Pokémon X/Y and OmegaRuby/AlphaSapphire (Gen6) (3DS)
Rexy replied to Mirby's topic in General Discussion
Didn't realise Bank is on subscription, but $5 a year isn't too bad. Knowing me I'd be in to experience the adventures more than get super-Minecraft-style addicted, but it will be nice to have that full Pokedex completion. That said, my Gen 3-5 teams and legendaries (minus Landorus, which will still require some grinding in Dream Radar) are raring to go. Heading into Kalos this Wednesday will be an interesting experience x) -
Hot dang, that lion looks adorable In fact I'm glad the season of giving is gong along so well with you all; nice going! Very generous and well-thought stuff all around

So on top of my musical goals, let's set some personal ones in place: * Get back into work or education. I said this last year, but aside from some contracts I didn't go anywhere; but I definitely want to get life back together. Talking of which... * Find help regarding my mood swings. I thought I had toned them down this year but I still get told that I get easily bitter. Thankfully I'm in a better frame of mind than I was in last week, so I can hold on throughout the festive period; but I still need to speak to a professional regarding this. * This may be the silliest goal of the lot and one that could go either way, but complete a cosplay for PlayExpo 2014. I did one last year and it really worked as a fun distraction; perhaps I can work on another one? o_O

You forgot to credit Xenon Odyssey on my track, DiGi But yeah, this has been in limbo for so long now; with Stevo helping out, this will surely be going places sooner than we think. Go for it x)

Lost World has been out for a couple of months, but knowing OCR's track record it may quickly get picked up at some point. In the meantime, there's one arrangement provided through GameChops that's worth listening to

An OverClocked Christmas 2013 ~ Now Recruiting
Rexy replied to Dyne's topic in Recruit & Collaborate!
I'm finishing up something too, but it's gonna be goddamn HAPPY in comparison to Brandon's. It's also not what I originally set out to do, but I can't miss the chance this time xD -
wip Sonic 1 Star Light Zone Remix (WiP)
Rexy replied to jordanm434's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Okay, let's be blunt with this. Sorry, but right off the bat I am going to say there is nothing good about this mix. Now I know this is your first track, and you want to get off to a good start, but this is the kind of stuff that would get direct rejected. Let me list a few points to help you get on the right track: * When doing arrangements, please don't MIDI rip and loop it. It's fine to use MIDIs for reference, but it's not fine to use it as the entire basis of the song. It's a good idea to just think of your own creative ideas and add them to what you've got, or even just recreate it yourself from scratch and add any personal touches that way. * When assigning instruments, at least know what they should be doing and what you intend to do with them. You've got a drum track trying to do a melody part, which is completely off, as well as some horrible grating bell that's too far out of its range for comfort on headphones. If you're using VSTs and soundbanks it's generally not a problem as they've got an assigned range to go with it, but MIDI devices are freeform and can sound terrible when not used well. * Finally, if you want thinks to sound like what you intended, at least listen to some reference music to get an idea of what you want it to sound like. You wanted it to be relaxing? Listen to other pieces of downtempo music, pay attention to what's being used in it, and see if you can write a track in that particular style. Or if you want an aggressive rock track, listen to lots of rock music and see what inspires you. Heck, you can even listen to folk music and write something inspired by what you hear. I hope you get what I mean by this. My best advice would be to ditch this track, start over with a clean slate, and see if you can do something that's closer towards the OCR guidelines. It takes a while to get there, but I've seen people grow over time. Don't give up -
OCR02795 - Sonic the Hedgehog 2 "Ethereal Skies"
Rexy replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
A week ago: "Hm, Sky Chase sounds lovely to do on solo piano. Perhaps I could experiment with this?" Last night: "Holy crap, Pumpkin King beat me to the punch! And he did good :O" Seriously, I really like your piano performances in the Dwelling of Duels, and I'm so glad you managed to keep those skills sharp for OCR submission and all. Really proud of how far you've come! Yeah, I too appear to be in the drowning verb camp with this, but it can also help a bit to high-pass the reverb as well to prevent the low-to-low-mids from getting all cluttered. But the performance was nice and raw; very reminiscent of pu_freak's early work, and from what I saw of you developing a nice character in the DoD it could flesh out equally as well with other tracks outside of it. Welcome to the clan! -
14 years of OCR! I guess since she's not old enough to drink yet, we might as well offer ice cream sandwiches on the house.

