  1. Are you writing everything in one or two patterns?! Umm...use the playlist. Seriously. If you're using a pre-4.0 version of FL (you shouldn't be, if you bought it D:: Open up your playlist and click on the first bar in the pattern 1 row. Make sure you know how long that pattern is. Go that many bars over and click on the next bar in pattern 2's row. Make sure you know how long that pattern is. Then click on the last bar in some random empty pattern. Click on the song light next to the play button. Render. If you're using 4.0 or later: Open up your playlist and click on the first bar in the pattern 1 row. The pattern should show up with it's length on the playlist. Click on the pattern 2 row in the bar right after pattern 1 ends. Click on the song light next to the play button. Render.
  2. I think you're right when saying that it's justifiably short. This piece offers a lot in terms of creativity and arrangement. The bassline is golden man, and when that organ comes in I'm shakin' my head like "YEAH BUDDY." This piece really accomplished what it sets out to do quite nicely. Even if its a bit short, it gets the job done. I really like the vibe you've got going here. Good stuffs.
  3. Yeah, just a quick word about samples. The Gundam mix I did uses only default FL samples from 3.4. Every other song I have one this site, as well as all the FL songs I have on my site, is done using free samples. Oh, and the Slayer VST. But that comes with FLStudio 4.12. Unless you're super hardcore about the samples you use, free soundfonts should be just fine. Take a look at my pieces like Ancient Hero and Dream Pipe. All free, legal samples.
  4. Are you talking about just exporting a pattern? If so, when you render to wav, set your looping mode to cut remainder or wrap remainer. This will make it so that it doesn't render any left over reverb or delay. Cut remainder will just cut it off, and wrap remainder will render the left over sound on top of the beginning of your loop (wrap is good if you're making drumloops etc).
  5. Well, you need to link whatever you want to change to the controller itself. For example, right-click the channel's Cut knob, and click on "Link to controller..." A dialogue box should come up, with a section marked "Internal Controller." Just click on the little drop down menu to select which controller you want to use. X-Y usually has two options, the X axis and the Y axis. You can basically link anything to a controller. X-Y is a controller, not an actual effect, so it doesn't actually do anything to the sound; it just provides values that other effects use. Hope that helps.
  6. The best part about the show was me screaming "and darkesword with dream pipe" ONE MILLION TIMES in the chat during the last 15 minutes of the show, and Larry not noticing until the very end as he was about to sign off. Read the transcript; you'll see what I'm talking about.
  7. You know how much I love the full version man. This is hands down one of my favorite songs. Period. I think you've done an excellent job constructing an excellent smooth texture with this song, and the balance between everything is just right. Excellent work man, as always. SOLID™
  8. Yay for chat logging. Good stuffs man. Gooooooood stuffffffffs. SOLID™
  9. GrayLightning is like me. He's totally awesome. Anyway, I already told you what I thought of this piece dude. Great stuff; lots of nice asian influences, and a really unique percussion part. Excellent.
  10. I missed the show; I was in NY at my cousin's birthday. Any of my tracks played?
  11. The wonky transitions are definately teh lose. The stuff that's there is fantastic, but I don't like how everything is strung together. There are places where transitions just come out of NOWHERE. I mean, the guitar playing is SICK, but there's hardly any development as far as arrangement is concerned. It like the Brotherhood said "hey we can play this part, and this part, and this part. So lets just put them all together." Really abrupt transitions in this song ruin it for me; incredibly sweet guitar playing, no question. If I was half as good as this...well...damn. Yeah. Sorry guys. I really want to enjoy this, but there's a significant amount of "WHAT JUST HAPPENED?" in here.
  12. In his defense, he could be thinking about Sonic 2's HPZ. Yeah, because obviously this mix is a remix of that song. It says so right up there. "Sonic the Hedg--" oh wait; it says "Sonic & Knuckles." All sarcasm aside. Thanks everyone for the kind words. Personally, I think it's a fine REMIX. If you can't hear Hidden Palace in this song, go back and listen to Hidden Palace again, because the opening sax phrase is nearly verbatim. The chords might be throwing you off though.
  13. You can't have played it to death without remembering the awesomeness that is Hidden Palace Zone.
  14. Hey man, some DarkeSword music is always nice, right? I've got an original track I finished recently, and also my Ancient Hero mix could do with some playtime. Bother me on AIM about the original track though; I need to give you the full skinny on that.
  15. Well, I don't use it for the actual funky rhythm stuff. I just wanted to make a 'triplet' chopper that would let me write triplets easier, instead of manually changing note durations. Anyway, if anyone can help, that'd be great. This probably won't help, but take a look at how many EFFECTS you're running on each channel. Sometimes that really kills you in performance, and you can usually get the same sound by using your effects more efficiently. I ran into a similar problem with an earlier version of my Twinkle Park mix, so I took a look at the effects, cut some out, and basically "optimized" my effects usage. For example, sometimes you can get away with having two channels set to the same FX channel for reverb, if your instruments are similar. Try some stuff like that. If all else fails, get more RAM. I run 1GB of RAM, and I don't really hit problems anymore.
  16. It should just work automatically. Just make sure you click the little joystick icon on the X-Y controller's window and assign the proper joystick axes to the X and Y using the buttons under the joystick toggle. As for me, I'm wondering if anyone knows how to make their own Piano Roll Chopper patterns for FLStudio.
  17. Not sure about a free one, but I believe you need to be using the latest version of FL in order to register your SF Player. It shouldn't be a problem if you own your copy of FL, as you get free updates for life, so you'll always have the current version. SF Player costs $35 to register. For purchasing information about FL, head over to http://www.flstudio.com
  18. They actually don't share the chords; I just adapted Lava Reef's continuo line to Ice Cap's chords.
  19. Jeez, are you sure you're not listening to MY midi? It's called IceCap Zone Snowboard strike, and it's available at my page. I wrote that MIDI years ago and reused a lot of the same ideas in this mix.
