An update on The Damned's nickname censoring irk: I too also have a Generation 3 Flygon that also got hit hard by the censors (original name "Kakeru"; my main six there were named after Ape Escape characters). And nope, neither the Gen 5 / 6 Name Raters are able to change it to something else other than the generic Pokémon species name. Sucks, I know, but I'm greatful that none of my imported starters have suffered as a result of this *_*

I got that message too when transferring my main six from White 1 over. It doesn't tell you which Pokemon are affected by this, but I had a hunch it was my Krookodile, "Fukawa" (named the main 6 after Danganronpa characters!); so I quickly changed it to "Foukawa" by means of the Gen 5 Name Rater before trying again, and the warning disappeared. So if you get that message when getting to that stage, and you're attached to at least one of your Pokémon (like with The Damned's Flygon example), try and change it if you caught it in Generation 5 first. You'd be out of luck if it was in Generation 3 or 4 unless you've still somehow got them stored on their original cartridge you caught it from and you're able to name check using Gen 6's name rater. Still yeah, this is bizarre o_o*

Say, someone needs to try and do a beatbox using those VERY WORDS in place of what they're an onomatopoeia for in the first place. Come on, make it happen!

I'm currently looking at how the votes are standing after a couple of days. I'm not quite too sure what happened, but: * urdailywater still needs to contribute to the remaining 4 match-ups for his previous 2 to count. * StarDragonJP only voted in the Oil Ocean / Volcano Valley matchup so far and should contribute to others to make his vote count. * And DJ Max-E is yet to vote in his OWN matchup. So if you're any of those three, I suggest you get a move on before it's too late. Though, given there's 5 days it's probably not too late just yet o_O

Frozen Factory vs Ice Cap? No doubt that this matchup... ...would give me the chills. YEEEEEEEEEEEEEAH

I'm glad all the matchups got accounted for, but still feel sorry for the dropouts here. I honestly thought Brandon would pull through especially, but still Eh, I'm stoked to hear all the entries myself. Who isn't?

I said in the facebook group that i am gonna need another week to work on mine. My progress this week was on another track for another project, which needed more priority. I am itching to get back on this one, trust me.

It is fine to send over mixes involving more than one track. Trust me, Dj Mystix does that a lot From the previous compo, Brandon, SupX and myself sent entries in and got them past the judges. All you need to do is to make sure your track complies to OCR's standards and you are good to go

I'm probably one of few people who has noticed this, but the OCR forum calendar only goes up to December 2013. So that means at this point it'll no longer direct itself to the current month. I don't think fixing this is a high priority per se, but I should at least let you guys be aware of this

They must be working hard - even the Community sub-area had been dead for the past 6 hours, which is unusual even for dead hours. But yes, two down - this is good news! I'm in high anticipation to hear the lot tomorrow, and you know it!

That's an interesting way to put things; usually when I write, I try to build up a basic soundscape first, then write along that. No use trying to write around a specific aesthetic if you can't really create it well. Like, with "Magma on the Dancefloor" in the 2012 compo, my first couple of days were spent just trying to get the basic groove together - finding the right bass tone, percussion sounds, accompanying riffs and the like. The only means I'd change instruments in the middle of writing it is often to change my drum selection, and that's only because a handful of people have become really fed up with me using the AD Startup Kit. xD But enough about myself, the Sonic bracket roster looks interesting enough. I'm particularly hyped to see what will come out of the vox showdown between Jason and Wildfire x)

Is this one of your first attempts at recording solo piano? It's not too bad at all I can see potential, but let me see if I can give you a few pointers for future tracks or refining this one. * While I do hear Ice Cap in the track itself, a good 60% of the track or so sounds more like original additions. If this is to eventually be refined as an OCR submission, the arrangement needs to have considerably more source material. Having at least 50% of the track contain source is a good threshold to go for arrangement-wise. * I don't know if it's more in relation to the FL piano soundfont, but the sound itself mostly feels very robotic, as if all notes are hit at the exact same velocity each time. You got the right idea at around 2:15 onwards, but even then it sounds a little more robotic than it should, and by the time the buildups start happening, the effect can't be heard. If there's a way for you to cut the attack slightly on the FL piano, that could be a start to help you get a slightly softer tone. That, and possibly go lighter on the first minute before going all-in with the mid section. * A performance suggestion would be to also listen to other classical piano pieces similar to the sound you are going for, and pay attention to the left hand for any riffs to add to what you already know. Through this arrangement, I hear the nice little riff in the first 40 minutes or so that gets repeated a little much, octaves, and a simple triad movement (I-III-V-III-V-III-V-III). Learning more ways to handle the left hand outside from what you know would benefit future performances and give them a lot more depth as well. I hope this is a start to getting you up there. You're grasping the concept - just keep learning and down the line you'd be going places

Eino, I understand your concerns as to how tracks would get received. But generally, the RS side is pretty chill and open; I may say I have standards on the air, but they can be more lenient than you think. As I often say on the air, "if they covered a SEGA tune and did a 'lot of class' (my way of saying they had fun with it), then it's in." Just hang loose, have fun and be yourself
