  1. I just don't like that you have to be connected to play. I know I'm not the only one with a sometimes unreliable internet, SimCity has always been a pretty chill game to play whenever. I do like that they're adding some cool multiplayer aspects, but I dunno. This DRM stuff is just silly sometimes.
  2. Man I loved TERA when I played the open beta before it released, I just didn't really have the time to justify the subscription fee when it released. I may try to play again now that its free, even if I wont get to play much. I loved playing a tank in this game, it was so fun and felt really rewarding.
  3. I had a Genesis and no SNES Played dat bad boy every day, I still play it more than anything! Of course all this Wii U news makes me wish more and more that I could afford to get a Wii U. Yarn Yoshi looks absolutely charming, the new Xeno game looks so crisp and awesome, E3 this year will no doubt be exciting on Nintendo's end. Perhaps when the semester is up and money starts rolling in I'll be able to pick one up. I may try to hold out for a price drop (though if its anything like the Wii that will take a few years )
  4. Hm alright. It was just a small house to start out as I didn't plan on making anything huge there, but I suppose a more permanent area would be better when I do want to build something cool. My bad for not claiming a spot first! Sweet, thanks!
  5. That guy used to make RPG Maker resources back when I dabbled in it, and also an RPG that I played. Pretty cool to see more recent stuff he's done! I tried to find that Terra skin but I couldn't I finally decided to start playing on the OCR server after being whitelisted like, a year ago. There are some god damn impressive things you guys have made! I found a nice spot away from stuff to situate a small cabin to live in.
  6. </3 I suppose the arrangement was what I was most concerned about. I suppose the intro is quite long for such a short track, and I bet I could have fit some more in before the Hill Top "chorus"-like section comes in. I'll have to rethink some of the arrangement. Its been a while since I worked on this so maybe with a fresh mind I'll get some good ideas flowing. Thanks for the helpful comments! Bone Shark is probably my favourite arrangement wise, but the production isn't great and I also want to rerecord some of the lead guitar (maybe even some of the rhythm) because I feel it could be better. I do plan to revisit it some time, though it could take a while since I'm still learning a lot about rock production. I don't quite know what you mean by the weird gaps at the beginning. The bass pattern has some quick cut-off notes and the like but that's about it. It does go between major and minor at times, but the bass during the Hill Top section at 1:02 uses all notes from the major scale. The "weird gap" at 1:26 is not the end of a phrase, just a beat where I cut out the drum track. Regardless, the section from 1:02 - 1:33 is 16 full bars, I just broke up the rhythm intentionally by dropping the beat. It sounded convincing enough to my ear but I'll take a look at it. I will probably rethinks some things a fair bit with this. I'm happy with a lot of the sound design (though I will rethink that as well, maybe to make it less static with some additional instruments coming in during different sections), the arrangement does need some work, and there have been some helpful comments. I may have to put this on the backburner for a bit while I finish other projects but hopefully I'll get it done soon. Thanks for the comments errybody!
  7. One of the big things about the game is that people can drop in and out for split screen pretty much whenever, I hope they do keep that for the PC version. Its still a great game overall, but that would be silly of them to remove split screen.
  8. I'm no expert on this stuff, but: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_domain See the section called "Relationship with derivative works" When something is public domain it is free to use, that's why there are so many Shakespeare films and the like. A lot of classical music is sampled and used in modern music as well. I'm sure there are some exceptions to this though, so research into particular composers and works is probably a good idea.
  9. So I've been meaning to look back at my remixes from the Sonic Zone Remix Compo and see if I can polish any of them to try and submit. This is the one I feel has the most polish at the moment. Remix: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5510766/Amphibious%20-%20Oxidized.mp3 Sources: Hill Top (Sonic 2): Rusty Ruin (Sonic 3D Blast Genesis): I'm pretty happy with some of the arrangement, the bass hints at Hill Top throughout even when Rusty Ruin is more dominant. I feel there could be some mixing issues, though I've tried my best to polish what I could. I fixed the kick a little since the competition, and did some subtle EQ changes. The arrangement overall is pretty short, and in this style I'm unsure of whether that is a bad thing or not. To me it feels complete even if it is on the short side, but I'd like some opinions on that. With all the projects I'm working on now, I don't have a whole lot of time to devote to this, but I'm hoping to get a clear idea of whether this is worth submitting or not, and I will do some touch-ups if needed. Anyways, yeah! Any feedback is much appreciated
  10. Oh, you see, when I pressed CTRL+F and searched for "Fat Chocobo" it yielded no results. Alas, I did not see that he had become a fat "Damn Ass" chocobo! I wanna leave it open for now but I mean if a little ways down the line no one takes it, by all means I'll see if there is room in my mix for such a fat chocobo.