It's not even New Year's Eve, and there's 3 music goals I can already think of: * Get more musically active - should be a no-brainer now that I no longer have to worry about any hospital crap for some time. I'll try 'something new every 3 months' and see how it goes from here. * Do whatever I can on that aforementioned PlayStation EP. Again, same reasons as above. * Arrange a remix and perform it at either the London Gaming Con / Alcon 2014 that DOESN'T cover Sonic or Mega Man. Yes, they're both great series, but I want to do more than that in front of a live audience this year... Anything more personal, I'll need to think of closer to the time. See how it goes. x)

Sure, when "Friday" came out, it was a pop music abomination and showed everything that was wrong about the pop scene at the time - corny lyrics, uninspired backing and grating voice work. On the contrary for this one, I'd rather listen to "Saturday" on repeat than most top 40 pop hits for the past year. I think the direction with this is a huge improvement.

Yeah, about the first play of Mega Ran / Mister Wilson's new album on RadioSEGA brought up in this week's episode, and saying that I wasn't the one doing it... ...well, I ended up doing it anyway. xD That aside, was a great appearance this week! Crazy get-together and one to really see / deliver some insights in regards to the Sonic CD album; and I am agreeing with the vast majority, Jive should be on more often

No significant improvements, but no diastrous gains either. Then again I put much of it on my health problems last year. Couldn't even touch it. I got to get it done in either 2014 or 2015, matching with the PS1's 20th anniversary in any of the territories it was released in. o_o* January - lots of tracks made for the Sonic Stadium Music Adventure 2012. Following 8 months - nothing too refreshing, but did have a lot of OC Remix mixposts at that time plus stuff put forth on the FF6 album. October - tracks for For Everlasting Peace and Vampire Variations 2. November - Temporal Duality. Nuff said. So, not technically as productive, but at least the goal was kind of met in terms of exposure Success on both! SEGA Mixer Drive completed a full season last night and I am now on Christmas break. I've also helped a bit with the visuals for OCRU's MAGFest set for this year as well. No pernament work, but have done some contracts in the meantime. Not a brilliant year on an accomplishment standpoint, but considering I went under the knife in May, I can give this the benefit of the doubt, I guess.

Like I said, if anyone's looking for an extra head, let me know. I'm always available

I've been to PlayExpo in Manchester twice in my OCR shirt, and no one got into an OCR conversation with me... Going towards the debate though, I am down with the idea of a card. People may see what we are from the shirt, but won't remember much about it when they get home. At the end of the day, OCR may not be making money as a business but it is still an organisation spreading the remixing love around, so I'm in the pros in regards to cards.

There was one in progress for BadAss Volume 2, but it got pulled out. However, it may make Volume 3 so keep your eyes peeled. Will be nice to see it make its way here. For now, here's a few to quench your thirst: http://remix.thasauce.net/song/RTS0120/ http://www.dwellingofduels.net/dodarchive/11-03-Portables_Month/03-M-H-AdvanceWarsDS-Oozium-DoD.mp3 http://www.dwellingofduels.net/dodarchive/07-03-Free_Month/14-Six-Stringed%20Flamberge-Advance%20Wars%20DS-Chillin%20in%20a%20Mega%20Tank-DoD.mp3

I got Fire Emblem: Awakening with my 3DS. Never played any of the games in the series before, and I got addicted QUICK. Should also fit your criteria. I've also played Rhythm Thief and the Emperor's Treasure as well - fun rhythm game with an engaging story, if not a little on the short side. I hope to get Pokemon X for Christmas too, and have played a demo of Link Between Worlds at this year's PlayExpo so should work well if you have a kick for Zelda

My first non-toy keyboard was a . What I find with their workstations was that they were affordable, opened up a great imagination for those that just sit down and mess with them, and were really durable and lightweight.I highly recommend getting your child a Yamaha PSR model if you want to get them their very first keyboard. And yes, pedals ARE a must too. Just like with G-Mixer, there was no pedal port with mine and I didn't start learning how to use them until years after I got it. If they train in it now, they'll be ready for the future.

