  1. It's not a favorites thread, the point is to try to discuss games we may have forgotten. The thread isn't really about "remakes" more like "re-launch". Like what they did with MVC2 by releasing it on xbox arcade and such.
  2. The only thing I ever wanted from Santa was to take a look at his naughty and nice list. That way I could find out where all the (legal) bad girls live.
  3. You make lots of great points and provide quality advice with guitar. To date, the whole acoustic/electric thing is the only point of yours I disagree on. I was merely using that as an example to the other user that it is in fact possible to disagree with someone regardless of credentials. You know I love ya and your music Snaps. Anyway, this thread inspired me to youtube some amp sim tests. I like this one. You can definitely convince people of having the real amp. I swear one of those first riffs is from an Exodus song.Meh, maybe I'll fire up Guitar Rig again. Yes, see this whole time people thought I was just hating without owning. They're wrong. I haz Guitar Rig 4 but it goes to no use considering there is an amp on my left. Perhaps I shall try combining amp sim and real amp......
  4. What classic would you want to see on the xbox arcade or PSN etc (that is not already on it) so you could play it again with your friends without the need of an emulator? For me, it's this
  5. Lara Croft wasn't relevant again until Legend. That's when I started caring about her once more. Now, the same basic appearance and prince of persia styled gameplay got old. However, I'm super stoked for the reboot which changes up her look quite a bit, different gameplay and a new story. Thus making her relevant once more. At least to me. Sonic is still sonic. If he's not in a Sonic 1 clone or some mediocre 3D game, he's in some game no one cares about like Spinball or Sonic Battle. Mario's in the same party games, sports games etc. Megaman I can't really say since he's my most hated game character. Tomb Raider, Ninja Gaiden, Mortal Kombat, Civilization etc are still relevant series in my opinion because they actually change, evolve and improve and let the past be the past. Rather than shove the same games from 10-20 years ago with slightly better graphics down our throats. Sports games being the worst offenders of that. I might just be a bitter jack ass though. I don't like Zelda, Final Fantasy, Call Of Duty, Chrono Trigger, or Halo either.
  6. Snappleman is also the guy who says it takes more skill to play the same electric guitar phrase on acoustic guitar. When pros and amatuers alike who've played both are likely to disagree with him. Just because someone has more experience with a particular thing doesn't always make them right. Because here's the thing....IT IS AN OPINION. If I had a dime for every opinionated retard, pro and amatuer, who thinks every solid state amp sucks, I'd be rich. Most people aren't politicians but are still allowed to have an opinion on politics. I hate amp sims less in the tone department and more because I don't feel they're worth the money when you can buy for just a bit more a great sounding REAL amp that you can also use on stage, to jam with your friends etc. You can't just easily load up amplitube anywhere. Also, assuming someone isn't a talented musician because they don't have a OCR artist profile or a link to their official website on the standard OCR is a very dangerous assumption. Because while OCR does have some extremely great music on it, it also has some complete shit. But again that's an opinion. Even if you're wrong and a dumbass. You still have the right. Look at me. I'm a dumbass all the time.
  7. Amplitube, Guitar Rig. There is almost no reason to buy guitar amp sims like Guitar Rig when for the 300$ something like Amplitube will cost you, you can buy the real thing. Sure, maybe that won't get you a super high-end Engl head but you can definitely buy some quality solid states and even a few tube amp combos with that. Check out the "blackheart". You can (or at least you could at one point) also buy a Peavey 6505 combo for 600$. For me that's really not a tough call. If you're in an apartment or wherever you can't crank it up, go for something like a POD.
  8. Don't know if it's been said but. I remember there was one in Sphinx and The Cursed Mummy (such a good game) towards the end. You're playing as the Mummy and there's a cutscene followed by a door and a save point. If you don't continue on immediately after, like if you shut the game off and then return, you're fucked. The door becomes permanently sealed shut and there is literally no way to fix it.......you have to start over.
  9. So...to get back on TOPIC I'll be honest. I haven't given a damn about Sonic since Adventure 2 for the dreamcast. When I was a kid, I had a friend who was ADDICTED to Sonic and whenever we went to his house after school he borderline put a gun to my head and made me play sonic with him. He had every game on the genesis. Still does. Sonic 1-3 and the sonic & knuckles games were great but everything else was pretty much crap with the Adventure games just being "okay". Looking at some stuff for sonic generations and trying the demo a few times. I just went "meh". Sonic's relevancy has fallen to basically zero. Like Megaman and Mario.
