  1. This track needs some variation melodically. As it has been stated, it is very repetitive, which I suppose is understandable since the original theme wasn't all that long. I'd break away from the melody and throw in your own style somewhere along the way. What genre are you going for? I ask because that usually helps me familiarize what you're trying to create in terms of sound and such. I'd do more with the bassline, too. Argle mentioned that it just sits around. Well, he mentioned a lot of things. I think rhythm would really help this out, though. I will say that I like in comparison to the original that this doesn't really have a dark eerie feeling like the original, and that you put bells in this. By the way, what version of FL are you using? I'm just asking because Argle mentioned that maybe collaborating could help you get where you want this to go.
  2. Thank you for the friend request. And thanks again for your help earlier. That really cleared things up.

  3. That's exactly what happened. The kick got exponentially louder around that area. Oddly enough, I didn't boost between 60-200Hz, so I'm thinking having the low end just being kind of left alone might have something to do with it. http://oi58.tinypic.com/15qs277.jpg I just want to retain the frequencies there so the kick has a punch to it. Thanks again!
  4. You are a godsend! Amplitude might be the word I'm looking for. The kick has a muffled sound and as the frequency gets higher, it kind of has this tube sound until it finally reaches the max. I think the best way for me to describe this would be for you to open up FL Studio, make a simple 4 to the floor kick, link it to a channel, open the Fruity Free Filter in the mixer and move the Freq knob from 10Hz to the max. Then compare that by turning down the Q knob and then testing the Freq knob again. You'll notice the difference, no doubt. Either way, I was having distortion around 50 - 225Hz as the Freq knob was going up. Your compression numbers worked, though! I'll check out your compression in the link as well! Thanks a ton!
  5. How do you maximize your kick drum without getting distortion from an automation clip in FL Studio? When I move the Frequency knob, there are some parts that distort, while the rest of it is fine. So I decided to lower the frequencies that were causing the distortion. When I did so, my kick ended up sounding weaker. Lowering the resonance helps, but then you don't get that cool effect that comes along with automating the kick as the frequency comes in. Here is an example of what I'm trying to achieve. It's around the beginning part. bLiNd - Jade Catacombs
  6. I'm the same way with the build-up drums as well as well as with rolling snares and crashes. By the way, I took note that the image you posted earlier says Vectorman. Is that currently in the works? I'd like to hear that when it's done. I didn't get to play that game that often, but my best friend liked it a lot. It was pretty cool back in the day. I think if you reach 99/99 in the mixer, you may have to branch out with the Patcher.
  7. I love using automation. When I first started using FL, I saw a demo track and it had these weird looking colored things (automation clips) with a line in the middle that ended up being squiggly and stuff. I had no idea what it was at the time, but I saw what it could do, and I tried to Google it, but I wasn't getting what I wanted because I didn't know what it was called. I tried to deconstruct the demo to see if I could find what I was looking for, ended up finding out it was called automation, then Google'd that to see how to do it. I like having the kick, claps, hats, and snares all compiled in one pattern. My friend separates each. I think making a whole drum sequence and duplicating it for variation is a lot quicker and more organized, though. And what are you thinking using 77 channels? I don't even go that far. Maybe one day, though.
  8. I was doing a collaboration once with a friend, and we got about 60 synths put in. I handed him the collaboration back for him to fill in whatever he would like, but we never got around to even completing it. Too much stuff scares me. I like to keep at a minimum of at least 10 to 15 sounds, that's excluding the drums and FX. I would have to devote a ton of time in if I was doing stuff like you. I'm so unmotivated though, and it's mainly because of EQing and not really understanding compression, or when to apply it, if necessary.
  9. Assuming you use FL Studio, have you ever considered using the Patcher? It would save you a lot of room when it comes to layering. I can't say it would help with the amount of memory necessary for the VSTs, Soundfonts, or whatever. It's basically the same workflow, just simplified. The issue might be when it comes to EQing and such for each synth.
  10. Not sure why I wasn't able to find you. Could have been SoundCloud doing maintenance or something. Interesting choice to choose for this remix. I think it better captures the mood of Kapp'n's song. I think of an old town and a sailor that sees a pretty woman. He has no time to meet her because he has to go on a journey. Along the way, as he travels, there comes a heart-wrenching feeling when he thinks of her that he may never be able to resolve.