  11. I notice the removal of Fat Chocobo. It was a pretty short tune, and I was going to propose that if no one wanted to claim it, I may be able to find a way to use it in my mix, since it IS chocobo related after all! I'll consider it if that sounds cool, though I can't guarantee I'll make it work. Just throwing it out there though!
  12. Shucks, I started a remix of The Boundless Ocean for that Freshly Baked thing a while back that I'd love to finish but its already claimed! Things are going well with my other project songs so I may want to claim something. I'd love to try my hand at the Chocobo Theme.
  13. I haven't forgotten about this! I finally got a start on my track yesterday, its SUPER bare-bones right now but I am going to do my best to have it at least somewhat developed by the Feb 1st deadline. I may try a different direction from what I have currently, but if I can make it convincing enough I'll keep at it. We shall see.
  14. Not bad, not bad. Some comments: - The build feels entirely too long, at least for what it does. I feel you may need to add elements into the song a bit quicker, or fill out the buildup much more to justify its length. I think a build not much longer than a minute would be sufficient myself, though if you can make it more convincing that's not a bad thing at all. - The actual transition itself is a little off, there should be a bit more oomph to it, perhaps with a bass slide, reverse crash cymbal, some kind of sweep, there are lots of little tricks you could use for a transition into the beat. (As stereotypical as my suggestions are, play around with it though!) - The beat itself is pretty solid, some of the instruments you use in that section feel a little dry, and perhaps don't fit very well with your other sound choices. Particularly that lead that plays the small motif at 2:16, 2:20, and continues on. It needs to settle into the mix a bit more, either with some EQ or perhaps changing the sound itself or choosing something else. - The little percussive effects you add in throughout are a nice touch. If anything the beat overall does feel a bit weak so finding a way to make it more punchy without muddying the mix would be awesome. Someone else may be able to give some better mixing tips. But this isn't a bad start, and there are some good sound choices (I particularly like the pad/key sound you use throughout, as well as the bass, though the bass feels too sparse). Think about the build and the transition some more and see if you can figure out a more convincing solution. Keep it up!
  15. I've got a small list: - Release an original album. - Fully update my YouTube with my most polished songs and remixes. - Finish all my musical commitments to projects and the like. - Save money as much as possible (not buying any games until Animal Crossing, and then none for a while afterwards either) - Drink less pop / eliminate it from my diet entirely. Lets do dis!
  16. Yeah I need to do this too. I've already decided not to buy anything until the new Animal Crossing, and after that there is nothing I plan on getting for quite a while. Time to start plowing through my backlog (after working through some musical commitments, of course).
  17. Super Climax Heroes was the most amazing fighting game I've ever seen. More Kamen Rider is always welcome.
  18. Back in Canada and I miss you all, you're all wonderful and super awesome. I had suchhhhhh a great time, but gosh darn am I tired. First day of school ahoy!
  19. I got Professor Layton for 3DS, The Last Story for Wii, some clothes, candy, a hardcover Sonic comic book, an external hard drive, and some cash / gift cards. Used a bit of the money to buy Dark Souls on Steam also. Good stuff!
  20. I remember someone saying there is a shuttle from the airport (*EDIT - Shoulda specified, Reagan National) straight to the resort, but I dunno where or when that was said. Is that still a thing? I'll be getting in at around 10 on the Thursday morning I think. If someone is conveniently nearby around that time a ride is cool too (Though airport traffic is shit), but if there is a shuttle then that would work swell! *EDIT 2 - Figured it out. The shuttle should work fine but lemme know if anyone out there is willing to give a ride.
  21. Yo snap I love Shinobi III. It is one of my favourite Genesis games, and up there in my top games of all time even. While I wish more the soundtrack would get more love (There's only 2 Whirlwind remixes on OCR thus far), this is a sick mix, and Whirlwind really is a fantastic source! Good stuff DusK.
  22. Anybody remember the first video game song to win a Grammy? It was the main theme from Civilization IV, which is a strategy game with randomly generated terrain each game and very little in the way of story. A game score doesn't need to be "story-drive" in order to be phenomenal and considered worthy of a Grammy. *EDIT - I realize its an individual song rather than a full soundtrack, but I stand by my point.
