  1. I really wish that bassline would change up once in a while. That and the drums. However, this does have a nice sound to it. I'm not a big fan of the lyrics or how they sound (sounds like tiny room reverb), but I can see how people would enjoy something like this. Pretty intense; not my cup of tea, but not bad. YES
  2. Okay guys. So this is a piece that got rejected by the panel shortly before I joined. I took some suggestions to heart and added some stuff I had wanted to do in the first iteration but didn't get a chance to. Here's the song: It's a remix of Zero's Themes from MMX1-3, using the X2 Zero Theme as the basis. I hope you at least enjoy.
  3. Lets close this out, shall we? I fail to find the 'raw energy' Danny B mentions. This piece felt rather drab to me. The super old-school sounds weren't bad, but they sounded rather dry. Percussion didn't really do much to build any kind of momentum or tension either; while the patterns changed, the basic feel remained thougout. Pretty boring if you ask me. NO
  4. Piano is so mechanical it hurts. Percussion is repetitive, and the bassline really sounds like something that would be ripped straight from the game. There are no highs and lows to this piece, really. It just keeps going with those eighth note intervals over and over without amounting to much. NO
  5. Um, if you're not going to ask or answer a question, please don't post in the thread.
  6. The opening sound reminds me of the Emperor of Balladry from Treasure Hunter G; nice glassy sound. However, everything in this sounds very faraway and distant. The reverb might be a bit much. Vig said cavernous, but for me it's just hollow and thin sounding. Aside from that, the arrangement is really repetitive. Voices are layered over eachother at different times, but it doesn't really seem like there's much interpretation here; mostly lines lifted out of the MIDI. While this isn't a rip, I wish you'd take some more chances with a song like this. An interesting sound, but my vote is NO.
  7. OMG PROT UR THE SUCK! So yeah, I'm in agreement with Prot's points. Not long enough for what it attempts to accomplish, and rather boring and dissonant; not in that cool artistic way, but in that wrong-notes kind of way. NO
  8. I really wish there was more to this. It's definitely trance; no question about that, but what I'm say is that all there really is to this is the lead, the bass, and the percussion. As a result, it comes off sounding very empty. It's also repetitive; its the same filter/defilter over and over again. NO
  9. I judged this for IMC18. I ranked it first. Here's what I wrote: So yeah, aside from the minor repetitiveness, I like it. YES
  10. It seems to me that once the shoomp-tss percussion starts going, the piece doesn't really develop into anything substantial. Some string work might have been appropriate, or perhaps bringing that organ back for some more in-depth organ work; but really, this came off a bit boring. The ending was kinda weak too. NO
  11. "Several effects" doesn't begin to describe it. Anyway, like Vig said, musical parts are pretty weak. Everything feels like its in the same range, except for the pizzacato strings. Basically, if I took out the sound effects from this song, the mix would be pretty weak. The arrangement isn't all that interesting, and everything seems to be crammed into the low side of the pyramid of sound. That means this song is a bit gimmicky. NO, but I encourage you to work on musical aspects and resubmit.
  12. RISE FROM YOUR GRAVE!!! This is sure to be a cult classic. Seriously though, what's up with the cheesy delayed voices and distorted laughing in the middle? Is this characteristic of metal? Anyway, guitar playing is nice I guess, but a bit mufflely with the cheesy amp-reverb. I'm going to borderline YES this, but if any judge can convince me otherwise, I'm changing my vote. I'm convinced. NO
  13. I found this mix to be pretty uninteresting. The synths were typical and the arrangement felt like it was dragging a bit. Kudos for using trumpet in a dance mix, but shame on you for using such a terrible sample. Percussion was very boring too, which was a bit disappointing, because there were some interesting sounds in the intro. NO
  14. Not bad as far as electronica goes, but it's still a fairly "bmmtss" arrangement of Aya's Theme. I kept waiting for the crazy-sick breakdown, but all I got was the same stuff over and over again. Not bad but unremarkable all the same. NO
  15. I really like the mood, sounds, and arrangement in general. There are some very nice points, such as 2:14, that really shine with this track. Piano is organic and pretty, even if it's a bit bright for my tastes. However, I'm not a big fan of the synth improv solo in the middle of this track. It uses blue notes to no end, which, in my opinion, doesn't fit with the mood of the song. There's a very airy, epic quality to the song, and the blue-note riddled solo sticks out like a sore thumb. It feels very inappropriate and gratuitous, especially with the surrounding material. There are also a few points in this track where things get too busy, particularly when the piano plays under the synth lead. The balance feels off. I'd like to pass this track, but I can't get past that solo. Borderline NO. Old vote, kthx. Scroll down for the big YES.
