  1. Yeah. Say what you will about the quality of the games or the supposed decline of the series or SE milking it or whatever, but you can't deny that Final Fantasy games, especially the "main" games, are system sellers.
  2. And so begins the The Great Chthonic War.
  3. This looks so neat. I wish my computer could handle it. o_o
  4. Glad you linked that, Thalzon. As soon as I saw the title of this thread I thought it was misleading. Square Enix's new trend is that Final Fantasy games come in series. Right now, with Final Fantasy XII, we're seeing Ivalice Alliance, which is basically the main FFXII game(for PS2), FFT Lion's War (for PSP), FFT A2 (for DS), and FFXII Revenant Wings (for DS). They all take place in the same world and are linked together. (Technically FFXII for PS2 isn't part of IA, but it's still an Ivalice game with links to the other games). The main Final Fantasy XIII game is going to be on PS3. FFXIII Versus is also on PS3. There are still other games that are going to be on other systems that we don't know. Probably one or two of them will be on a portable system like DS or PSP, and there's probably a cell phone game in there because they like those over in Japan. So yes, the Final Fantasy XIII series is going to be multiplatform, but the game Final Fantasy XIII is not.
  5. I agree with Coop. I think that making your own podcast about OCR is a great way to start getting involved with the community in the first place, and a "fresh perspective" is definitely needed; a podcast about OCR should be accessible to people who don't frequent the site, and having a host who is discovering things about the community makes it that much more real. Don't worry too much about getting involved with the "community" first. Just do it and keep doing it. If you do a good job and people like it, then all the better.
  6. As an artist, I don't think you can control your Last.FM artist profile. You can only control your Last.FM user profile.
  7. You must not have met many college students.
  8. I like this version better; it's closer to what I want the song to sound like.
  9. I always intend to do a fantastic job. As for permission, I'm fine with it, as long as you don't use the Chrono Symphonic version of this song. Use this version. The CS version was tweaked slightly at the behest of Compyfox for better integration with the rest of the album, but this is the definitive version.
  10. I have often heard the comparison between Santorini and Blue Skies Over Guardia made, and that's not too far off. Santorini is one of my favorite songs. While the similarities you hear weren't intentional when I was writing this mix, I realized only a few weeks later that it had been a huge, subconscious influence. So yes, the Santorini connection is there.
  11. So it begins.
  12. Nope. Media will blame games, TV, and music. The internet will retaliate and blame parents for not doing a good job. The blame game will be played for weeks, months, maybe even years. Eventually everyone will forget to blame the one person who actually deserves it: the guy who decided to pick up the gun and kill 33 people.
  13. That's true. My first job was as a cashier at Target. It wasn't a bad job; a bit hectic during certain times of the year, but overall, a good job. Every person should work in retail at least once in their life. You gain a huge appreciation for the crap that retail workers sometimes have to deal with. As for preparing for a job interview, you should focus on more important things than video game knowledge. Employers always look for the same things: communication skills, the ability to work in groups, etc. Focus on selling your soft skills.
  14. So uh, don't bother posting in the thread?
  15. Because people can be angry, immature, and evil.
  16. A new Rival Schools game would be awesome as a 3D cel-shaded fighter. That series always had some awesome presentation.
  17. I love 3rd Strike because it proves that the series could progress after II and Alpha. Plus it's a really fucking awesome game. I want to see Capcom try more things. Bring back more II/Alpha characters, introduce new characters. Age some characters, progress the story. There's always somewhere to go with Street Fighter.
  18. If only they'd put all this effort into just making STREET FIGHTER 4.
  19. I don't think that the donations are the real issue here. It's the fact is that he used other people's work without giving them credit. Leaving legality aside, that's just something you never do if you think of yourself as an "artist." If you use someone else's work, even if it IS a note-for-note MIDI file of a video game song, you have to give that person credit, because sequencing something by ear is not easy. It takes a lot of time to recreate something note-for-note just by listening to it. I do it all the time when I remix; I have a song playing and I'm constantly repeating two or three bars of music just to separate all of the parts. This guy talks about the MIDIs like they're nothing special; something to the effect of "last time I checked, koji wrote those songs." He fails to recognize that sequencing a MIDI is hard work for other people. The irony is that he can't do it himself by ear, so he turns to those MIDI files for guidance. I feel bad for the artists he ripped; this guy won't own up to what he did publicly, and he won't give credit where credit is due. It's pretty despicable.
  20. I've gotten over 13,000 in Nanaca Crash. Yeah, I have no life.
  21. I'm waiting for an inevitable PC version.
  22. Oh please, don't use the can't-afford-samples argument. That's such a cop out. I use free sounds almost exclusively. And my biggest problem was with your approach to the piece. I dislike it when people are so quick to write off certain kinds of music as "elevator music," especially bossa nova and certain kinds of smooth jazz. The ideas you have are good, but like I said before, don't pigeonhole yourself into vapidity just to fit some ill-defined concept like "elevator music." Expand, explore, and adapt. Good genre adaptations have always been welcomed at OCR.
