1. Not any particular suggestions no. It just seems sort of static. Rozovian hit it on the head. And I'll give you this, the transition out of starman was good.
2. Gotta say. I love that. Especially the SMB2 overworld theme and the SMB subterranean theme interjecting every so often. Starman kinda threw it off, in my opinion, but that's just me. The dynamics could use some work, but the arrangement, sans starman, is really good. So kudos on an awesome mix.
3. I know this game. I love this game. And it's nice to see some mixing. Except it's too close to the source material, even as an early rendition.
4. I tend to agree. I think if you took into an fully orchestral mode on the second time through, with some cymbals and some other percussion, it'd be a lot less repetitive. And don't be afraid to play with the source material some either.
5. Ah! Much better. Not so hard on the ears as it was. But yeah, the arrangement is awesome. I love the trance-ish jazz style, and the sax. But I think if no one has commented on the arrangement, it might be okay to assume that you did a good job with it, especially if they forgo that to comment on the production issues. Speaking of which, the cello could go a little softer still, and the fade-in intro starts way too soft, methinks.
6. I like it, but it needs work with the dynamics. Right now it sounds very bland dynamically-speaking. But it's a nice pop-rock, and the transition into Chrono Trigger is smooth and excellent, as is that section at 2:45.
7. Okay. Seriously. That's a really nice jazz-oriented piece. I like the intro, with the ticking clock, and then the trance vibe. Your stop-watch effect comes in a little late, I think. and that cello solo is too loud. Need to soften it up a little, same with the piano. But I absolutely love that saxophone! The transition out of the piano solo is really nice too. But unfortunately that's where it ends, and so must my critique end with it. But diggin that saxophone.
8. Like I said, still needs work on dynamics. But I love the arrangement. It takes the source material and bends it, warps it, and makes it your own. But for the love of all things musical! DYNAMICS.
9. Tried, it. Liked it. Seems like its a user-friendly version of FLStudio. Not to mention not as huge a program to run. Great for people with dinosaur computers like me. Still new to it, though, and still learning the ins and outs.
10. I'm actually self-taught for the most part. The most music theory I learned was the really rudimentary in 1st through 3rd grade music class. After that, I was in the junior high and high school choirs and I learned some more basic stuff there. But I tend to listen to my favorite composers and arrangers (and remixers) and incorporate some of their style into mine. The results aren't that great, as of yet, but I'd like to think that I'm improving. Not that I wouldn't like some formal educating on that subject...
11. I personally love the arrangement. Slow, kinda like a demented carnival carousel. Simple, somewhat spartan at the beginning, but still something you can bob your head to. Reminds me of Bradbury's book, "Something Wicked this way Comes". The intro was phenomenal, as was the end. There's really nothing bad that I could say about this.
12. March I wrote for a brass quintet, named after my childhood home. Also sort of a memorial to my dead grandfathers, who served in WWII and Korea. It's short, but pleasant, and if anyone feels they can do better than me with it, feel free to give it a shot. Free MP3 download: Grande Valley March.mp3
13. I disagree with DarkSim. It ended perfectly, me thinks. You did well incorporating everyone's suggestions, too. The strings sound so much better. And, if I didn't mention it earlier, I love the guitar. I hope to see this officially added to the OC Remix archives sometime in the near future.
14. It gets better and better every time I hear it. DrumUltimA brings up a good point about the glockenspiel, though, which I didn't notice before. He suggests tubular bells, but I don't think that would quite fit with the ensemble you have right now, though you might try the vibraphone. It's got a nice, natural reverb on it with a really deep melodic tonality. Compare that to bells, where the tone is harsh and very sharp sometimes. Very nice, though.
15. Love the Latin-sounding guitar in there, and the strings flow very nicely, though the lower bass strings sound somewhat midi-esque--if that makes any sense. The quality of them isn't very good. I would have upped the volume on the glockenspiel and maybe done more with it. Maybe a second playing a counter-melody or something like that. And maybe make the percussion a bit louder as well. I do love the arrangement though.
16. Definitely a Work In Progress, as it just cuts out at about two minutes. It's supposed to be a dark sounding movement. I tried to utilize the low brass and the strings as best I could, but there's a small compliment of woodwinds that I also incorporated in there to some extent. It's to the point where I could really use some constructive feedback. (Don't tell me midi sounds suck or that I need better software, I know). What I don't know is where to take it now. So any feedback on that front would be much appreciated. And don't mind the silence at the end of the track, that's just the program running through the empty measures. Free MP3 download: Coram's Theme WIP.mp3
17. Okay. I really liked the interlude that starts at about 1:50. The arp bass is heavy, but maybe needs a bit more thumping. Loved the synth leads as well. Drums at the beginning sound way to mechanical. But I admire the simplicity of the arrangement--it has a vary spartan quality with industrial overtones to it. The vocals are crisp, clear and fantastic. Normally I don't like vocals in my music as a general rule, but it honestly sounds like a Weird Al parody. Over all, lovin' the vibes.
18. I've been working on each movement out of order, as it wasn't originally supposed to be more than just the one. But it sort of expanded out of control and now here's what is deemed the first movement. Going with the motif of the first one, this here would probably be dusk. It is a nocturne, something evocative of night. So it's quieter, focuses on low strings and a few loose wind instruments. And it has a decidedly arabesque feel to it. 19. Yeah. The problem is I have no musical training. I don't even play an instrument. I'll go back and rework it as soon as I find the time. And as far as I know, Finale does take plug-ins. I'll have to look into that too. But thanks for the feedback, it does help.
20. I'm not sure I can help, but I know the feeling. I lost a mix of the same theme about a year ago. It was big-band/orchestral and I've searched high and low over the net to find it, with equally depressing results. Have you tried any music hosting sites?
21. I did this a while ago using Finale 2010, as I do for all my musical endeavors, meaning midi instrumentation. It is the third movement in a series of pieces. Kind of a Dusk, Midnight, Dawn motif going on. This one would represent "Dawn" as it is a fanfare type piece. It's finished as far as I can go with it, though one of these days, maybe I'll have enough musical experience to write it up properly. It's here for feedback, critical comments and the occasional roasting. Tell me what y'all think of it. Free MP3 download: Elsa Theme 2.mp3
22. Really, I'm just looking for some feedback. The mix has gone as far as I can go with it, and it is done in Finale 2010, so midi instrumentation. Went with kind of a beat oriented synth for the background, and it takes up the melody briefly in the beginning. It could probably use some work with dynamics, too. But we'll see what y'all have to say about it. Feedback is appreciated. Source: Remix: Free MP3 download: Corridors of Time.mp3 Note: I do not plan on submitting to OCRemix's main site. I'm just here for feedback.
23. Fantastic remix. I like the steel drums you've incorporated. Should prove to be stupendous mix when it's all finished.
24. The lead is far too quiet, and probably too soft as well. It ends up getting all muddled up into the background.
