  1. Okay Bhai-sahib. Here's the verdict. This piece doesn't go anywhere. It's very flatline in terms of development. Things start out one way and they don't REALLY change. There's a nice texture here with all the different sounds, but the song itself kind of boring throughout. Also, the melody is never really iterated. It sounds a lot like you just took the chord progression and wrote the song based on that. I could have done with a clearer arrangement of the source tune. Don't worry Bhai-Sahib. You've come a long way in a short time. Just keep going. NO
  2. The sounds don't mesh well together, and the drums are way too loopy. There's no coherence to the piece. It seems like it's just 'going through the motions.' It also sounds like the same reverb is applied to the whole thing, rather than individually on each channel. This is pretty amateurish. NO
  3. I like this. Reminds me a little of Ziwtra's Willed Assault. Very slick interpretation of the source tunes. The intro is a little long, but that's a minor gripe. However, I think that your drums are a bit too loud, especially the breakdown that comes in the latter half of the song. They really fill out the spectrum and sort of cover everything up. It's the reverb on the toms that's doing it. Something like this can be EASILY rememedied. I'd like to see you work on issues like that and the aforementioned ones and SERIOUSLY go for a resubmit. Private Message one of the judges about the resubmit once you clean things up (either me or Liontamer would probably be good). I'm going to say NO for now, because while those issues are not too huge, they still hold this mix back and fixing them would definitely benefit the piece. PLEASE RESUBMIT
  4. What's with the anti-climactic reverse cymbal? Bassline needs more definition. It's bleeding together and sounds very weak overall. This whole thing lacks bass. This thing just takes too long to go from idea to idea, and the ideas that are there are just really similar overall. It's very boring; there's not much variation throughout, and the continuo line gets really old after 5 minutes. NO
  5. Eek...samples. Very old school synthesizer, when it's not meant to be. Comes off pretentious, rather than epic, considering you don't really have a lot going on aside from synth string and synth horns. Not a lot of balance either; some things sound too trebley. Not very effective; the arranement is basic, repetitive, and clichéd, and the lack of good production values (sampling, mastering) doesn't help. And the ending is so cheesy it hurts. Not particularly bad, but underwhelming all the same. NO
  6. I read MTV:MG2 and I was expecting something a lot worse. That's not to say this is really awesome however. There's clipping EVERYWHERE. Aside from that, coverage of the source material is pretty basic, although not a bad sound. Unfortunately if you're going to submit to OC, you've gotta have a lot more than just standard four-on-the-floor with detuned saws. Stuff is bleeding together, there's a general feel of muffledness, and the aforementioned clipping. The arrangement gets old about halfway though; it's too long for what it does, but no long enough for what is attempted. NO
  7. Obviously you DON'T know Neskvartetten, seeing as how Neskvartettan is not one person, it's a jazz combo. Also, if you've never heard the original, how do you know it doesn't cover the core melody? Your thoughts on this mix are totally unfounded, seeing as how many of the groups mixes do cover the source material adequately, albeit creatively. Do your homework before making such ridiculous statements.
  8. Yeah. Of course, you know, because you linked it and everything. http://soundfonts.darkesword.com/ When you're pointing someone in the direction of where to find something on the internet, it's always a good idea to provide a link. DarkeSword's page could easily mean www.darkesword.com.
  9. Eh...I dunno about this one. It's got a nice sound to it; personally I like the synths and the beat. However, it's just really repetitive, especially that part starting around 1:09. It just feels very boring. I think there could be more interesting things going on during the fifth or sixth iteration of the line. It sounds dead with not even so much as some basic hatwork going on. It's got a clear, clean sound, but the arrangement is pretty basic. Enjoyable in it's own right, but it doesn't really push the bar. NO
  10. I just did a supersmall update to soundfonts.darkesword.com. Florestan Woodwinds is up for maximum oboe ownage. Enjoy.
  11. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA I got the spacebeam! Nice work Star. There's definitely coverage there, albeit in a very interpretive fashion. Lyrics get the job done. Plus, unlike some recent rap submissions, it's not just an original rapped over. A little short, yes, but I think it's passable. YES
  12. I agree with this. Locked down mixes should not be replaced. However, what if we treat this as a removal of an old mix, and a posting of a new mix? In effect, OCR00664 would be removed as any other track is removed (because mixers always have the right to have their tracks removed from the site), but Infectious Oldskool would be posted as OCR011xx (whatever we're upto). Or we could just not post this and recommend to people in this decision to check it out anyway, so that we don't set a bad precedent that could eventually lead to a lot of replacement headaches. Just a few thoughts.
  13. What the hell? I definitely already voted on this one. Where'd my vote go? Bah. Anyway, this is what the kids call 'tite.' SURE
  14. Whoa kick. Too damn loud; those low freqs are killing my ears. Everything is drowned out buy that kick; what's there is fairly repetitive and inorganic sounding. Beats aren't particularly compelling eiher; they most certainly are not phat. NO
  15. As early as 1:55 this mix is just too repetitive. It's very boring; that drumline is the same thing over and over again. Not much melodic play or interpretation going on either. Overall, a good sound, but it's pretty weak arrangement-wise. NO
  16. Whoa...what a crappy guitar synth. All of those sounds are pretty bad. There goes the drumloop. Boring, repetitive, uneffective. There's clipping too. Sounds like you used a MIDI file and cut and paste parts. NO
  17. Not much else to say. Minimal and repetitive is the name of game here. Flute's too damn loud too. No balance! Work on making this more interesting and balanced. NO
  18. Good thing we have more than just Prot judging mixes then, right? Anyway, those horns are terrible, and the percussion is ridiculously weak in the context...actually in any context. TAP TAP TAP TAP. NO
  19. We're gonna catch a lot of flak on this for being uncultured yokels or some stupid shit people like to say, but I'm gonna close this out with NO, basically for the reasons already mentioned. That horn halfway in is SO unnatural compared to the stronger sounds throughout the mix. Work on it and resubmit.
  20. What exactly IS the policy regarding mixes in 'lockdown'? Won't this potentially mess up the bittorrent download? I think it's a great mix; I vote YES for replacement, but because SID of Rage is so similar, I vote NO for new mix, on the grounds that it would violate some kind of policy. I mean, it's just two versions of the same, mix, right? Tricky. EDIT: I just want to clarify that I'm only voting YES if DJP allows for replacements. So don't consider this passed yet, unless we get the final word on the policy.
  21. NO Stuff like this is really a waste of time.
  22. Messy, amateurish, no production values, plus its a cover. NO
  23. It's a rip. Can't we just override this? Oh well. In agreement. Touched up original, with drums. NO
