  1. This track is going to be part of the Speeding Towards Adventures: Sonic the Hedgehog 25th Anniversary Album (http://ocremix.org/community/topic/38162-speeding-towards-adventures-sonic-the-hedgehog-25th-anniversary-album-recruiting/) Remixer name: Jorito Real name: Jorrith Schaap Website(s): YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/Joeirot Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/jorito Userid: 3899 Remixer name: Final Kingdom Real name: Britney Blevins Website(s): Twitter: https://twitter.com/Final_Kingdom Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/final-kingdom Userid: 24495 ReMixer name: Furilas Real name: Mac Hunter forum id: 17903 ReMixer name: Tuberz McGee Real name: Callum Kennedy forum id: 25576 ReMixer name: Azzykay316 Real name: Az Khan forum id: 33005 Submission information: Name of Game(s) Remixed: Sonic The Hedgehog Name of Arrangement: Speeding Towards Adventure Names of songs arranged: Green Hill Zone Link to the remix: Comments about the mix: Jorito: I originally missed this album initiative on OCR entirely! When I noticed that Eino Keskitalo had to drop his claim on Green Hill Zone, I immediately jumped on the opportunity to remake this track, a classic of the Sonic series. Actually also the one Sonic track I remember best from playing the game with a friend on his Sega Game Gear. Since Green Hill Zone has been remixed a gazillion times already, it was hard to to try to add something new to it. Inspired by Pharrell William's song "Happy" I thought a upbeat vocal pop track in that style might just work. The initial midi mockup was finished quickly, but for this kind of track midi ain't good enough. So I went on a recruiting spree on the OCR forums, starting with the vocals. I luckily found Final Kingdom willing to sing on the track, and she also was a tremendous help in the lyrics. It was also a good excuse to team up again with my regular collaborators Tuberz McGee on guitars and Furilas on bass. Last but not least is Azzykay316, who offered his services as a drummer on the forums and really made the track groove and the drum solo rock. Many thanks to my temp band mates that were so cool to hop on this adventure with me and really make the track shine. I hope we managed to give a fresh take on Green Hill Zone and that you'll enjoy it a lot! Final Kingdom: This is my first collaboration on- or offline, and it was a great experience! I learned a lot about recording dos and don'ts and how to contribute to someone else's vision while still maintaining my own style. I've become more confident in my singing, thanks to Jorito's absolute faith in me delivering a good performance. Because the Sonic series holds a special place in my heart, I'm glad that my first contribution to this site could be this ReMix. Furilas: This was fun. I'll be pleased to groove along to it as I drive down the summer highways of Colorado in my Mustang convertible, both of which Jorrith said he'd pay me with. What a sport! Tuberz McGee: Jorrith called me in for the Strumma Strumma and I had a great time. <3 For a sonic tune that I groan at whenever I hear it, this is a really fresh take on it. It's cool stuff. I love working with Jorrith, his arrangements are so dope and always find myself groovin' to them. This is no exception. Plus, that B section with the 3, 3, 3, 3, 2, 2 subdivision is soooooo cool. No way I could pass that up. Enjoy!
  2. Cool ideas here. I like the combination of both themes and the concept of doing a hip-hop style chill mix. Unfortunately, it is the mixing that is tanking this. The lead timbre is so dry and plain and piercy. I like the occasional bends, but the sound itself needs some modulation or effects of some kind. The lead at 1:10 by comparison sounds too wide and reverby, but still quite plain and vanilla. The backing chords are played by a simple timbre that is also too dry and doesn't provide much harmonic glue. The track features one drum loop that repeats relentlessly. There is no sidechaining so whenever the kick hits together with the snare, bass, and everything else, there is audible distortion. The bass is muddy and indistinct. Basically this is a cute little track in desperate need of a mixing overhaul. NO

