I love this song, video is great too

Xaleph reacted to Shadowlight in OCR04667 - Final Fantasy IV & VIII "Time Flies"
Everything about this remix hits hard. The all encompassing Red Wings theme looming in the background, the soaring guitar closing out, a sprinkle of Compression of Time to add to the mood, and just a powerful attention to detail!

Xcellent team effort from team SNES.
Xaleph leads with great creativity as always. At times this has more mellowness then I xpect, but that's a joy. He's a master of psytrance, so anytime he breaks it up with dipping into other genres or changing up the feel it's awesome.
The guitar was also a highlight as it injected just the oomph of energy it needed to close things out. Love it!

I like the flex between different genres and you're still able to keep focus and direction of the mix. Great job Jorito.

An aggressive delight. Love the popcorn synth at the start before the takeover by guitar. Audiomint's voice is dreamy and ethereal as always. The change around 2:50 is chef's-kiss. The dark mood suffused throughout comes to the fore. Soaring guitar around 4:30, but in the background...wow, fantastic. That change at the end of the "verse" too...Mmm! The surprise around 6:10? Yes.
Amazing.

Xaleph reacted to Liontamer in OCR03674 - Mirror's Edge "Far Away"
The piece does generally stay in one gear, but it ebbs and flows nicely within that gear. Cool lil' mood piece, and an interesting direction to take it in, going instrumental and more of a groove-based vibe. Loved when the beats dropped out to let the lush textures shine through as well.

Very chill, but still has nice momentum to it. This would make great BGM for work or study.

Transporting is right. The noise crunches as percussion as well as the spacious audio give me Massive Attack vibes. This is something that you could leave on in the background while coding, or easily fit into a playlist of driving music for when you're cruising at high speed. While I'm not familiar with the OST (but have seen enough of the gameplay) and thus the source isn't necessarily familiar, this creates a shimmering crystalline ephemeral space that leaves me breathless. Beautiful.

Xaleph reacted to Dyluck in OCR03475 - Undeadline "Marching Towards Roshufa's Spirit"
The intro is already going when we get started and then we're at high octane from then on. And everything from there just keeps getting better and better as various surprises are thrown in from left and right. This ReMix is a trip, as we are thrown from idea to idea to idea like electricity arcing from point to point. Perfectly captures the vibes of a shmup.

When the strings hit, I was like "Whooooooooa! This is my favorite part!" and then even more cool instrumentation kept dropping in as things kept shifting. Very dynamic and, at nearly 5 1/2 minutes, it does a great job evolving and justifying the length. Fun energy!

Xaleph reacted to derezr in OCR03453 - Halo 5 "The Eye of Osiris"
I'm not familiar with the source, but this remix rocks. I love the build up, and resolve at the end.

Orchestra meets metal, the classic combo. Yes, I'm a sucker for strings and a drum kit and overdriven guitars. The atmospheric intro gives no indication of the rock that's about to hit your face, and that's good...when that build up goes through and the storm breaks on multiple occasions, it's great. There's some echo between piano and guitar that works really well too. But the thing that gets me is the synth bass...I would say that this is what gives this track its distinctive character and makes it memorable.

Groovy! The synth work is absolutely killer. The drums hit hard, and the way you arranged the source works great. Sir Nuts always has great stuff, and this is no different. The dubstep elements later on in the song are sexy af.

Yo, funky groove... and then tasteful vox that leads into a sick pitched wub... yes please. This is some damn fine work.
The Sir_NutS are, as always, addictive...you can never stop with just one bite...

Breaking news: the sir nuts track is indeed a banger. It's so groovy and cool and I love it so much

How has no one said anything? :( This is actually such a wide arrangement that isn't trapped in a single genre, I love it.

I love all the remixes from this album, and once this one gets going, it really swings!

Good jazz always hits the spot, and this smashed it into the ground. I'm always a huge fan of mallet instruments so the vibraphone just elevated this for me

I love the drums in this song. These kinds of songs are why I use ride cymbals in every song.
Every elements comes together very well and the instrumentation is very professionally done. Good work on this one.

Really loved the Lavos intro, got into the groove, and then when the Burn Bobonga came in it brought a huge smile to my face. Everything in this is impeccable. It really has a live recording feel. The interpretation is amazing.

Xaleph got a reaction from Master Mi in Does anyone know how to effectively set stereo delay parameters for creating realistic room acoustics?
Essentially you want something that combines either in parallel or in sequence the delay -> reverb so mimic various rooms. Using a tool to get the correct bouncing and frequency range after the sound bounces off different walls will give you the ability to program each of these effectively mimicking a room. There are several VSTs and tools that do this and you can create your own fx chains to do something similar.
Running them in parallel is a quick way to trick the ear to think it's in a room - however, the correct way would be to set up several to mimic each surface in the room or to use the profile tool I mentioned - which will take in the initial delay and the spread after the first bounce/reflection. Either way, it's really using both delay and reverb to mimic the physics of how sound bounces off (delay) and spreads/decays (reverb) off each surface in your room. I understand that the tooling is different, but to science, it's the same, we're just mimicking the behavior with something that decays and something that repeats with less volume (and other effects).
I hope this helps!

I was watching a tutorial on how to profile a reverb in a specific place using some tools. Like, I think you use some kind of beep or tap and record it using this device, and then it comes up with the reverb profile (or something like that?). I can dig through my sources, but I thought it was related to this topic and definitely interesting.

Xaleph reacted to jnWake in Tools we use
Figured I could share the stuff I used in my latest track, most of it is stuff I use in other tracks as well. I'll highlight those that haven't been mentioned (I think):
Drums
Addictive Drums 2. Battery 4. Basically, I start with AD2 sound and then layer some extra stuff from Battery 4 to enhance the kit. I also use Battery 4 stuff for transitions.
Synths and similar
FM8 Massive/MassiveX Plogue chipsounds for chiptunes. (Here!) Effects
Guitar Rig for distortion on bass, guitars and keyboards. ReEQ for EQ, it's a free JS plug-in that has nice functions like side/mid EQ. (You can find it here!) OTT. TAL Reverb. (Here!) Ferric Saturator. (Here!) kilohearts suite (limiter mostly). Melda suite (saturation!). isotope Ozone for mastering. I also use a lot of libraries from Komplete 8 for stuff but I'm a bit lazy to list them all...