  11. I pencil notes in in the piano roll on FL Studio. I've thought about recording my voice and then writing them out, but every time I have an interesting melody, I'm either in the shower or not at home, and it really upsets me because I feel like these things have potential. There was a day I had a dream with a theme playing in my head, quickly got up, hummed it to myself several times while writing it out in FLS.
  12. Something is wrong with the link. I'm not sure if this is possible, but you may be on private as well, because I keep getting an error just by looking up your name.
  13. I can't really find anything to complain about. The chord progression sounds familiar to a D&B track I once heard, but I can't put my finger on which one it was. That's not a bad thing, though. I like the smooth synths and how well they complement one another.
  14. There is a remix I'd like to continue, but I have no guitar or the kind of money for something like Shreddage. I'd love to hear the final product eventually.
  15. It is a short WIP at the moment, that's for sure. I wanted to gather everything from the original into what I have now, with the time being 4/4 and different sounds applied on top. That's why everything starts out with the action from the get-go. I am going to break it down, possibly applying an intro of my own within the same key. I totally understand what you mean when it comes to the 0:27 mark. To me, it kind of sounds like a medley because of that jump into a different key. But is that bad, in terms of going from one key into the next? Does it transition fine, is what I'm asking? Probably not. My main focus is at the 0:43 mark to be honest. I feel like it sounds awkward. The whole idea for me is to use different instruments without sticking to the same ones throughout the whole track. Previously, when I was starting to make trance or whatever, I generally stuck to the same synths, and looking back, it kind of bores me because it lacks the variety of different sounds. Anyway, thank you for your input. Hopefully I can figure out how to fix this.
  16. After seeing the new Magicant stage in Super Smash Bros. 3DS, as well as hearing the new arrangement for that stage, I became inspired to remix the Magicant theme. The original is in 3/4 time, I believe, and so I had to reconfigure the notes to fit 4/4 time. I like what I've come up with, but I have a few issues with how they transition and just the sound overall towards the end. Any suggestions? Does the way it sound as far as structure goes sound fine? I fear that if something doesn't sound right, structurally, that I won't know how to fix the issues. Update 1: ID WIP Original Source: Aiko Ohmori and Ritsuo Kamimura Remix: MOTHER - Magicant WIP
  17. Alright, so that's about enough clarification I need. Could be fun to do as a hobby, I suppose. Curiosity got the best of me.
  18. So if someone here made a remix in FL Studio, uploaded their remix, got it approved, I could take the users .flp file, provided they allowed me to, and remix his/her remix? I just want to make sure we're on the same page. I'm not talking about taking a remix done by a video game company and remixing their remix.
  19. This track is pretty minimalistic early on. For someone who doesn't make trance, I think you're off on a good start. Things you should look for are build-ups and breakdowns. I think this is a fine example of what to consider: Obviously I'm not saying you should make yours just like that. The only issue I'm having is everything before 2:13. The first 0:28 seconds was keeping me interested. After that, I thought a few more things could be added, such as plucky arps, an atmospheric pad, or something to really let the listener know it's going somewhere. Most of it is a repeating bassline. Yes, I'm disregarding the drum section. 3:13 is good. That's something I was hoping to hear as it sounds fuller in terms of more instruments going one. Then 4:24 gets really interesting. Unfortunately, I feel like everything a few seconds after that is a let down. Not because it's bad, but because I was expecting a really explosive smack in the face outro, but only got an ending with a drum loop. But don't take my word for it. Those are just my thoughts and what you do with your remix is entirely up to you. Also, please don't confuse my criticism as trying to discourage you. I think I did that once before when I didn't mean to. I appreciate your track, figured I'd give my input of what I think could be improved, and that's it. I was guided here in particular due to the title mentioning trance.
  20. I wouldn't say it's an overdone remix. That's probably Energy 52 - Cafe Del Mar or Age of Love - Age of Love. Anyway, it sounds good so far. I like the Eastern flute sounds. I think it gives it some character. I especially like that driven guitar sound. What are you using for that?
  21. That was a quick response. The thought occurred to me because there was a remix contest several months ago where the original producer placed a remix done by someone else of his track online to have people remix the remix. That's confusing. There was a lot of differences from the remix and original, but the remix managed to retain the familiar aspects as far as melody goes. I was just wondering if anyone else had ever bothered doing the same. I mean, what do you call a remixed remix?
  22. Has remixing someone else's remix on this site ever been considered? As in taking someone else's MIDI work and/or stems, and expanding on it to create the remix the way you would have made it, rather than taking an original song by someone like Koji Kondo and remixing it from scratch?
