  1. I forgot to thank you for telling me this. So thanks! After installing ChipAmp now though on 5.541, it wouldn't play back any gbs files... so I got NEZplug++, unzipped it in the winamp plugins folder and overwrote the existing files. Now it still won't play back GBS and NEZplug isn't even in the plugins list. EDIT: This seems to be related to the msvcr71.dll error I've been having. I fixed that and now the gbs files play, and NEZplug is back on the list.
  2. I've actually been meaning to make a remix of bubble man's theme from mega man 2 in the same style as toni braxton's "unbreak my heart" for years but never gotten around to it. I think it would sound great! I don't know if I'll ever actually make one though... Anyway, even if someone made a remix for valentine's day now and submitted it TODAY it wouldn't be posted on the site until NEXT valentine's day (2010), at the rate things are going here.
  3. Actually, no... that would have been "them". By "it" I mean the pain he caused you by stealing all of the attention from this project of yours.
  4. Mustin teabagged your mother? What an asshole. I mean, talk about rubbing it in. I'm joking, by the way.
  5. Oh. I thought you meant Aeth had made something himself. I'm guessing he hasn't.
  6. As I suspected, then. Of course, if someone famous decided to start a Megaman 4 remix project I wouldn't shed a tear.
  7. Doh. I only read the tracklist in the first post, and according to it, the windfish theme was unclaimed, but I should have known it wasn't. Well, consider it.
  8. There's a really nice version of the windfish theme somewhere in the soundtrack (I don't remember the track number and there's no way to play back nsf's on the machine I'm on right now). Aeth obviously didn't want it in since he'd already claimed the version in the current tracklist, but since it's open, would you consider adding that other version? I'll write again as soon as I find the track number if you don't already know which one I mean (I think it's among the first 10 but I could be wrong). Of course, I guess someone could try to make a remix of the version of the windfish theme currently listed, but in the style of that other version. EDIT: It's track 3.
  9. Alright, that makes a lot more sense than what I thought you said before. Thanks for clarifying. Hmm. You have a point there.
  10. Unless you really think I need to, I'd rather get away with leaving my mix as it is (sure it could use some improvement but I don't feel like fixing it up). Consider this post my "consent" or whatever it was you wanted from me. Good luck with the project.
  11. That's from the Rabbit Joint's version, right? My point, however, was that Music of my Groin is a song that I wouldn't think of as something that "other musicians would listen to and appreciate for years to come" rather than something that the "average joe would listen to for a couple of weeks and then forget about when the next musical fad came around". I understand why you would prefer to write the former over the latter, but I for one think that OCR would be worse off without these mixes. It sounds like you're saying that "if everyone can enjoy it, it's not stuck-up enough for ocr". I'm surprised to hear something like this from you. It's like you want OCR to not only have high standards, but also to be a haven for game remix snobs who like to think they are better and have better taste than others, because they can appreciate something that the average joe can't. Like those "modern art" folks. Bleh. Anyway, I'll say it again, I don't mind covers. I can understand why OCR would want to profile itself by not having them, but I don't see why there would be anything wrong with them. "Sound upgrades" are enjoyable, too, unless you have some strange disorder where anything that isn't a reinterpretation makes you twist in agony.
  12. You mean like "Hillbilly rodeo" and "Music of my groin"? "Hello Cat" is one that I still listen to every so often and there's not much reinterpretation in there. It's actually the best Top Man cover out there as far as I know.
  13. I for one like both OCReMiX styled reinterpretations and straight-up covers. What I don't like is when you can't tell what the remix is a remix of, but that's only because for me, then it's not interesting to listen to. What key the mix is in I couldn't care less about. But then again I don't have perfect pitch and I suppose people who do would mind a bit.
  14. So about how long, on average, will it take from the moment of submission until it's past the panel (if accepted), and until it's posted, nowadays? 3 and 6 months? More? Just curious.
  15. This is dark, alright. The organ is a nice touch. I miss the hitech feeling of the original though, this doesn't feel as haunting or alien. It actually feels a lot like something from Pirates of the Carribean... and yeah, it never really climaxes...
  16. This is about as simplistic and minimalistic as it gets. It's more or less a sound upgrade too. I like it, but I think it would sound better with some stronger bass and kick.
  17. I always liked this mix. The lead is a little, and the pad is excellent, and the filtered bass too. There a long intro where the song doesn't develop at all, to the point where it would normally feel repetitive, but it just gets you entranced, sort of, and I'm glad to see this here on ocr for a change. Once the drums come they don't really add anything, and at the same time the lead starts sounding really strange, lagging behind as it slides between its notes. Sounds a lot like me trying to play the ocarina in Zelda 5...
  18. The first part is just... not ugly. Once the guitars come in it feels like you're listening to an entirely different remix. There's no transition between the two. Also when the guitars start playing they sound very nice, but unfortunately they don't play the theme right at all. The drums are also going crazy for no apparent reason, the mix would have been much better if they'd just played the same as the original. I still prefer listening to the spc over this. But kudos for covering the theme. (I really don't remember the first part of the mix from anywhere in the game though)
  19. The flute is just soooo right. I love it. Unfortunately everything in this song sounds very midi-ish, especially the drums, and the guitar isn't very convincing either... Interesting take on the theme though.
  20. This is horribly midi, while also feeling like the theme from some 80's tv show (which is kinda nice, though). But the arrangement is nice. There should be more mixes of this game, there are some really nice tunes in it...
  21. Yeah, this is pretty... dull. And pretty. Could definitely use some more bass, that could have given it a much more cinematic feeling. The bassline is great, it just needs to be stronger and drier. The delayed oboe feels a little too fake for my taste. The arrangement is really nice but being as laid back as it is it's not very exciting to listen to.
  22. It's too bad this sounds so midi-ish (especially the oboe, which sounds like something taken directly from the AoE soundtrack). I think the oboe doesn't fit at all. I like the song as a whole, though. I wish it was longer.
  23. This is just about the best thing anyone could ever make of this song. The synth lead playing the melody in the beginning (right before the organ) should have been replaced by a rhodes or something though, I think...
  24. This isn't very pretty. It's a nice idea, but I really miss the original melody, it's like the melody in here is the counter melody from the original... and the distortion makes everything very messy.
