  1. I'm done with mine... so what do I do with it now? Post here, send a PM with the link to DarkeSword or some obscure manner meant as a trial of courage and wisdom?
  2. Haven't read the whole thing, started working on a mix immediately, and did half of it before I realized I have a question: is there some specific theme or anything (styles etc etc)? Are our hands free or stuck in concrete?
  3. 3 things come to my mind: 1st: GTA: San Andreas 100% completion. It took me days and weeks even with downloaded maps. 2nd: Getting the "Order of Ambrosia" rank on FF 12. My save file was at about 320 hours of playing, and I beat Yiazmat, Omega, and got all Sky Pirate's Den awards. 3rd: Digimon World 3, getting all digivolutions and legendary weapons. If I remember correctly, the save file was at some 650 hours... Damn, I was a pretty lifeless kid
  4. I don't hate Kondo. Legend of Zelda soundtracks are awesome and way better than Mario.
  5. Yes, I said that. It's all simple human logic - the more popular the game is, more people play it, ergo more people hear the music, and among those, there are certainly some who'll praise it. It's just a matter of how many people say it's "the best music they ever heard". Only soundtrack I'll never think of as overrated is Chrono Trigger, but that's simply because of my personal attachment to the game. And don't get me wrong, I've played through all the games I mentioned, and I admit those are great games which have good soundtracks, but that's it, they're only "good". They don't deserve their current praise.
  6. I'll probably never remix huge franchises such as Final Fantasy, Mario or Sonic, simply because they receive too much unnecessary attention while real gems are often overlooked (in other words - because they're overrated). Also, any newer games, because in recent times, there just wasn't a game that impressed me.
  7. Link: http://tindeck.com/listen/qucs Did this in couple of hours while experimenting with FL's 3xOsc, anyway it's a remix formed of three "jewel" tracks Mitsuda composed: Le Tresor Interdit (which would be french for "Unstolen Jewel") from Radical Dreamers, Unstealable Jewel from Xenogears and Unstolen Jewel from Chrono Cross (talk about recurring motives lol). Synths here are really basic because I just started experimenting with it, so I may replace the leads with something better, depending on the feedback. Enjoy
  8. Layer some soundfont basses? But again, realistic bass isn't a necessity unless it has a longer solo section. Besides, real bass guitars have a lot of variation to the sound dependent on the guitar and the amp (for example I can't make a Yamaha and a Fender sound similar no matter what I do) so a vsti or a soundfont sound can probably pass as a real one.
  9. bumpity bump Been reworking this lately and I'm curious what the mods think about it. All the links are in the first post.
  10. Ok, the idea is nice, but the execution doesn't really do well. First thing that I noticed is that the way the remix is done makes it lack some general structure. While it's not necessarily a bad thing, it makes the tune somewhat less enjoyable. Rhythm guitars lack a bit more energy, I'd try double-tracking them. Synth leads are a bit too loud compared to other instruments at some parts. Drums could also use more energy, maybe try compressing them a bit more.
  11. CC was the game that got me into VGM so I guess it was life-changing game for me too. Thanks for the compliments
  12. I really like the style of this, especially the violin work. It could use an instrument in the lower frequencies (maybe adding a cello or adding bass notes to the pad) and a bit louder drums (or just the kick drum, as it seemed really quiet in some parts). Also, what are those small clicking noises in the section after the drums stop? Intentional or a side-effect from some instrument? Those seemed pretty off-place.
  13. Added 167 and 168 - Sergeant Zero from Terrahawks and T-Bob from M.A.S.K.
  14. Come here and take a tour of Dr. Neo's lab http://soundcloud.com/haki-1/dr-neos-lab-tour Wanted to keep this out of public until I complete it but I had so much fun doing this one that I decided to share it with the world, even though I only made less than half. Kinda fitting track for a science lab of the evil mastermind, I tried out some new tricks on this one which I think fit perfectly. Also I was testing out some drum soundfont I found, and Toto fans will surely recognize the drum loop from "Rosanna" in there . I hope I'll finish this as soon as possible ^^
  15. I believe I'm one of the rare people who don't like the original song (mostly because Glados' voice annoys me), but if this version was in the game, I sure would've liked it! The song style immediately reminded me of Reel Big Fish (which is a good thing from my point of view ). Can't wait to hear the finished version
  16. Tried to do everything as suggested, also I changed the synth on the 2nd lead, thought this one might work better. Enjoy
  17. Wow, this really is funky like hell, good work! I really like the bassline, but on the first glance it seems much like a midi - in my opinion, making pops differ from slaps (another sample?) and perhaps finger bass in the fast parts (before the synth bass kicks in) would make it more realistic. Synth leads really fit into the groove, it surprised me as I expected some guitar work there. Nice job overall, hope to see this completed soon.
  18. Edited the song a bit, and considering the lack of feedback, I decided to flag this for Mod Review, with all the necessary links in the first post.
  19. Is that a guy or a girl? And can't even understand half the shit (s)he says...
  20. Updated 24.02.2012: EDIT - Source tunes: Voyage: Home World: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZuBYlCV2j0 Le Tresor Interdit:
  21. Updated the links to the final version and set the tag to "Finished", hope you like it
  22. Wow, thanks for the positive comments, been working all day to complete the arrangement, now I just gotta finish up the minor details. While I'm doing that, you can listen to what I've done so far here: http://tindeck.com/listen/sfrc Couple of things I'd like to revise: 1. Seems kinda short, although currently I've got no ideas to expand it without it getting boring... gonna have to wait for a wave of inspiration. 2. Still having dilemmas over bass guitar vs synth bass - I really think that synth fits the tone of the song better. Gonna experiment with it some more. 3. Transitions from verses to the 1st and 2nd chorus are kinda bland, need to improve those a bit. 4. Drum patterns get repetitive at some parts, gonna make them vary a bit more.