Haha wut... I got a giant Amazon package thinking that would be my OCR FF6 Kickstarter stuff... but it actually turned out to be THIS: A talking Spyro plush toy and a classic-era Sonic 2014 calendar! And I was wrong - my Secret Santa IS Brandon Strader!! Added proof that he was the guy because the note that came with the package rambled on about how different Spyro looked in comparison to 15 years ago... Yep. That's our Brandon alright. That plus the Steam games mentioned earlier made up the set - thank you man!

How did you get into the game music industry?
Rexy replied to Liontamer's topic in General Discussion
While I haven't been paid for music outside of OCR, it was OCR itself that linked me to some contract work in a completely different media field - being video editing. One tip I can give is to practice your skills on a consistent basis. I rendered my first attempts at video montages when I was a University student, where some of my avant garde Music Technology assignments required them to be put to visuals. Since graduation, my video editing skills had worked out in my favor for music videos accompanying my remixes, the various OCR project perspectives I've done and any other random gaming plights. When you get the hardware to work with your skills, learn what it's capable of and see how appropriate you can work with it. I had gone from using stock FX and simple Windows Media Maker transition manipulation in my early post-grad days to studying what my father's old copy of Magix Movie Maker (and all versions since) had and thinking of ways to make the various transitions and positions work on the fly. Since they were also timed to music, timing is also the biggest key when it comes to using your various assets. However, you could be the most skilled in your field but won't go anywhere. That's why having links from other people would also help. If someone notices what you do and likes it, and wants to recommend you to someone else, then go for that opportunity and see what it leads to. In my case, that very unnamed OCR staff member was the link between myself and my first paid video editing contract. It takes a lot to build up after that, but if you enjoy what you do and want to keep pushing yourself, then you know you've got the right frame of mind to do stuff on a commercial basis. -
And so has mine. Last air mail post beaten once more.

OCRA-0045 - Sonic CD: Temporal Duality
Rexy replied to SuperiorX's topic in Album Reviews & Comments
Oh god DusK, you've pulled it off xD While we're still on that SMD tangent, the past few episodes of the show had been looking for listener responses to an ongoing series of polls to help build up the Season Finale next week, as stated in the podcast. November's - the last one - just got unleashed at the end of the show. Those that enjoyed the album can state their personal favorites in there, as well as state how they felt over 10 other new releases that happened in the past few weeks. I suggest you give them ALL a chance and be as unbiased as possible. Thank you -
Yeah, mine are easy to spot because you can't make international packages anonymous apparently. That, and my hand-to-wrapping-paper co-ordination generally sucks. Anyway, I thought my person for this year may be tough but I am actually making good progress atm. With the way this keeps up, it may even be shipped off sometime next week. And I know for sure Brandon Strader ISN'T my Secret Santa, because not long after the matchups were announced, he gifted me Retro City Rampage and Bit.Trip Runner on Steam. I have received a LOT of games from him over the course of the year; thank you man x)

OCRA-0045 - Sonic CD: Temporal Duality
Rexy replied to SuperiorX's topic in Album Reviews & Comments
Alright, if you missed the show yesterday (and no doubt some of you did ), it's all here! As well as playing through the album, let me sum up some of the most ridiculous things that happened there: * I fail to pronounce "Schizophrenic" right, to hilarious results. * When "Chips Out of Water" was being played, IRC members keep picking out instruments that weren't even there. * SAY YEEEEAH UH HUUUUH (you know what that refers to) * The Meme Bean Machine strikes again during "Time Traveller's Delight". * I butcher the raw Japanese text for the easter egg when going over the inspiration for "Yours Truly, Satan". * Nyan Cat made an appearance near the end to fit with the 'sugar and rainbows' feel of "The Future is Bright". * And every time I tried to imitate a sound effect (e.g. the high pass filter boost in the Modern Sonic titles) or tried to sing a song relevant to the situation (e.g. a hint of Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" when going over "Forever in Your Mind"), the guys wanted to add the clip to a potential "Rexy Vocal SFX Mix" that they want to do. Oh god lol... Anyway, there you be! Grab at your own leisure