  4. Omg ok screamo. I find this neither simple nor clean, but that's beside the point! The arrangement is conservative enough that I have no issue with source. The synth leads all sound a bit loud compared to the rest of everything, they stick out just a little. The screamo vocals are a bit pushed into the background by comparison to the synths, but I'll be honest, I'm glad. The looooow guitars and drums are performed and mixed well. Damn this track is relentless. How do you still have a voice left over after performing these vocals? This isn't my genre for sure, but I can't find much fault with this, screamo-heads will enjoy this just fine. I love the bit of Dearly Beloved in the outro. YES
  5. Hello! This is my first time ever submitting to OC Remix, so I just wanted to give a bit of background information. My name's Steven, but my project is called Got Item!. Got Item! is a Nintendocore/post-hardcore project where almost everything that I release is original. However, I plan on releasing a few remixes of some video game OSTs. For this first one, I had a close friend from another band help me out, so I want to credit him in the track title moreso than the artist listing. For the people who enjoy metal and a bit of scream vocals in their musical library, I'm for them! My track can be downloaded here: And here's the info needed for submission, if you have any questions or comments, please let me know. I hope to hear from you guys soon! ReMixer name: gotitem (would like to be credited as Got Item!) exclamation point is part of name. 6. Well I absolutely LOVE this and it is very well done. My only complaint is the hard panning of the occasional solo violin on the left but it's not a big deal and actually it fits this concept well. Drums could be a bit more prominent. I adore music that gives an odd uncomfortable feeling, and wow that dream your wife had!!! This is the perfect soundtrack to that dream. I especially love the out of tune piano, both the melodies and the occasional slam on the keyboard, and the glitching. A bit repetitive, yes, but cool all the way through. Nice work. YES
  7. WOW these vocals/lyrics are wonderful. I agree the instrumentation is a bit too sparse and too far in the background, and the choruses could have been differentiated better, but regardless, damn this is fine. YES
  8. Wow, minimalist is right! I think the bubbling sounds ok but doesn't really evoke "beach." I agree with Gario's "in the lab" description. I would have preferred some light surf sounds. I love the unique chords after 2:00. This is soft and relaxing. Honestly I would prefer a few more elements in this mix, but what's here is really well done. Sure, let's go with it. YES
  9. What an awesome idea, I'm in love with this idea! It is a tad repetitive, but things are added as the arrangement goes along, and the concept is fun enough that it doesn't bother me. The instrument volumes are mostly balanced well, although I agree the piano can be brought forward more. Reverbs are tasteful, and the overall volume is just right. The mixing is pretty tight too (other than the aforementioned piano), although hard panning (one instrument playing right, another left) isn't my favorite, and it can be disorienting on headphones, as it clearly was for Larry. Make sure if you're hard panning that it isn't too severe (do 20% right instead of 75%). The dealbreaker here is unfortunately the humanization. You are using instruments that absolutely have to be humanized to sound good. The strings, piano and especially the lead accordion MUST be humanized. I agree with Gario that the accordion lead needs some automated vibrato, not too extreme and not all hitting at the same point, it will need to be hand automated to sound like a real person played it. On the long strings what is mostly needed here is volume swells, CC11 expression is the best thing to automate. The long notes should rise and fade in volume gently and naturally, and again they can't all sound the same, gotta be done by hand one at a time. Otherwise it just doesn't sound natural. The staccato bass is fine I think. The drumming is also rigid, but it fits the style; a couple more subtle crashes here or there would add a little bit more interest to the drums. The backing accordion needs some velocity variation between the notes, you'll need to go in and randomize them so they don't all sound the same, and don't just do one bar and copy/paste the randomization pattern. The piano will need the same treatment as will the harpsichord and the quick string notes. This kind of automation isn't always easy to do and there's a lot of it needed here, but in this case will be worth the effort. I hope you do it and send this back because I love it! NO (resubmit)
  10. The acoustic guitar is indeed too loud, and not just in the intro. The kick is very quiet with not much low-end while the snare is loud but too woody sounding, too much midrange body. I agree that the bass is doubling the lead instrument often (or, the other way around? either way it's a doubling of the note and it's not a chord, which is what Gario was pointing out). I'm finding that regardless of this issue which occurs here and there in the track (and I don't find this doubling to be as problematic as Gario does), the writing ends up sounding pretty jumbled and random sometimes, for example 1:08-1:23 is sort of awkward to me, same with 3:00-3:25. The fast arps don't always sound tight enough (might be the attack on the organ sample, or maybe that the mix is just so busy), and the drumming being sometimes off and/or random does not help this feeling either. It's a busy and bold source choice, perhaps this adds to the level of difficulty in remixing it. I think I'll be happier once the mixing is fixed (quiet kick, woody snare, too-loud acoustic guitar). NO (resubmit)
  11. Agreed totally, this makes my YES much stronger too. This track has really gotten under my skin and I have been listening to it a lot and it's in my head at other times as well. Now it's even better, yay! It's in my favorites folder of course. Yay for Zelda dubstep!
  12. Let's hold up this vote until I ask Brett if he wants to revisit the mixing. This song MUST be posted! It's soooo good. But I agree about the mixing and the piercy moments.
  13. What a short and repetitive source tune. I have to say kudos on making a remix that keeps those 46 seconds of source interesting and varied throughout. The arrangement could have used an original section somewhere that went a little further away from the source, but that's just a suggestion. The track gets pretty loud and almost overwhelming during the wub breakdown (hits -5.5db RMS at that point) but otherwise the production is pretty darn tight. I like it! Your video is ace, too, really nicely done! Kirby-step indeed. YES
  14. This is my first submission to the site. I've been making music remixes on YouTube featuring Synthesia for quite some time and now I think it's time to share them with this community. I'll start with my latest and greatest stuff and work my way through the rest if I'm accepted. My remixer username is glitchman161, my real name is , my email is , and my YouTube channel URL ishttps://www.youtube.com/user/glitchman161. The game name is Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards for the Nintendo 64. The song I remixed is the World Map theme: (https://youtu.be/QySO39GPGnE?list=PL65674D59A772CAE2).The title of my arrangement is Interstellar Action. The original composers are Jun Ishikawa and Hirokazu Ando. I also made a nice music video on my YouTube channel if you want to check it out:https://youtu.be/vUOXSoJoS2E Nobody has made anything like this before! Hope you like it!!!.
  15. I remember this track. The issue was source use. I definitely hear more this time around, although I still think a timestamp will be helpful. The production is really nice and tight and the arrangement is interesting. Dem jungle drums. I'm going to have to check the source more closely, but assuming it is enough this is an easy pass. Super cool stuff. YES (assuming enough source)

