Maybe add a filter instead of making it quiet? -
finished Wonderland Adventures III: OST

beyond the stars was good quality, but repetitive, would work for an intro menu, the menu where you press start to get to the main menu. red desert was desert music. -
oh ok, got it, thanks

lololololol anyway games will never be realistic, they don't simulate the human eye enough and everything is scaled down so it fits into a TV. real life is much bigger.

i dont know, the music itself kind of paints a picture of a run-down dance club...the lyrics are kind of overkill imo...the rain thing was more like constant rain with a hint of piano, most songs have piano with a some ambient rain, but i guess its up to you. here is an example of me imitating the style of the first song, and me doing it somewhat better: also, here are some sample lyrics:-D: icy memories of the past cold and broken, shards of glass Will I reconcile the hurt Will I reconcile my heart

getting rid of built in limiter
erineclipse replied to erineclipse's topic in Music Composition & Production
sorry, i just have a thing, where i want it to sound good on all speakers, even on stereos with a broken speaker...i am afraid if i pan it, they will miss some of the song. Also, I'm not sure if I pan on the left or right, what emotions will it evoke. -

Well a NES synth and piano isn't that much different, when you get into the more futuristic synths with special fx applied and there's several other notes playing at the same time it start's getting harder. Also, my friends said it was abnormal, lol.. -

its hard though, if you don't have the right timbre its hard for me to determine what the notes are im trying to transpose -
I can't help it, I just LOVE those corny filli-ins... I think due to my EQ or some FL weirdness that I don't fully understand yet which is either no fault of my own or entirely my fault, that the song changes volume on it's own during parts. After all, I'm not too confident in FL, the song I showed you was recorded in Audacity, since FL couldn't even export the song without certain drum parts going quiet for several seconds, through no fault of my own. The synth distortion sounds slightly crappy on my stereo, but on my headphones...well it sounds nothing short of spectacular. And these are one dollar, dollar store headphones, mind you. The intro harmonies are supposed to have that futuristic, ambient, cool fifths feel, its not supposed to be evocative, its supposed to set a tone for the piece. What should I change in the transition? I like the synth sounds, but mostly it's because they are so recognizable and easy to work with. I've practically memorized every sound...when I am working with other sounds I have no idea how the sounds should be used or if they will mesh well together...also, I don't like to pirate things because of viruses...also i've never really found a library that I've liked, where I hear it and think "that fits my personality or vision." Nexus is on my to-do list but I am wary of pirating things. anyway thanks for the help.

i don't know, it was kind of creepy. the rain kind of drowned out the piano (pun, hehe.) I guess that what's you intended? The vocals weren't bad but they were, well, how shall I say it, a little too apathetic, even for emo music. he kind of sounded like he didn't really get enough sleep, kind of amateriush, and there wasn't really any emphasis on the articulation. no offense but the lyrics themselves weren't really that inspiring, but oh well. i liked song 2 because it reminded me off raptor: call of the shadows, an old apogee game for dos, that i played when i was a little kid. No offense, but i didn't really care for the lyrics too much, they just seem uninspired and didn't really move me emotionally. =P anyway, i don't want to take all of the fun, i'll let someone else do the reviews of the rest of the songs.

Making basic song structure all in one day

my problem is i have something in my head, but i have no idea what instrument i need or where i could get it, usually because its not in the preset library or is not free, or is just hard to find, or i dont know the name of it, or it is a layer and i dont know what combination of instruments i should use. also my knowledge of theory is not to the point where i cant just translate immediately, usually when i write it down on PC the emotions change due to timber, incorrect key, incorrect notes, and temporal anomalies. most importantly i get bored of the song in my head and it transforms into something else on paper... -
Please review. (Also, I like the texture of the main synth on my headphones =P
