  1. Ah, I'll only be half a state away. Say the word when this becomes part of their regular tour, or they do it in SF (Tommy loves the SF Philharmonic!) and I'll do my best to make it.
  2. I've only ever used REAPER (and Rosegarden, which doesn't count), so I can't compare it to any others, but its free "trial" is unlimited and uncrippled, so there's little reason not to try it (paying the $60 for it does nothing but get rid of the nag screen on startup). It doesn't come with any samples at all, but it supports VST's and many plugins. Not sure about export to game engines, I don't know anything about how that works.
  3. Technically there's no such restriction. However, a brand-new forum member with an all-caps name starting an uninspiring contrast when there's already a major RPG one in the works, and compo participation has been low lately anyway, is not going to get any participation. Hang out for a while to get a better feel for the community and how things work around here before you try to start something like this up.
  4. I've been enjoying New Super Mario U. Since I didn't want another copy of Wind Waker, it was a no-brainer, but the Assist Mode co-op is a lot of fun and really takes advantage of the tablet controller. I can't speak to the traditional co-op, though.
  5. Definitely hyped! I'm experimenting with new sound techniques and listening to new types of music for inspiration. Trying to find an area I'm actually strong in this time! Also, trying to figure out what the hell to do if I get paired with Covenant or GLL. They both chose low-melody music, which is hard to work with, but they're both amazing remixers, and I'll have to do my best to stand a microscopic chance....
  6. I almost skipped over this, until I saw hakstock's comment. Until I did, I thought this was going to be 8-bit remixes of either the game or the band "Journey." Although if it was the band, this would be the wrong forum.
  7. If you don't get anyone else, you can do what Brandon did for the FFCC, and throw in a 3-way round against a "boss," and the best two move forward. In fact, this works more naturally for this compo than it did for his.
  8. Were you using "Save As?" Dropbox links have to be followed first, then you get a download link. It's confusing because the URL ends in .mp3, but it's really an HTML page.
  9. It normally costs $70, but it's free to try on Steam until Monday morning, and it's also the Humble Weekly Bundle, along with several games it was used to create (including the must-play To The Moon), and a ton of extra assets. If you've ever been interested in making a 16-bit RPG (or RPG-like game--it's possible to create Zelda-like games, not to mention interactive stories like TTM), or ever think you might be interested in doing so, don't miss this. If nothing else, it'll give you a chance to put the music you're making into an actual game! http://store.steampowered.com/app/220700/ https://www.humblebundle.com/weekly
  10. I got a 21MB mp3 that doesn't play. Are you able to play it before uploading it?
  11. Replicated in Chrome for Ubuntu, but not in Firefox, using middle-click instead. The reason is because clicking on a "mixbox" causes the target page to be loaded, so if you click on an a href inside a mixbox, the event is triggered in addition to the link being followed. For some reason, in Chrome, the "click" javascript event is triggered on a middle-click, but in Firefox it is not.Edit: Ah, Anorax ninja'ed my research. Also, while trying to hunt this down, I found an "Uncaught ReferenceError: showMascot is not defined."
  12. I borrowed a Genesis back in the day, played the hell out of Ghouls 'n' Ghosts and Phantasy Star II. I maintain that Ghouls 'n' Ghosts is the best game of the series, mainly because it's less insanely hard than either Ghosts 'n' Goblins or Super Ghouls 'n' Ghosts, but it also had great music and level design. Phantasy Star IV has been on my to-play list for almost as long as I've had a to-play list....
  13. It's a hard track to cover with just two hands on a piano. Given that limitation, it's a good cover, and I like how it gets a bit original at the end. You should rename this thread, though. You won't get many clicks without putting the game and source in the title.
  14. The later Ratchet & Clank games have some significant RPG elements. You level up weapons as a function of use, you gain HP by killing things, there are money and shops. I don't see how it's less of an RPG than Zelda (although personally I don't consider Zelda an RPG, many people do).
  15. Do the whole thing in a monotone, autotune it, apply your mad production skills, and you'll probably still win handily.
  16. ArrrPC vs. RawrPC: Pirates vs. Monsters!I ranked a pirate Hero, but not high on my list. Good on you all for violating my expectations that villains and Square would be overrepresented.
  17. To quote the FAQ: Which is silly, but catchy.
  18. It's early yet, but I think you probably win both "Most Obscure Game" and "Hero theme that sounds most like a boss battle." Great choice, I really want to see this reach the finals!
  19. If you do decide to trim it down, you could cut out one of the loops between 1:38 and 2:34. The third iteration of the four was the least interesting to me, and that was the section I felt was most repetitive.
  20. Amazing production, a very enjoyable adaptation. But it is basically a medley of covers, and the judges will probably reject it just on those grounds. It's also so ambitious in production that it feels really short. Orchestral scores, like this one is trying to be, are usually very long. My personal advice would be to take what you have and add more personalized content to it. For something like this, 6 or 7 minutes is probably not too long.
  21. Soo... many... good... choices... I tried my best to stay away from Squaresoft games, but damn, they really do have the best music. Several tracks from Wild Arms just barely missed the cut. I did get Lufia II in my #1 spot, though.
  22. Interesting that you don't want these public. You realize there's a higher chance for conflicts this way, right?
  23. Or, what you'll probably have to do, which most remixers do, is learn how to produce it in a DAW with samples.
