OCR01114 - Dance Dance Revolution 4th Mix "4F73R M3"
Atomic Dog replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
SGX, you are hands down one of the best artists on OCR. I freakin' love this song. I can't get enough of it. I've had it on repeat (along with your other DDR song) in my mp3 player since OCR released it. And since I'm in a half-sober posting mood on a Friday night waiting for 10:00 to roll around, I just felt the need to post this since I happen to be listening to the song right this very minute. Very very cool. It makes me want to dance around my apartment. Which I'll probably do in a few minutes. Keep it up (btw, Synesthetic is pretty damn good too!) -
OCR01125 - Astérix (NES) "Niggaz 4 Life"
Atomic Dog replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
For all you anti-rap folks, try listen to the mix without listening to the lyrics. Try to listen to the harmony and not focus on the individual words. Because this is a really really good mix, even if you don't appreciate the hip-hop genre. AND, I have to say, it's a very unique sound to the genre too. I can't really think of anyone hip-hop/rap artist that might have been inspiration here. The closest I can think of is Cool Breeze. Or Atmosphere. Maybe. Anyway, I really like it. As for the repetitive use of the word "niggaz" - who cares. It's just a word. If it'll make all the philistines feel better, make your own mix and use the word "honkey" a lot. I won't bust your chops over it, promise. Oh, and this mix is EXACTLY what OCR is all about. Video game music taken to new and interesting places. Anyone can take an .nsf and throw in synth and drum loops. Few people can do it really well. But only one in a million can do something like this. It's interesting, it's creative, and frankly, it's pretty nice on the ears. 10/10. Good job ABG. -
OCR01127 - Resident Evil 2 "Ada's Groove"
Atomic Dog replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
This is a great mix! Strong sounds, deep bass, perfectly tied in with a well-done melody. It sounds absolutely bitchin' in my car. -
OCR00010 - Streets of Rage "Wah-Wah"
Atomic Dog replied to Joe Redifer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
You know... I'm not having a really good day today. So, I resigned myself to the fact that some things and some people will never change, and I locked myself in the house and started drinking (as is my forte in situations like these). And, in the meantime, I enjoy listening to music. Don't ask me why, but this song really hit the spot today. It just jived with everything that seems to be swimming in my head, as if giving a beat and a theme to it. It has nothing to do with Streets of Rage or the premise of those games.. it was just as if the piece was the appropriate background music to my life right now. DJP, you so rule. -
OCR01048 - Super Metroid "One Girl in All the World"
Atomic Dog replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Good god man. This has EASILY made its way into my personal, aesthetic list of Greatest OverClocked Remixes. Not in anyway to degrade the AWESOME works that have been recently done (and they ARE awesome, I've kept almost every single one), but this is above and beyond in ways I can't even describe. Suffice to say, I have three sub-folders in my OCR folder - "Mellow", "Kinetic", "Atomic" (Yea, I name my folders weird shit. Shut up, it's my computer.), this one goes into the extra special Atomic folder for songs I listen to more frequently than others. Great great GREAT job. It pains me that I lack the knowledge to describe all the technical details that make this piece so great. But let me put it the best I can - beginning to end, it totally, completely captivates me. I can see this is going to be one of those that I turn on when I kill all the lights, rocket up the volume, and immerse myself in music. -
You know, when I first listened to this, I was really turned off. It was ALL over the place, and that apparant lack of fluidity was really bugging me. But, ever the curious listener, I followed the link in DJPs description and downloaded all his other songs. I've been listening to them on repeat/shuffle for about an hour now, with this song included, and I have to say, it's really really really grown on me. I think part of the problem is, when I go to review a song, I really make an effort to consciously listen to it. And I think that was messing things up for me. But when I queued all his other songs and sat down to read for class tomorrow, I found my head bobbing, my ankle thumping to the beat, and I realized - hey! I really like this! I get the impression that bazooie probably does a lot of continuous mixing (like at a club or something), becuase that's how a lot of this sounds. It's all over the place, but when you just let it fill the room, you see how perfectly it all fits together. Damn good job.

