  1. One thing I think you could look at is the piano at 1:48 (and throughout, though it is more at the forefront for a bit there). The notes and timing all sound wonderful, but it just sounds a bit dry. It could use a small touch of reverb or even a slight delay maybe, just to give it a bit more colour. Maybe tweak the velocities just a tad to make it a bit more human as well. The chords throughout are pretty nice though, its mostly that small arppegio part. Also the lead at 1:14 + 1:52, its just a bit shrill at times, perhaps it could be EQ'd a tad. Dig the bass and beat, love the various little elements that you've added throughout. The glass sounding things are a real nice touch. Spot on trumpet solo from C7 also. Sick mix overall.
  2. Done and submitted! I went with something kinda sorta dance/trance/whatever you call it. Hopefully ya'll like it!
  3. I sequence all my arppegios by hand. Its the only way. Almost done my song PH, aw yeee.
  4. You know, I was gonna do funky jazzy somethin-somethin but I've opted for yet another different direction this week. So far its going pretty swell. Need to flesh out some transitions, and add in a couple more sections, but its slowly solidifying.
  5. Oh no, how will I be able to beat everyone in Indy? D: I must find a secret weapon!
  6. Sucks that I wont be able to watch the live stream because of work. But when I get home, boy I'll have a lot of news to sift through. I think Nintendo's conference has a lot of potential, so here's hoping! (Also, fingers crossed for an HD F-Zero)
  7. Yeah he's really fun but the grace period on his ult currently is just too forgiving. With it gone, people can't be QUITE as reckless with him. The bleed nerf is great too. Though he still packs a huge punch with his Q, I dunno if they'll be touching the numbers on it at all. Still he'll be in a much better place I believe. I tried out Draven on the PBE also, and he's pretty fun. Catching his spinning axes is an interesting mechanic, though it can be tricky in frantic situations.
  8. I released a sort of ambient / chillout album last summer, which may fit what you're looking for: http://amphibious.bandcamp.com/ I see Boards of Canada was recommended earlier in this thread, and I have to agree. It is some pretty chill stuff. I'd also recommend an album called "Chillout Lounge" by David Arkenstone if you can find it. It has had a big influence on me, and I love to listen to it when I'm feeling mellow.
  9. Sorry for the double post, but its done and submitted now! I've received many helpful comments from a lot of different folks, and as a result I think I've got one of my most polished works to date right here. Thanks so much to everyone, hopefully all goes well with the judges panel!
  10. No idea what I'm gonna do yet either, but it should be fun! I am excite.
  11. I am quite surprised with these results. Thank you sir, it was quite the battle! Oh boy, Hill Top Zone, lock and load.
  12. These mixes and this voting is too intense. Two in tents, I say.
  13. Its been a few days so I'll have another listen to that shaker. It is supposed to be just sort of supplementary, in behind everything else, so I'll see if I need to bring it back a bit or tweak the EQ a tad. This will probably be one of the last things I look at in this mix. Thanks for listening, I am glad you like it!
  14. I'll take a look at the piano part, maybe tweak some of the velocities and timings just a tad. Any other comments/critiques out there? Otherwise I'm thinking it is about time to wrap this one up.
  15. Thanks a lot for the comments. I decided to just go ahead and remove the shrilly bells in the bridge section. They're used in the chorus too, but when they're more isolated and not much else is going on they did sound quite out of place and a bit irritating. I added some very small changes to the drum patterns at the end. There's an altered fill and a couple extra cymbal and snare accents. Its subtle but having just a bit more to it was a good suggestion. I could try to change it further, but I kinda like it how it is, personally. Still, any additional opinions are welcome, even if I may decide against it. I altered a bit of the mixing to see if I could get it at least a little louder. I do see what you said about it being a little quiet, though its something I suppose I still struggle with. I'm hoping I didn't screw up the balance with the subtle changes I made, but to my ear it all still sounds good. I still have the version without the slight mixing changes just in case. I feel I'm almost ready to send it off to the judges, but if anyone else has anything to say please don't hesitate! Updated mix: Here
  16. I've finally got some time available, so I'm working on this again! I changed the lead sound, and I made the trumpet solo just a bit louder in the mix. Subtle stuff but I have set this to mod review so I can hopefully get some feedback from a mod and hopefully get around to submitting this. (That is the plan, anyways!) Feel free to leave any thoughts or concerns.
  17. Same to you Sir Benjamin. They are indeed awesome source tunes!
  18. Just submitted mine. Gotta work tonight and tomorrow morning so I had to finish 'er this afternoon. I think its a'ight. Hopefully y'all enjoy it.
  19. I'm a little over 2 minutes myself, but I'm definitely not done. Gonna sleep and work on it before / after work tomorrow to hopefully finish it up. Need to record some more sections, and probably re-record some of lead guitar. My lead skills certainly are Rusty. Get it? Rusty. Rusty Ruin. Yeah. Sleep time.
  20. Yo yo, I'm workin' on mah song. I'm realizing how terrible my lead guitar skills are and regretting going in the rock direction, but hopefully it'll still shape up decently.
  21. I must say I did dig the funky treatment you gave to Rusty Ruin. It's a great style for that theme A good battle, sir. Hopefully we will see more of you! Alright Ben Briggs. Whadaya got? WHADAYA GOT? (Probably a sexy mix)
  22. Gotta CTRL + V dat password. That's what I did. Was on skype with 5 other friends but only me and one other were able to get in tonight. The rest gave up in favor of sleep. Fun times!
  23. I made the guitar decrescendo because the higher notes sounded much louder than the lower ones. In retrospect I screwed up the balance a bit, but I also didn't want the guitar to shine too much since the other melodies come in at that point as well. It was a tricky part to mix, and I'd have probably worked on it more if I had more time But I'm glad you liked the arrangement!
