  1. Quick update: all tracks are now mastered and the album package has been submitted for evaluation yesterday. Now we wait
  2. Sure, you can EQ it too, but it’s pretty common to use different amps (or amp models) and settings for the rhythm guitars, and that, combined with 2 separate performances (one for left, one for right) make it sound full already. If you use midi guitar, changing the part slightly between left and right (e.g. by changing some velocities and timings) will be a big help, rather than simply copy/pasting the part. Same for when you record from a guitar; I am assuming you are not a robot and that the parts will sound slightly different anyway. I’d recommend to try this first; you can always make it more complex later (better to start simple IMO).
  3. Will do. There’s also some other people on that list I could reach; I’ll give those a whirl too.
  4. I can try reaching out to Sir J and Tuberz if needed, just holler.
  5. Typically? A different rhythm guitar performance with different amp settings/amp model hard panned left and right. Lead guitar in the center. Pay attention to the bass and make it play nicely with the rhythms to give it depth and that typical low metal sound. Optionally you could look into quad tracking, but essentially it’s a variation of the above.
  6. For all the people lurking along: we just cleared our final deadline and have a total of 29 completed tracks now! Next steps are getting these tracks mastered and then package everything up and send it over to OCR staff for the next steps later this month. We'll keep on updating the thread with further info as we go along. Stay tuned
  7. I am not a Windows user, but it sounds like your regular Windows playback system is using a different output device that probably has some effects/processing on it. And that doesn't seem to happen with ASIO. I'd probably check the Windows audio drivers and/or processing settings in Windows Media Player and have a look at what other apps might be running (for example in the system tray or whatever it's called these days).
  8. I always encourage album artists to submit their track to the OCR panel for evaluation independently. You don't even have to wait until the album is released; just mark in your submission email for which album it is, and staff will take care of it. With regards to your other question, the album director(s) get to pick a handful of tracks (usually 5) for the mixflood that will be posted to promote the album. These 5 tracks will be vetted by OCR staff (they have to meet the bar of course) and typically will be published in 2-3 batches in the first week of the album. Any other album tracks that you see getting posted are always individual submissions by the artists themselves; as album directors we only choose the handful of tracks for the mixflood. As always, what tracks get posted when is up to OCR staff discretion of course. And to answer the unasked question: I don't know yet which tracks we will select for the mixflood We will do our best to select those 5 tracks that we feel represent the album and the game best, and of which we think they'll promote the album best, but since not all tracks are done yet and me and Trism haven't discussed this yet, we don't have a selection narrowed down right now.
  9. I think both approaches are equally valid... maybe not from a listener/OCR audience perspective per se, but from an artist perspective I completely understand. Sometimes you just gotta paint outside the lines a bit, even if it can be divisive (I’ve been there (voice acting reggae, anyone?) only not as out there as you did). I can appreciate your track from a intellectual and musical perspective, but I can understand the feedback from a listener perspective too. Ultimately OCR of course needs a bit of both elements, but the listener may struggle a bit. C’est la vie.
  10. Here’s your friendly directors again with a quick update. We just passed the last check-in, and we received some promising WIPs! Also a few tracks were finished and mastered, and some other tracks are on their way to be finished. All in all some great progress (thank you, all!) and now it’s onwards to the final deadline end of this month. Good luck to all the remixers wrapping up their tracks, looking forward to it!
  11. Hiya, I did a Future Bass/EDM arrangement of Cid's Theme from Final Fantasy 9 (for the Pixel Mixers FF9 album Beyond the Mist), featuring @Earth Kid on vocals. It's a bit different from my usual stuff and there's frog sounds in it, so what's not to like?
  12. The playlist episode is also a rather nice way to (re)discover some remixes (and I am not just saying that because I’m in it).
  13. While it might seem things are dormant here, there’s actually quite a lot happening behind the scenes! First of all, we’ve set the dates for the final check-in and the final deadline: Final check-in is August 31. Final deadline is September 30. Tracks will no longer be accepted after this date. We’ve been in touch with the remixers still working on their tracks and confirming their participation. Lots of good progress has been made, and I expect we’ll see a handful of new finished tracks this month! Also, we have a few new claims! @Rozovian claimed the Boss Fight track Fredrik Hathen claimed the Underworld track @Jorito claimed the Resurrection theme medley So all in all, plenty of good stuff is happening. Hope to see a lot of promising updates and final versions over the remaining weeks!
  14. I know some of the people with finished tracks and wouldn't mind helping reach out, see if we can pry some WAVs out of their hands. You know where to find me if you need a hand
  15. Thanks for the kind words, and glad you like/get it! Not sure I understand your last question? This track is included on the Pixel Mixers FF9 album (disc 4 iirc), amongst 120 or so others. So if you have more appetite for FF9 (or more tracks from me, there’s 2 more on there), why not go ahead and download the album? Links should me in the mixpost. For the price of free you hardly can go wrong
  16. And yes, the ever important “What would it sound like if I did this?” question that ad.mixx mentions is a great way to keep your curiosity and creativity going and keep things interesting as you go along.
  17. If you have good piano skills, why not try your hand at some piano only arrangements first? Or maybe a sonata? That way, it’s easier to focus on the essentials of arrangement and composition without getting all distracted by technical stuff such as plugins, MIDI, controller data, etc. If you can make something sound good and complete on piano, it should be easier to translate it into something different and more fully fleshed out than doing it the other way around. After all, being limited to 10 notes max does kinda force you to get the essentials of the piece down.
  18. Not sure of your musical ability, but if you are starting out from scratch, expect it to take a while before things are starting to sound good. Just create a lot of tracks, try to finish them and learn as you go along. They won’t be master pieces initially, but keep in mind that this is a learning phase and just try to enjoy it. Expecting a lot of yourself will only cause frustration and disappointment, so go easy on yourself and give yourself time. Makes things a lot more enjoyable in the long run, and the journey is a very important part of learning a new skill anyway. On a less philosophical level, what style of music do you have in mind? Any musical abilities already? Any weaknesses/skills you would love to develop? Would be good to know so we can chip in with some practical tips.
  19. Hey Psam, welcome here :)

  20. Good to see this being picked up again. You can definitely use my track for it; just hit me up for the wav and writeup.
  21. Don't worry about it, it's classic Meteo and he has a knack for weird posts Having said that, I applaud you you for your newly found attitude and can imagine it was not easy. Anyway, welcome back and enjoy your stay (in a more positive light than the last time).
  22. I may or may not have sent a claim for the Paragons.
  23. AFAIK, the 50% is more a guideline than a hard rule, and mostly to rule out either too liberal arrangements (ie. originals) or too conservative arrangements (1:1 covers). I have had arrangements posted that were quite liberal (maybe not even making the 50% if you'd stopwatch it very strictly) so I am talking from experience here. As for your question... well, when you submit a track, you also need to list the source track. So I guess that answers it?