OCR01013 - Ecco: The Tides of Time (SCD) "Drift"
Atomic Dog replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Hmmmmmmmm.... *licks song* It tastes pretty good to me. You know, all mellow and vibey. I love a song that takes you places - and this does just that. It's literally one of those songs that walks you through a "story". Whether it be the Ecco story or some funky thing in my head, it's a good background piece to whatever mood you're in. I like it. -
OCR00977 - Final Fantasy VI "Kefka Goes Carnival"
Atomic Dog replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
You know.... once it gets started... this is actually a pretty golly gosh darn good song! The first 30 seconds are just garbage.... but it's like a twinky. If you can get past the icky yellow exterior, that gooey middle is just pure pleasure. This IS a good song. It makes me dance about my apartment in my underwear - and that's always a good sign (don't tell anyone). I like it. She's a keeper. -
OCR01006 - Sonic the Hedgehog "sonik special"
Atomic Dog replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
You know... I love sonic mixes, and I love analoq's work... but for some reason, I just can't find myself keeping this song. I dunno, it just rubs me the wrong way or something. Mind you, I couldn't tell you what it is about it... there's a little of everything. The sound just seems off, it seems repetitive, it doesn't strike me with anything particular about the game... Usually one of those things (in small doses) wouldn't be enough to bug me, but for god knows what reason, the culmination of all this does. Sorry. -
OCR00882 - Sonic the Hedgehog 3 "Sonik Azure"
Atomic Dog replied to Disco Dan's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I found myself listening to this today, and I got to thinking... This really is one of the best songs on OCR. Seriously, I made a disc of all my absolute favorites to study to (honestly, this stuff is GREAT for getting the mental juices flowing) and this is, I think, the sixth track on the album. That's not to rank it or anything, it just jives nicely with the ones before and after it. Also, since I'm talking about what a badass song this is, this was one of my first OCR keepers - back in the day when I felt that I didn't have the HDD space to devote a bunch of game remixes to my music library. So feel special in the fact that yours has always been one of the elite. I wish I could say something musical about it, but I just don't have the vocabulary. It just plain sounds good. If you want the picture that forms in my head... I see a spikey-haired blue hedgehog standing on the top of a cliff wailing on an electric guitar while the entire world spins around him, as if he was the only being on a planet that literally revolved around him. Damn I want to be that hedgehog. Seriously, this is one of my favorite remixes on the entire site. -
OCR00943 - Sonic the Hedgehog 3 "Her Azure Eyes"
Atomic Dog replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Ack, don't listen to them. I love this song. -
OCR01002 - Final Fantasy VII "Light and Flakey"
Atomic Dog replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Hmm.... Aesthetically, I have to say I really like it. It is genuinely pleasing to the ear, and it definetly drums up memories of the time and place of the song. It's defintely a keeper. But at the same time, I don't know if I can really see it as reflective of the original. I mean, when I listen to it, I don't picture poor pre-sane Cloud wandering around in the snow (that IS the piece, correct?). That aside however, this is a great piece and you should be very proud. I look forward to hearing more. -
OCR01001 - Street Fighter II "Sagat's Moonbike"
Atomic Dog replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Meh... I haven't cared much for the Street Fighter remixes on OCR. It's not to say that the artists lack ability, I just think that when it comes to SF, they really have shit to work with. This is no exception. I had to go back and listen to the original track to get the gist of what was being done here, and I DO have to say, you do justice to the original, with a few exceptions. Forgive my lack of musical knowledge, but the effects starting at 0:45, 2:57, and 3:29, I don't know what those are called, but they actually made my ears hurt. I literally turned away instinctively. And from 2:05 - 2:40, I got a really crunchy sound out of my speakers whenever the song was hitting low notes. I'm not sure what it was, but I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with my end. As for the song as a whole, it's not bad. It's got a really cool, mellow feel to it, and I could imagine myself grooving to it, but in all honesty, I can't see myself keeping it on the HDD. Keep up the work though, the talent is certainly there. I personally blame this one on the original piece. -
OCR01000 - Super Mario RPG "Booster Tarantino"
