  1. Not bad as far as electronica goes, but it's still a fairly "bmmtss" arrangement of Aya's Theme. I kept waiting for the crazy-sick breakdown, but all I got was the same stuff over and over again. Not bad but unremarkable all the same. NO
  2. I really like the mood, sounds, and arrangement in general. There are some very nice points, such as 2:14, that really shine with this track. Piano is organic and pretty, even if it's a bit bright for my tastes. However, I'm not a big fan of the synth improv solo in the middle of this track. It uses blue notes to no end, which, in my opinion, doesn't fit with the mood of the song. There's a very airy, epic quality to the song, and the blue-note riddled solo sticks out like a sore thumb. It feels very inappropriate and gratuitous, especially with the surrounding material. There are also a few points in this track where things get too busy, particularly when the piano plays under the synth lead. The balance feels off. I'd like to pass this track, but I can't get past that solo. Borderline NO. Old vote, kthx. Scroll down for the big YES.
  3. Tricky! Percussion is tight and tricky as hell, as well as noisy in a good way. Very cool grooves. Synthy leads are neat, with very nice filtering and distortion thrown on. Not much more to say about this; it's raw and fun. YES
  4. Hm. Aluminum. There's a name I haven't seen in a while. Thanks for providing the source tune for us. Very nice groove. I'm enjoying the chill atmosphere. Great sounds all around, save the rather synthy flute. I could have done with something more natural, but that's a minor, personal gripe. Arrangement is varied and doesn't get boring. I agree with the direct post sentiment by DJP. YES
  5. Adding effects to your generators is something that's available in the online help. Please check that out before asking such a basic question. That said, I'll answer your question, cause I'm a nice guy and I rock etc. In your Channel Settings window for the generator there's an LCD number up at the top corner marked FX. That's the FX channel the generator is sending to. You can drag that number up and down to change the FX channel. In FL hit F9 to bring up the Effects/Mixer window. This will show you all the FX channels. Select the one that your generator is set to and start adding effects in the dropdown menus. FL has a bunch of them. Experiment. Anyway, like I said, something like this is a very simple question that can easily be figured out on one's own or by reading the manual. We're glad to answer questions, but please make an effort to help yourself with basic priciples. It's like asking how to change the tempo.
  6. Your submission ettiquette was fine. All the necessary information without prattling on incessantly about your personal life. Nice work. As for the mix, I'm afraid I'm in agreement with Vig. While this is not painful to listen to, I think that its rather simplistic as far as a techno arrangement goes. The gating rhythm is not all that interesting, and the percussion is a bit repetitive. I could have done with something that had a bit more energy. Not terrible, but unremarkable. NO
  7. Great intro. Very substantial stuff. Typical Mark Vera HQ sounds. No complaints there. The arrangement is nice and dynamic, with a good amount of variation. 3:17 in particular really rocks. Very groovy stuff. JA
  8. I'm in agreement with the others. The arrangement is pretty lackluster. Hardly any highs and lows, and there's much too much reverb on that kick drum. The strings and the kickdrum 'verb are filling up the space in a bad, muffely kind of way. Work on arrangement and variation, as well as balance between your sounds. NO
  9. When you die, God will send you to Heaven, because you remixed Kirby music, and mixed it well. There are some wonky notes here and there, but they're few and far between, so I'm gonna say YES. Although I really think we should get a version that fixes the glitch at 1:05.
  10. Being 'broke' is not an excuse to steal software. Piracy is not allowed on OCR.
  11. The drums are just really lo-fi, although they're played well. The guitars come off sounding polyrhythmic at some points, though not in a cool artistic way; more like a 'the timing is kind of wonky' way. Soloing is really nice, but the recording is poop, and starts sounding more and more like those lo-fi drums. Halfway through this song, the piece really loses a lot of energy. That ending is so weak. You have nice ideas, and guitar skillz. What I want to see is some good production skills, and a better arrangement. Like Danny B said, it seems incohesive. The arrangement is not logical; it's jumpy and doesn't really take me anywhere. The ideas are strung together, rather than melded. This has serious potential, but I think that the arrangement issues especially keep it from a YES from me. NO
  12. I agree with Baranowsky; this is clipping like a barber. I'm YES-ing the arrangement, but I think we should we contact the mixer for a non clipping version. Yes?
  13. Ugh. Please stop doing that first post garbage. Anyway, really sweet mix here Kaijin. Really sounds nice; smooth and happy, just as music should be. Perhaps a bit too straightforward in arrangement though. Nice werk over all.
  14. Not much else to say. Good stuff here. I like it. Groovy and stuff and stuff. I'll close this out with a YES.
  15. Just received this PM from the mixer today, on May 20, 2004. Shall we relisten and revote?
  16. I'm in agreement with Vigilante. While the arrangement is mostly reiterations of the same theme, this is a pretty good rendition of the tune. Dynamics are used very well here. Samples get the job done, and you used them pretty well. Could have used more rearrangement, but certainly passable. YES
  17. This mix sounds so empty. A lot of it is a crappy synth guitar and drums, with no bassline or any kind of harmonic support. Boring and lifeless. The beats are not groovy, and the melody is quite jumpy. I just can't get into this; sounds really amateurish. NO
  18. This is an exact replica of the original. Way to get my hopes up. *NO OVERRIDE*
  19. I love Relm's theme. Don't mess it up. Okay. The drum track sounds really extraneous. There are some nice change-ups, but it gets a bit repetitive. Sounds to me that the piano is just too loud too, compared to the drum track so there's a balace issue. Sounds like the drummer is sitting WAAAAAY in the back of a big room, and the piano is right up near the door, and we're standing in the doorway. The piano is pretty nice though. I'm going to say NO on this one, but please consider fixing up the piece. Maybe eliminating the drum track altogether would help?
  20. This is so lifeless. The sax sounds very mechanical. Vary up your velocities once in a while. The drums are the same 1-bar loop over and over again, and they seem to stress count 1 all the time, which is a no-no in most forms of jazz. As for the arrangement, it's a bit repetitive and it doesn't really go anywhere. No highs, no lows, no nothing. Boring. While I can hear the source tune in this, it's not all that prevalent, and I wouldn't be able to tell you that this is a Goron mix upon the first 50 listens. Balance between the insturments is off too. Sax is too quiet, guitar is too loud. Here's a tip about jazz: it has to sound live. That means that the drummer won't play the same thing over and over again for three minutes. The saxophonist won't play every single note at the same volume. You will hear the arrangement build and release; you'll hear varying degrees of intensity in the same song. If you're writing 'jazz,' you need to capture that. This piece does not capture that. NO
  21. Straight guitar cover over drumloops. Pretty unimaginative. The guitar is too loud and fills my ears in a bad way. I sincerely hope you do have something better up your sleeve. NO
