  1. Well, you don't want to sing it, just do a chanting growl, ala Dethfrog. Also, I suggest everyone who is antsy for this to come out should take the time to listen to the full OCR back catalog and all previous albums. That should tide y'all over until the release (also, you're likely to find an awesome piece or two you didn't know about).
  2. As I recall, the hook for Virt's opera piece was something to the effect of "rock opera inspired by Queen". I hadn't thought it was possible for me to be more excited for this album before the Kickstarter went up, but that did it.
  3. Have you been around here for other album launches? This is totally par for the course. Granted, they set an estimated completion date a lot earlier than is normally done, but it's completely typical to get a loose release window out there, then take months until it actually releases. If I recall correctly, Serious Monkey Business was kicking around a 2009 release date at one point (albeit well before final WAVs were in). That album didn't release until March of 2010. Like zircon said, there's a lot of work going into this project by people who have day jobs and families, so delays are to be expected. I'd rather everyone takes their time and puts out a quality product, rather than rush to meet deadlines. Especially having donated money to the project. I've been waiting 8 years for an FFVI OCR album, what's a few weeks or months more?
  4. So you think that they are "playing it safe" by making the game in a style that fans have been clamoring for, but hasn't been done since 2005, and one that the type of narrow-minded people who think that "great" games are only stuff like the latest Call of Duty deride as "out-dated", rather than making it another 3-D title like Skyward Sword, the very game you just finished ranting about? I feel like you haven't really stated your case at all and what you are saying is just a thinly veiled attempt at justifying your own irrational prejudice against the top-down, 2-D style gameplay. Quite frankly nobody has seen enough of the game to be able to judge its gameplay at all, so deriding it for design choices at this point is absurd and a clear indicator of bias, but beside that, 2-D actually has more potential for creativity because you aren't hampered by as many camera and control requirements and you have so much more overhead to work with thanks to reduced graphics needs (which I feel they are squandering with the unimpressive 3-D models, but that's a personal art preference thing and hardly an objective criticism of the game).
  5. I would be excited for new IP's from Nintendo if they didn't already have a bunch of great, mostly neglected IPs already. I'd rather they spend some time making some great new Donkey Kong and Metroid stuff.
  6. Really? I must have missed where they announced Super Metroid, Donkey Kong Country 2, and a Final Fantasy V remake (ala III and IV DS) for 3DS. Oh well, I guess they have to save something for E3, right? Edit: Wait, that sounds really bitter. I'm only slightly bitter, honest. I'm excited for the new Zelda, cautiously optimistic about the new Yoshi's Island (hopefully they learned from the mistakes of the DS game), and hopeful that Earthbound finally releasing means they're considering releasing Mother 3 in the west.
  7. I like that infographic but I'm curious how they define a mile of code. I assume it's supposed to be "if printed out in one continuous line" but at what size? What's the kerning like? How much space between lines? So many unanswered questions! You could probably make the source code for Zork cover 631 miles with the right print settings. Also, I really wish I hadn't peeked at any reviews for this. Just the summary made me want to start playing now. Work tomorrow is going to be the longest day ever.
  8. Oh, no question the original had great graphics. But they're mid-90's graphics. I'm talking modern lighting, hi-res textures, 3D models, the whole shebang. And the mod is fully customizable. Want to play the game as it originally looked with an engine that actually runs on Windows NT framework, you can do that too. Personally I like playing the game with something that actually puts my modern graphics card to work.
  9. Man, I had the exact same experience with the PS1 Descent port. The good news is the PC versions of Descent I and II are available from GoG. And there's a pretty great modding community to modernize the graphics and engine too.
  10. I dunno, the kind of LP I like to watch (other than stuff like ) tends to be less about the actual game and more like a cross between a podcast and gameplay video. Stuff like Game Grumps or Two Best Friends Play are fun not for actually watching the games (they're often not very good) but for the dumb conversations they have while playing. It nearly perfectly recreates the "hanging out with friends, playing games" environment of the pre-Halo days, when you'd either pass the controller around, or just hang out and heckle your buddy as he fails the same jump 20 times in a row.Edit: That said, I think watching the TBFP Revengence videos are infinitely more fun than actually playing the game would be. Pat's way better at the game than I would be and their enthusiasm for it all is kind of infectious.
