finished Jazz Jackrabbit 2 (feat. Super Mario 64)
cvramen replied to DaMonz's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I was going to say that 1:49-2:00 sounded too cliche for this genre, but you saved yourself by putting in those drums there:-D I would like to hear the melody from 2:50-3:04 repeated with the instrument that played at 2:49. Song starts smoothly, song ends smoothly. I'd rather listen to this than the original. *clap*clap* -
mod-review DO NOT feed the chao!
cvramen replied to SonicThHedgog's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
2:32-2:37 Really like the percussion whose sound ends abruptly in this part. The ending (specifically, the last nine seconds) was really good. I'm imagining what it sounds like with sticking Sonic saying "That's no good!" right at the end. (and yes I'm half-joking) (and yes, I can't possibly be the first person to think of this) -
finished Pokemon RSE - VICTORY ROAD Orchestrated/Piano Version
cvramen replied to leoniscaeli's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I'd throw in a second piano. For example, appearing in the song at various points, playing the same notes as the first. I'm imagining the second piano coming in at 1:09 - 1:15 and simultaneously playing the first piano's notes an octave lower. -
wip Final Fantasy VI Battle Theme - Symphonic Metal Remix
cvramen replied to gillstudio's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I've got to turn my bass up to max in order to get any appreciation of the bass guitar. Make it more audible- You've got something good here! -
Ya don't waste time on an intro- you just get straight to the freakin point! You don't flop around trying to end the song- you just end it! These are skills that are not abundant in the world of remixing. I tip my hat to you.

finished Dr. Mario (Chill) remix. (Submitted)
cvramen replied to CJthemusicdude's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Thank you for transporting my ears to the late 1980s. The idea of using that *sound* as a substitute for human speech with words- is a great one! It's been used in other genres, and now someone's brought it over to the world of video game remixes. Props. Synth you have at 0:23 got me hooked. -
Oh, oh "tribute", right. I could have sworn there was a separate sub-forum for that. Well in that case, yeah, as a tribute it's great, can't wait for that ending!

wip Pokémon RSE Legendary Battle ReMix
cvramen replied to AlmightyArceus's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
So glad I bough a subwoofer. My first impression is I've never heard anything quite like it. I like it a lot. At 1:40, the tempo increases and I don't find this necessary. It's still a good song, but I think the song would retain its great uniqueness if you held the original tempo throughout the rest of the song (or at least *most* of it). But hey, you can't please everybody. Real good, keep it up! -
wip Seiken Densetsu 3 Evening Star Re=arrangement
cvramen replied to NinjaFlute's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Love the strings you've got starting at about 1:40. The celeste playing the melody at 0:00-1:20 is pretty darn good. Try somewhere in that part, introducing an additional instrument, so that there are two instruments playing the same notes simultaneously, see what that sounds like. I assume you still are working on the ending. The ending would be better if you just had the celeste by itself and stopped the guitar part (is that a guitar?) before the last few seconds. -
wip Legend of Mana Mysterious Song Mix
cvramen replied to NinjaFlute's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Don't really like the part from 1:00-2:17; too monotonous. This is absolutely correctable in my opinion. Maybe throw in some progression of augmented/diminished/dissonant chords that occasionally resolve to a major chord or consonant dyad? Could you post the original source material? -
mod-review Killer Instinct - The Instinct
cvramen replied to Darangen's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
This is a good quality song. I'd let it though. I must say, this isn't really my thing (not really into the original source material either), I really like how you decided to end it. -
Sounds too much like the original. Perhaps this can be improved simply by rearranging the chronological order of certain parts of the song. Obviously the *instruments* sound much different. As for an ending, perhaps try an ascending arpeggiated minor chord and then end an octave higher than the root of the chord.

wip I Am Prepared (Remix of Pole Position Introduction Music)
cvramen replied to MandraSigma's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
After hearing the original for the first time, definitely some great potential for remixing here. At 0:06, you've got a rapid succession of notes which is fabulous! Then at the part that ends at 1:03, it sounds like you're building up to something big (but instead you just end the song). It would have been really fun if you had instead, thrown in another rapid succession similar to the one you had at 0:06. At 0:38, it sounds like you're going into the Pokemon Red & Blue Gym music (http://youtu.be/biLeC5D4S48?t=16s). Though, I'm probably just saying that cos I like that game a lot. Really good so far! -

You have accomplished the (what I feel is) difficult task of making this not sound too much like the original source material. Good work! -
wip "Head in the Clouds"- DKC2 Stickerbush Symphony Remix
cvramen replied to Mr. Gamma's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Version 2 is definitely an improvement. It's sounds too similar to the source material. The instruments are different of course, but "same song, different instruments" just doesn't constitute a good remix. I think it would be difficult to turn this thing around into something different enough from the original source material without starting back from square one. My suggestion would be to, at the melody, insert some harmonic chords. In fact, I think the song would be much better, if you started off the song doing the main melody at slow tempo with just piano, inserting a few harmonic chords at appropriate places. -
finished The Pokémon Whistling Song - Pokémon Mystery Dungeon
cvramen replied to ad.mixx's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Love the variety of instruments. Little things like the celeste at 1:03 and the harmonica at 1:41 really keep my ears aroused and I want to hear the rest. I am a fan of variety, and you delivered. At 2:44, you've got the harmonica playing a succession of notes that's been played by the piano for the whole time (up until that point) and then that succession is finished by the piano. A very explicit switching up the functions of instruments- this is something that doesn't appear in songs enough on ocremix! We need more of this. The ending is fine, don't worry about it. Get an analog piano and record it, get a different sound sample, whatever you have to do, I just think something can be done to make the piano sound better. -
wip Small Wonders (Cave Story-Moonsong)
cvramen replied to Exterminatus Extremis's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I'm gonna second most of what Snow Taradien is giving you. I like the percussion that shows up at 1:02. I think you could throw it in at different places, but switch up it's tempo. -
finished Maybe Next Time~SuperMarioWorld Game Over Rmix
cvramen replied to Rukunetsu's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
How could anyone listen to the "game over" song and *not* think that this was intended to be material for a full-length song? The mix is repetetive, but of course there is plenty of room to fix this. A route I would strongly recommend is switching up instruments for the melody. Maybe a sax? -
mod-review Super Mario 64 - Dire Dire Dawx
cvramen replied to Chiwalker's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I want to thank you for isolating all of the sound effects directly from the game in one place. Some people think you can just put sounds from the game arbitrarily all over the track, and easily come up with a good remix. I would listen to this track as-is. Good work. -
finished Final Fantasy 13 - Gapra Whitewood Metal
cvramen replied to shawn2point0's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Thought I was listening to a Gradius remix for the first few seconds. Your piece could benefit from some variations in tempo and percussion throughout its entirety. At 2:00 you did this, but just didn't take it far enough. I think this piece is salvageable. -
Love that part at the beginning where you just pound our ears with that electric guitar. Coming in hard like that isn't always the best choice, but for this, it was very appropriate. I would definitely download this. Agreed. But I think not doing it conservative would be a little risky.

finished "Star Wolf Theme" - Star Fox 64
cvramen replied to DaMonz's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
The percussion was out of the ordinary (this is good). I thought changing the melody at the end to some kind of "victory music" was a great creative choice.
