OCR03375 - Sonic the Hedgehog "Sonik Cosmotronik"
Trinity Dragon replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
It's a great mix, very creative. But it's very disconcerting to hear this particular song, especially in the upbeat, synth style, transposed to a minor key. Not saying it's a bad thing, but it has a very haunting sound to it. Which, I think is ironic given the source material. -
finished Sim City (SNES) - Title Theme Remix
Trinity Dragon replied to Best Dude55's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
It's really happy-go-lucky. Loved the piano intro, too. Great mix so far. -
OCR03256 - Super Mario Land "Seven Pipes to Heaven"
Trinity Dragon replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Honestly, if I had never heard the source material, I would never have known that there was original composition in there. It was strung together so seamlessly. -
finished Corridor of Time (acapella/instrumental)
Trinity Dragon replied to rhapsodos's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I really think you've hit upon something good there with the voices and the piano. It's light, airy, and it really gives you that sense of mysticism that Zeal was known for. It did sort of cross a line for me with the percussive elements though, and the production quality is lacking. But that first half is beautiful. -
OCR03014 - Sonic 3D Blast (GEN) 'Enigmatic Melody'
Trinity Dragon replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I love that swing beat that comes in after the intro. I've never actually played 3D Blast, so this is the first time I've heard the melody. Arceace did a really good job here, though. -
OCR02898 - Chrono Trigger "Lost in Time"
Trinity Dragon replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Oh my gosh! I've been waiting forever to see this mix posted. I loved listening to its evolution in the workshops. And I disagree with Palpable: the piano solo is a nice contradiction to tone down the richness of the rest of the piece. -
OCR02878 - Sonic the Hedgehog "Childhood (Act 2)"
Trinity Dragon replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I enjoyed it. But now y'all got me curious about Childhood: Act 1. Kind of a cruel thing to do to the curious: post the second half but not the first. -
finished Me and Mario Down by the Schoolyard
Trinity Dragon replied to Geoffrey Taucer's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I love that. It's got this happy-go-lucky feel to it and the acoustic guitar is great. Can't wait for updates. -
When I was a sophomore in high school, I went to a concert. They played a suite called "The Aquarium" by Johan de Meij. Best music ever. It's been stuck in my head ever since.

I think the intro is a bit long, but I love the dance/hip-hop groove to it. Kinda has that tropical vibe to it. The various melodies flow smoothly with each other as well. I think the synth could use some more texture though. A little wobble, a little delay, a bit more with the dynamics. But overall, it made me smile. I like that dark interlude as well at about three minutes as well. It's a nice change up, and keeps it from getting monotonous. The alternation at this point between major and minor modes is really nice as well. The change at 7 minutes feels a little forced, in my opinion--much less smooth than the earlier progressions. And while I'm sure you know this, it ends rather abruptly. You could probably leave it at the seven minute mark and add just a little bit of a redux of the original theme to finish it off.

Okay. First up: I like the delay effect and the bass humming in the background. To tell the truth, it reminds me of Front Mission. I'm not sure it's as drastically different as you're aiming for, though. You might try easing up on the percussion in the latter half--it sounds overly synthesized, and I think that will count against you when you submit. Also, I would try changing up the lead and the choir in the background. I do like how you played with the melody at about the 4 minute mark. But overall, it lacks the sort of personal touch that a great remix needs.

finished oh boy, another Corridors of Time remix
Trinity Dragon replied to Argle's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I really like this. The soundscape is very reminiscent of the original, but it's still unique. I love the percussion too. Kudos. -
wip Corridors of Time celtic-ish remix
Trinity Dragon replied to Ivan Hakštok's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I love the intro. I love how it fades into being, with the low drone-note. Very well done. But the percussion that comes in at 57' is off-setting and doesn't do justice to the flow of the piece itself. One thing about Celtic styled music is that it has smooth percussion, usually something with a deeper resonance too. What you're using in this is far too choppy. The same can be said for the bass as well. -
finished Sonic The Hedgehog: Technical Difficulties
Trinity Dragon replied to MannieFresh555's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I think your biggest problem is the lack of dynamics. I love the transitions and the textures, but it sounds flat without varying the volume. Fade-ins and fade-outs and the like. But I absolutely love the concept. It's a fantastic idea. -
finished Sonic 2 - Mystic Cave Zone [Glitch Hop]
Trinity Dragon replied to Feyhd's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Must pump up bass. What you have now is a good start, but you need something down and dirty. And you might try toning down that buzzing background synth in the process. As it stands, that's drowning everything but the melody out, so that there aren't any details. I'd also vary the leads a little bit more. -
finished Mythic Mist (Mystic Cave Sonic 2)
Trinity Dragon replied to PirateCrab's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
It lacks dynamics, making it run together. Love the tempo changes though, and the improvisation. -
I like it. It's a nice dub-step rendition that I think is unique. I like the beginning, but you might try going softer on the chip tune aspect and then crescendo as it progresses. I hope to hear more of this though.

I think you might want to incorporate more of the source material into this. It gets lost in the improvisational components. But, personally, I think its a great take on this particular theme. The intro and ending, I think are pretty well coordinated and the sound effects are a nice touch, brings back some nostalgia.