  11. Oh, my apologies, I shouldn't have presumed. (And I was making a joke about interminable OCR album delays).
  12. Yeah, but what about after that year? He needs it to still be in effect when the album is released.
  13. So, just to be clear, this has nothing to do with Zircon and McVaffe's "Echoes of Eternity"? I've been waiting for that sucker for nearly 5 years now (I assume it got bumped for this bullshit FFVI album)!
  14. Hey, that's awesome news. Both that it's finished and that it's getting "published" relatively soon. Looking forward to B&R even more now!
  15. Fun, but way too short. I guess that's the point of a demo (give 'em a taste and leave them wanting), but it would have been neat if the demo had been an entire small chapter, maybe even a side-story sort of thing that would tie in to the full game, but in a way that it wouldn't really be missed by anyone who didn't play it.
  16. Oh yeah, Harmony of a Hunter has an a capella medley on it too.
  17. While not OCR tracks, Deia has a few on her site (plus her Jiggly Choir piece on The Missingno Tracks). And then there's Virt's pieces...
  18. Aw sweet, I've had this piece in my Christmas Music folder for years and, every time it comes up, I think, 'this is great, shame it's so muddy sounding.' From a recording-quality standpoint, this sounds loads better. From a composition standpoint it sounds as excellent as ever. Thanks for updating this.
  19. Shameless. Although, that's got me thinking. I gotta put a nice "apocalypse" playlist together for Friday. Y'know, just in case.
  20. It's practically an OCR tradition to speculate about tentaitive release dates that are nowhere near the actual release. People were anticipating the release of Double the Trouble for over a year now. Maverick Rising was... god, I don't even remember how many years "delayed". Albums happen when they happen, man, if you start getting excited about hard dates you'll go crazy.
  21. Balance releases before 12-21-12, Ruin releases after. Special mix of Catastrophe and Metamorphosis posted on the day itself.
  22. From an OCR standpoint: Sounds pretty medley-ish right now, as it just sort of moves from one piece to the next. Granted, this seems like a pretty short sample, so it's got plenty of time to develop, but I'd recommend finding something that can run through the entire piece to keep things connected, or maybe coming back to one particular source regularly to give it a more cohesive feel. From a production standpoint: Piano sounds a little overcompressed at times. I'm assuming it's the recording. Again, not a huge deal for an early demo, but definitely something to think about. That said, I'm really loving what I'm hearing so far. You play very nicely and, medley-ish or not, the pieces you have so far flow quite well. I look forward to hearing more of this.
  23. So you're skeptical about whether or not this "fill out forms and 'earn' real stuff" promotion (a thing widely known to be a shady more often than not) is legit or a scam and you're going to err on the side of trust? You, my friend, are what's known as a rube, a sucker, a sap, a pigeon, a patsy. Trust should be earned, not freely given. Especially on the Internet. Especially any time a deal seems too good to be true. Especially when it's your identity on the line. With a good scam, you won't find much evidence that it is a scam because the only difference between a good scam and a bad one is knowing how to cover your tracks. There is too much history with these things turning out bad to give these guys any undue credit. Keep playing with this if you like--it's certainly within your right to take risks like this, but just realize that you are eschewing common sense and potentially setting yourself up for a really, really hard time in the future. Credit card fraud and identity theft can absolutely ruin lives. At the very least, be on your guard. Don't give them the benefit of the doubt. Question everything before you fill it out, read everything carefully, and if you ever find yourself asking "can I trust them with this" know, and I mean know that the answer is "no". Even if they themselves won't misuse your information, you don't know how secure their site is, you don't know how secure the database they're storing your information is, and you don't know how secure their personnel is (even if the intent of the site isn't malicious, someone working there with access to that information could do something illicit on his/her own).
  24. Holy crap, Caboose being an AI would make a lot of sense. It would also explain why there's that whole little world inside his head when Church and Tex jump into him. I don't think we've seen anything like that for anyone else. Actually, come to think of it, it's pretty reminiscent of the AI world εChurch was hanging out in when he was searching for Tex, what with the inaccurate characterizations of the Red team and everything. I'm not sure Stupidity really wouldn't be much of a trait to extract though. Probably something more akin to innocence? Caboose kind of has a limited understanding of the world similar to that of a child's. Still probably not something the Meta would be too interested in, nor would I expect Project Freelancer would have much use for it (hence shipping it out to Blood Gulch).
