Jorito got a reaction from Chernabogue in Castlevania: Cacophony of Incarnation 2016
Interesting, I'm battling against WarMachine with who I collab'ed on a Castlevania song for Vampire Variations 3
My schedule is pretty busy, so it might mean a weekend allnighter. Hope to squeeze out something enjoyable though!

Jorito reacted to XPRTNovice in How do you get over fear of failure?
Well, I would try to first stop thinking of us as "pros" and start thinking us as a community of people who live and grow together musically. OCR isn't just a showcase, the community forums are here specifically for this reason.
Other than that, I can't offer too much other than platitudes about failure being the only form of success. It all boils down to: chill out. Try things. Ditch what doesn't work and keep what does. Love music.

Helping your competitor?! How brazen!

I'll send you my transcribed midi later tonight! It's a pretty simple source for the most part.

I think having that information on the calendar would be helpful. Also, the submission times on those dates, with time zones clearly marked. I'd hate to accidentally submit mine past the deadline due to time zone confusion.

Jorito reacted to DarkeSword in Introducing the Competitions Calendar
Hey everyone, djpretzel and I have finally gotten around to working on calendar and event permissions.
We've created a new usergroup on the forums for Event Schedulers. These folks are able to post to calendars and approve their own events. I've added the folks who regularly run competitions to this group: MindWanderer, SuperiorX, HoboKa, and Bundeslang. Anyone else needs to have their events approved by a moderator (like me). If you are planning on running a recurring compo or a tournament, I can approve your events for you and if things work out, I can eventually add you to the ES group.

That's fine. Good luck to all the participants this round, I'm looking forward to listening to the songs!
On a second note I will be doing the stream today anyways. I know we have some veterans in this compo but maybe some of the newer guys would be interested in watching. I'll be working on a new track but I will be answering production questions mostly. Well that is, the little I know about production. But what little I know I would like to share it, so tune in if you want!. If that's ok with you I will post an update when the stream goes up in an hour or two.

Yay, Spacesynth! It's cool to see another Spacesynth & Italo enthusiast around here. I'm not that familiar with the source, but it definitely has this Laserdance-like vibe to me. Good job (apart from the notes on the timecodes that Larry mentioned), enjoyed it!
Also great to know that you don't need (want) expensive synths and samples for this but freebies are all you need

I'm also in the retro branch, but I don't see any participant called 'Woe' in there

I think you should rename this competition to "CASTLEMANIA!!"

Noooooooooh, he's a precious resource that you have to use sparingly! Although I do not rule out I might ask him (or any one of the other 14 people I collab'ed with ;))

Session musicians are fine. DarkeSword's logic makes sense: having access to a musician is like having a sample library.

Was pleasantly surprised the remix period is 2 weeks, where I expected one. That makes my remixes less of a rush job so that can only mean they will be better quality, rite?

I was also super relieved to see the 2 week period. 2 weeks allows me to take a day here and there for some recovery from work stress without feeling guilty over not remixing.

Sources and brackets are finished and in the first post. Please review to make sure your selection is correct and that the timing works for you.
Also please note the area title assigned to your source. You'll be using that when you name your remix submission files.
Edit: Missed this earlier, somehow:
Yeah, that was before I started frequenting these forums, but I did notice that from reading the archives. That's why I'm doing a point-based losers' bracket, so that if someone is too fatigued to continue, their dropping out won't be a free pass for their opponent--and if they want to jump back in later on, they can. That's also why I'm calling the winner of the winners' bracket a tournament victor even if they lose the final round (thus effectively making that round optional for them), but the winner of the losers' bracket has a shot at earning co-winner.
Also, since I'd like to make an OCR-I out of this for Castlevania's 30th anniversary, I want to give people who drop out more chances to create something they like well enough to include.

Okay, I'm having somewhat second thoughts. My overly busy schedule has become a bit less busy and a bit more predictable. I'm happy to take the back seat here and give any other takers or leavers priority, but if you're closing signups with an odd number: sign me up with Wicked Child as a source.

I got you all a digital download code for free music, I'm gonna hide it below in white text so that it isn't taken by people not involved with secret santa:

Interesting theme for sure! I wouldn't mind entering myself
No brilliant arrangement ideas just yet, and I'm not gonna be the one that collabs with live instrument (apart from human whistling)

Mid January; gotcha! I'll see what I can come up with
*edit* I got off my lazy *** and finally started on my WIP. About 1:30 done so far (not bad for a 27 second source) and good ideas on how to progress.