  10. Last I checked, recording twice with the differences in performance is what creates that wall o' sound and the stereo image. Copy/paste/delay is the haas. Which isn't as good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLdkR5Nv0w4 Double Trackin'. Makin' heads bang every where since the invention of metal and stereo.
  11. It is double tracked actually. Tempo is off yeah. I didn't properly adjust buffer rates and stuff but I just said "meh". I just threw it all together as quick as possible to show you guys.
  12. Yeah the bass frequencies and everything else was boosted straight to hell in that sample. Symphony X uses a mix of stuff. Mike has a Engl Fireball he uses. But live he usually has line 6 amps. Good suggestions all around Mak. I'm not sure why you think I'd have trouble translating what you said. It's in English. Which is the only language I'm fluent in.
  13. Hey sup. OCR really isn't a place where most game devs. look for composers. There have been some people who've gotten noticed through OCR and been picked up by some developer but the numbers aren't high. OCR is for sharing your works, primarily remixes with other VGM fans. If you're looking to get picked up with an indie company, sites like devmaster and indie gamer forums offer places to post such ads. Anyway, on the subject of your actual music. I think you have some good tunes and it seems like you were going for a chip tune type feel but to be honest....the drums are extremely weak in all of them. I'm sorry but they lack punch or any kind of power and are generally very un-inspiring. A lot of the sounds in general are also pretty basic. The greatest offender of this is IDK22. Also, for ambient music, I think you'll need much better and dynamic synth pads to keep the listener interested. Bottom line, I think you have good songs. If you're happy with the way they are, then great. But I think that with higher quality sounds, the tracks would be way more polished sounding. There may be some game devs out there that would be looking for chip tuney stuff, but I think you could really impress with better drums and synth sounds. That's just my opinion though.
  14. Technically harmony occurs whenever multiple pitches occur at the same time. What they're recommending is learning about the different kinds of chords and how you can make them from scales.
  15. Well, it's definitley a damn good song. However, your drums are way too loud. The melodies also sound very distant and quite. I can not clearly hear it at all. Perhaps the piano has too much reverb or something? Like I said, it's a great song. I just think if you balance the volumes out it'll really be great. I like how you've thrown in some real nice choir and how you used both acoustic and distorted electric. The metal sound is great fun to listen to but it can be very limiting musically. You worked around that though! Excellent
  16. Thanks. Well.......strings are part of an orchestra I guess lol. I wanted to use Sitar, but I know of no one who plays it. I also can't seem to find decent samples/soundfonts for one.
  17. A cool behind the scenes video about the making of the E3 trailer! The composer directed the violinist via skype! That's awesome. http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2011/07/06/behind-the-scenes-of-the-tomb-raider-trailer.aspx
  18. Thanks man! Good points, I have lots of orchestra samples but I stuck with just strings. That was a bad move lol.
  19. Is it necessary? No, but there are no true rules. In orchestra, pizzicato strings are quite popular for rhythms. You can use contrabass etc. Chromatic percussions like marimbas can play basslines too actually. Check out my Arabian Nights, Orchestra cover. http://tindeck.com/listen/hlpl I just have one bass. The timpani follows the bass line quite closely. But for most of the song, there is no Timpani. Experiment!
  20. Dude that is SICK! Awesome work! I'm actually not too crazy about lots of the lead tones though. Still very cool idea and I loved the sound effects of the worms' voices
  21. Yeah so I made an orchestra cover of theme song from the Aladdin movie. Tell me what ya think.
  22. Like I said, I play both too. Nearly a decade. With electric, noise is harder to control. There are also techniques that are often used on electric that are not as effective or easy to do on acoustic. The top 12 frets isn't even a challenge for most players with a brain. One might be more uncomfortable to hold for a little while, but you get used to it pretty quickly. "You have to be a better player to pull of the same phrases." That's BS dude. They're both the same instrument in most aspects. The big difference is less in how they're played and more about how they produce sound. If You suck at one, you suck at both.
  23. Pops, clicks etc is due to incorrect settings. Not the interface. If you use firewire and it performs the way you want it to, perfect. If you use USB and it performs the way you want it to, perfect. Thus, the argument of Firewire > USB is a matter of preference.
