PS1 20th anniversary album [CANCELLED :(]
Jorito replied to Ivan Hakštok's topic in Recruit & Collaborate!
Hmmm, tempting, I am a nostalgic sucker for PSX games! I'm interested for sure, but I'll have to check with my other commitments too (oh and getting the move to a new house out of the way first). I wouldn't mind some RPG song recommendations tho, as I'm a sucker for JRPGs -
Strangely enough I find these music theory discussions/battles between Neblix and timaeus222 quite entertaining, being a theory n00b. IOW: I don't know the correct labels for the stuff I do, I just do. Might not be the best way, and depending on your personality even the worst way, but for me it works and I have fun finding out all this stuff without the fancy wordings attached to them, and I guess that's what matters. So yeah, just practice
-
Yay, my WIP is deemed worthy too, so Chernabogue just added me to the list with a nice green block
-
Thx for clearing that up. I'll do some more work on it so I can jump to the 'substantial wip' phase Funny to read that this game is a remake of the original Vampire Killer but that it doesn't feature Wicked Child (yeah, that's a remix from me that I still have to finish, and no, it's not for my audition, just for fun )
-
How far advanced does the WIP have to be? I have a rough concept track and a good idea on what I want
-
I think I can do some neat stuff with Forest of Monsters, which seems to be free. Since I'm not a posted remixer (yet , them judges take a while) I guess I have to cook up a WIP in stead of flooding you with tracks that are in the judges' inbox for months, right? Hope I can get something soon-ish.

I'm very good at lurking around in stead of participating, just wanted to give some kudos for keeping this up. Due to timezone differences I can't be there but I'm enjoying the streams later on Youtube

So, I made this drum 'n bass-ish version of the first stage from Undeadline, a vertical shmup for the MSX2, X86000 and Sega Megadrive. Overall I'm feeling pretty good about it, and in general it has the vibe I was going for. However, I'm not totally happy with the flow yet, some parts feel out of place and I'm a bit stuck. So some help would be nice The stuff that bothers me the most is 0:33-0:44, which is part of the original but feels weird, transition-wise. I think it maybe needs to go. Also 3:10-3:32 feels a bit misplaced or too long or the rhythm guitar part is just badly sequenced, I dunno... Anyway, have a gander: Source: Remix: http://www.jorito.net/files/Undeadline/undeadnb_20141109.mp3 BTW, I'm aware the mix can use some work; this is just my raw DAW project with not a lot of mixing and EQ going on (I usually do that in a separate session with exported wavs)

wip Illusion City (cyberpunk RPG) - Enter The Illusion (epic/hybrid)
Jorito replied to Jorito's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Oh yes for Damage drums I don't use them often but found these nice sounds that I just _had_ to use Thanks for the clear pointers, after working on a track for quite a while you kinda loose perspective and this kind of input helps finding it back. I didn't bring in a sub bass, I think the synth bass that you hear there has too much low frequencies and too few high freqs. Some cutting would help there, I think I already sidechained it but have to check. Also IIRC I turned off all the builtin reverbs before exporting the tracks into my mix project, so the reverb stuff should be easy enough to work on. Surprisingly nobody had any issues with the low explosion/rumble noise at 2:50 -

Cheers for your review! And I'm actually pretty pleased that you point out the same points that I heard, must mean I'm getting better at this I have some nitpicks with the mix in the busy second part, so I might be looking into that some more, but it's good to hear that I'm on track -
This triggers an idea allright. Feel free to contact me for details if there's enough singers (I'm jot one myself tho).

This track combines 2 songs from the game Shovel Knight into a sad, lamenting song with vocals. It features the songs 'Requiem of Shield Knight' and 'A Thousand Leagues Below'. It was made in one week for the Knights of the ReMix doubles compo. Composition and arrangement by Jorito and evktalo, lyrics by evktalo and vocals by Xarnax42. Mixed and mastered by Andy Booth. We did some more polishing and finally deem the song finished. We're very happy with the final result, but we're curious what you guys think of it so feedback is appreciated! Source tracks: http://virt.bandcamp.com/track/the-requiem-of-shield-knight http://virt.bandcamp.com/track/a-thousand-leagues-below-iron-whale-manami-matsumae ReMix: https://soundcloud.com/jorito/shovel-knight-shovels-lament Or if you prefer it with visuals: Source breakdown: 0:00-0:07 Celeste intro, based on the Requiem lead at 0:03-0:05. 0:08-0:16 Cello enters, riff is from A Thousand Leagues Below @ 0:55-0:57. 0:16-0:32 Variation of the main melody from Requiem with different bass. 0:32-1:04 Two first thirds of the first verse, based on Requiem's 0:02-0:24 (though on 0:02-0:12 more clearly); ATLB 0:55 riff from the intro features at 0:55-1:04. 1:04-1:35 Final third of the verse follows the 0:25-0:47 portion of the Requiem (ATLB 0:55 riff again ata 1:12-1:20). 1:35-2:08 The chorus is based on ATLB 0:55-1:05, which is easiest to hear 1:43-1:52 and 2:04-2:08. The vocal melody is based on 0:57 and 1:00 of the source. 2:08-2:40 The second verse follows 0:25-0:47 in the requiem. The cello adds some ATLB from 0:19-0:24 at 02:31-02:39. 02:40-3:10 Is the second chorus. 3:10- 3:44 From ATLB 0:19-0:36. 3:45-4:00 From ATLB 0:36-0:46 (acoustic guitar), trumpet solo based on the main Requiem melody. 4:00-4:16 The same, actually. especially audible at the end. 4:16-4:32 From ATLB 0:46-0:55. 4:32-end Repeats of the chorus (continuing the ATLB coverage from 0:55->). Lyrics: sky is clear the thunder gone no gold at the end of the rain we fought hard we fought long nothing left at the end of the day I'd be king you, the queen we'd beat them, we would drive them away turns out we were not the heroes we were made out to be chorus: if I lose my place you're there, you'll catch my fall promises break and you are still my all with you there shielding me I have faith, I can dig our way through we've got all the treasure we need if I lose my place you're there, you'll catch my fall promises break and you are still my all (middle part) nothing remains apart from the ash, still warm ambitions fade and you are still my all though I've lost my grace you're there, you'll catch my fall catch my fall catch my fall catch my fall Enjoy!

Yes, you made the deadline with one hour to spare! Great to see a rather decent participation for this obscure game/song -

Submitted a bonus track. Not 100% satisfied with it yet, but don't have time before the deadline to work on it anyway, so yeah. -

Since I can't participate this round anyway, I thought it'd be nice to give you guys a preview of the bonus track I'm working on. Here it is: http://www.jorito.net/files/Undeadline/undeadpreview.mp3 Hope I can finish it before the (Un)deadline! -
Guidance for beginner? Also, Arturia MiniLab help?
Jorito replied to treedoor's topic in Music Composition & Production
Heh, I never knew about Rozo's guide and stumbled through it on my own. Glimpsing through it I think there's good pointers for more experienced people in there too, so I guess some reading is in order for me The stuff Rozo said in his posts makes total sense. I'd get a DAW (any will do) to save your stuff with, and something that makes sounds. Can be software synths, samples, a MIDI keyboard, or a microhone and an acoustic instrument. What you choose prolly doesn't matter a lot at this point prolly, but just playing, experimenting and finding out how stuff works and what you want to do prolly is. Have fun on this amazing journey!