  16. Tricky! Percussion is tight and tricky as hell, as well as noisy in a good way. Very cool grooves. Synthy leads are neat, with very nice filtering and distortion thrown on. Not much more to say about this; it's raw and fun. YES
  17. Hm. Aluminum. There's a name I haven't seen in a while. Thanks for providing the source tune for us. Very nice groove. I'm enjoying the chill atmosphere. Great sounds all around, save the rather synthy flute. I could have done with something more natural, but that's a minor, personal gripe. Arrangement is varied and doesn't get boring. I agree with the direct post sentiment by DJP. YES
  18. Adding effects to your generators is something that's available in the online help. Please check that out before asking such a basic question. That said, I'll answer your question, cause I'm a nice guy and I rock etc. In your Channel Settings window for the generator there's an LCD number up at the top corner marked FX. That's the FX channel the generator is sending to. You can drag that number up and down to change the FX channel. In FL hit F9 to bring up the Effects/Mixer window. This will show you all the FX channels. Select the one that your generator is set to and start adding effects in the dropdown menus. FL has a bunch of them. Experiment. Anyway, like I said, something like this is a very simple question that can easily be figured out on one's own or by reading the manual. We're glad to answer questions, but please make an effort to help yourself with basic priciples. It's like asking how to change the tempo.
  19. Your submission ettiquette was fine. All the necessary information without prattling on incessantly about your personal life. Nice work. As for the mix, I'm afraid I'm in agreement with Vig. While this is not painful to listen to, I think that its rather simplistic as far as a techno arrangement goes. The gating rhythm is not all that interesting, and the percussion is a bit repetitive. I could have done with something that had a bit more energy. Not terrible, but unremarkable. NO
  20. Great intro. Very substantial stuff. Typical Mark Vera HQ sounds. No complaints there. The arrangement is nice and dynamic, with a good amount of variation. 3:17 in particular really rocks. Very groovy stuff. JA
  21. I'm in agreement with the others. The arrangement is pretty lackluster. Hardly any highs and lows, and there's much too much reverb on that kick drum. The strings and the kickdrum 'verb are filling up the space in a bad, muffely kind of way. Work on arrangement and variation, as well as balance between your sounds. NO
  22. When you die, God will send you to Heaven, because you remixed Kirby music, and mixed it well. There are some wonky notes here and there, but they're few and far between, so I'm gonna say YES. Although I really think we should get a version that fixes the glitch at 1:05.
  23. Being 'broke' is not an excuse to steal software. Piracy is not allowed on OCR.
  24. The drums are just really lo-fi, although they're played well. The guitars come off sounding polyrhythmic at some points, though not in a cool artistic way; more like a 'the timing is kind of wonky' way. Soloing is really nice, but the recording is poop, and starts sounding more and more like those lo-fi drums. Halfway through this song, the piece really loses a lot of energy. That ending is so weak. You have nice ideas, and guitar skillz. What I want to see is some good production skills, and a better arrangement. Like Danny B said, it seems incohesive. The arrangement is not logical; it's jumpy and doesn't really take me anywhere. The ideas are strung together, rather than melded. This has serious potential, but I think that the arrangement issues especially keep it from a YES from me. NO