Last time there were concerns about the melody not being close enough, so I think I managed to get it closer to the original this time! I also changed some of the synth sounds, added to the drop, and a few other details that came up last time I submitted.
  17. Mix is a bit mid-low heavy. Whoa, those distorted leads, they are tortured! Leads and piano are just a bit too loud and could have a bit of the low end eq'd off. Ok so this is a 3/4 source and the remix is in 6/4, which is disorienting at first, and the drums are keeping essentially a 4/4 pattern for an even more strange feel... but I love it. This is such a unique adaptation of this source, it is unsettling both in the rhythms and the timbres used. I feel like the distortion especially on the leads is a bit heavy-handed but I think this is a stylistic choice to convey the Torment, so I get it. Snare could be louder and snappier. Tasteful wubbage. I like the varied filtering. This one is really resonating with me. YES
  18. I am submitting my remix of Midna's Lament from Twilight Princess, I have named it The Torment of a Twili. I will link to my soundcloud where it is posted as well as attach an MP3 in the proper format/quality. The quality on soundcloud is 44.1k/16-bit but it is a WAV file, as it makes the upload more consistent in volume and representation. If there is anything more needed that I didn't manage to see or skipped over in the instructions then please let me know! Thank you for your time! 19. Starts out really suddenly. What the heck is that whapping sound? Is that the snare? It doesn't sound timed right in the intro or again at 1:39. When I can hear the snare clearly, I absolutely hate this snare sound. The kick is barely audible especially during the rolls. Kick and snare are too quiet, the rest of the percussion is fine. The guitar work is good. The mixing is ok, not awesome. I'm not sure on this one. Arrangement is good, plenty of source. Fadeout ending, blarg.

We didn't really care about the legal issues (as we split up after the release), and we wanted to create a version that payed homage to the Tristram music, while still holding the essence of Canadian Black Metal. I hope you enjoy P.S. Shaitan is Arabic for Satan/The Devil/Diablo
  21. This is a good source, and a bold choice to remix. The instrumentation sounds a bit forced and unnatural though, and the soundscape sounds a little lifeless. Drums (snare mainly) are too quiet, dry and centered. Idunno, what do you guys think? edit: Reading Gario's vote, he articulated what I was thinking, beautifully. Gotta agree pretty much in full. NO

I grew up playing and loving the Sega Genesis version but the theme music for the Super Nintendo version had higher fidelity and was much more enjoyable. I made my decision: the song I wanted to remix was the theme song to Populous. Then I looked up what the original song sounded like. I found out that the game originally appeared on the Amiga and was composed by the legendary Rob Hubbard. After soaking in the original version of the song and listening to some of Rob Hubbard's other music written on the Amiga, I started writing the ReMix. I completed the introduction in the notation software NoteWorthy Composer. This gave me the foundation to transfer and finish the tune in FL Studio. I wanted the piece to have a lot of power, have the sound of a real orchestral performance, and be very percussive. I believe that I have accomplished what I set out to do. I hope that you enjoy this piece and that you will let me know what you think. Thank you OC Remix for the many awesome years of wonderfully remixed video game music.Let me know if you have any trouble accessing the mp3 file.Sincerely,Christopher Schmenk
  23. This is very different from Joe's usual stuff (and the remix could not be any more different than the source than this!). That said, the writing and arrangement are actually conservative, but it is completely transformed here. The track starts out VERY quiet. The writing is mellow, almost too mellow for me. I like the vocal samples. The humanization is good overall. Reverb is heavy yet tasteful and appropriate. The track has an Enigma feel to it, it is meditative, I gotta give it that. I like it. YES

When I pulled up the tune to listen to it, I was a little put off. The source tune was really only something like 20 seconds long; it has only a few bars of melodically significant stuff going on, and the repetition within the source itself doesn't really have a lot of room for interpretation. Then I looked up Booster (having not played the game myself) and kind of thought that his story was a little tragic. So, instead of trying to do something complicated with it, I wanted to instead radically simplify the already simple. It sounded like a weird idea, but I think it ended up working. I wanted to go for something meditative and unlike anything I've done before. A man can only klezmer so hard.