Atomic Dog replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I am so putting the top down when I ride with this playing in my car. This has that open linen shirt, sunglasses, hair blowing feel to it as you're cruising doing 65 down a sun parched highway. Definetly dig that. I was a little perturbed when I first started listening because I wasn't picking up the SMRPG vibe, but then when I started NOT listening for it, I realized how it was there so sublime. Very cool DJP. I bet it would have come out really well using a six-string as the dominant instrument too. -
OCR00999 - Donkey Kong Country 2 "Savage Seduction"
Atomic Dog replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Wow, very cool. And let me give you the honor of being the first person to add a Donkey Kong remix to my library. Admittedly, I have a very deep seeded prejudice against Donkey Kong, and although I've given every DK song on OCR a listen, it either wasn't very good or bothered me to the point where I didn't want to hear it. But this is different. It still reminds me of Donkey Kong, but it doesn't remind me of all the reasons I hate the game (or any of its spinoffs). So, special congrats for that. Aesthetically pleasing and wholly impressive. -
OCR00994 - Final Fantasy VII "Where Destiny Meets"
Atomic Dog replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
*smacks head* Oh right! I totally hear it now, especially for the first 50 seconds and the last 10. Very cool. And it would be nice if it were longer. -
OCR00994 - Final Fantasy VII "Where Destiny Meets"
Atomic Dog replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I like it. Quiet, mellow, relaxing, probably good to have sex to. (I see my lady's head bobbing to the music on the couch across the room. ) Although, for the life of me, I can't place the track. Which is really weird, considering I JUST replayed FF7. (incidently, don't let any of these philistines tell you FF7 sucks as a game and isn't worth remixing - afaic, it's the best one they ever made, especially plotwise). I'm not really sure how to describe a review. There's nothing bad whatsoever, but there's nothing that jumps at your attention. It's just a generally pleasant song through and through. Good work, and looking foward to future submissions. -
OCR00993 - Streets of Rage "Trippin' on the Bridge"
Atomic Dog replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
How coincidental is it that I post a story about how Gecko affects my life (in the shower), and then a few hours later, a new remix by him arrives. Do you know what this means? I AM THE MASTER OF THE COSMOS!!!!!! Or something. I don't know if this one is shower-dancing quality. It doesn't really have that kind of jumpy, bubbly sound to it, but that's not to say it isn't awesome. Because it is. It's awesome on a whole other level. Mellow, but at the same time, you can totally groove to it. I like stuff like that. One minor minor gripe.... I don't care for the exit. Kinda sounds like you weren't totally sure to end it, so you just found a beat and faded it out. Not a big deal though, doesn't hurt the song one whit. This one's a keeper. -

So I gotta tell you this story... I wake up this morning and I take a shower as I always do. Well, my girlfriend decides she wants to surprise me with a nice little shower-for-two. So, she comes into the bathroom and, as usual, I have a a CD playing. She opens up the stall and there I am under the water just dancing my brains out. She stands there, her jaw open, and then she busts up laughing and says, "You're such a dork Tim." And guess what the song was. I love this song. It's one of my favorites in the entire OC catalog. (incidently, I've also been known to dance in the shower to Kono Sekai De) -
OCR00991 - Final Fantasy IV "Over and Under"
Atomic Dog replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Talked to my friend. She said she'd like to hear a "strumento soltanto" version (I guess you'd know what that means???) so she can see what her voice sounds like against it. Also, do you have any IM programs? She said she'd want to talk to you if she liked it. Thanks. -

I haven't been posting in awhile, but I HAVE been lurking/downloading, and I have to say... this is AWESOME. You should be damn proud of yourself silent. Also, if you're interested, I know a REALLY talented young lady who has an amazing voice. I'm going to show her the piece and see if she might be interested in putting a female voice on it (or even a duet, I think, might sound really nice!) Is this something you'd be interested in? If so, let me know. I'll totally try and arrange it if you're game. -
OCR00978 - Lufia II "Turbid Guidance"

DJP put it right... I need to change my pants, but not because I wet them. My god.... this just waltzed its way right into my Top 10 OCRs. You should be damn proud of yourself. -
OCR00405 - Super Mario 64 "Sunken Suite"
Atomic Dog replied to Ginnsu's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I really really really love this song. I had such a shitty day today, came home, turned it on, and immediately felt better. Not too many OCR's have THAT particular effect. Gotta give recognition where recognition is due.
