I just completed the circuit of the bridge. extending from Fireslash's castle of doom, out to pirate cove, then south and west again to connect with the bridge outside Bin Jovi's biodome.
-
Has everyone seen this before: I can't help but laugh.
-
What do you guys think about making this pirate cove?
-
does this happen to anyone else? It's just next to the spawn point, sometimes the floor goes all see-through. Gives a great view of the caverns mapped out below:
-
The server's broken, been that way for a couple of hours. Can connect, but can't do anything, all blocks regenerate.
-
I'm Orichalcon on the server, goes without saying. I want to get a floating continent project started up at some point. within awe-inspiring view of the new glass bridge.
-
Just set up a super awesome infinite looping rollercoaster that goes from right underground to the above surface. So much fun. But a bit of vertigo!

I love AVGN. Been watching it since it started. I thought the song was sung a lot better when it was just the Angry Nintendo Nerd. Go back and listen to an early video and hear how well Kyle sings "nerd" at the end, compare it to the AVGN theme. Me thinks it was rushed. They're good fun videos, even the Board James and movie reviews are great too. I'm happy he only releases new AVGN once a month, as the production quality has gone way up as a result, and the reviews tend to be much longer and more thorough.

Just ignore the starters. I'll be birthing 3 starters for myself from the previous 4 generations on pokemon diamond, then transferring them across. The other 3 places will be black/white natives. It's way more fun to play pokemon with a completely unique starter at level 5. I did Soul Silver with Spiritomb as my starter.

OCR02236 - *YES* Pokémon Red Version 'Out of the Palace'
The Orichalcon replied to Palpable's topic in Judges Decisions
I liked the shredding. The guitar's actually pretty good in this. I agree that the balance is out. This is a mix with good arrangement suffering from poor production. Boost the drums a bit more, separate the guitar some more so it sounds more surrounding. Just tweak things until it all comes together more fluidly. As said, the arrangement is fine to me. It comes close to being too conservative, but the guitar is creative enough for me. I'll give it a YES on the proviso that those things are touched up. -
OCR02067 - Chrono Trigger "Pipe Dream Mystics"

Awesome. Took me a little while to pick what the source was. Once I clicked onto it though it was great. Added to my Dance playlist for those pre-drinks before nightclub nights. -
wip Pokémon G/S/C/HG/SS Kanto Gym Battle ReMix
The Orichalcon replied to AlmightyArceus's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
My favourite theme from the original games. But you haven't changed much. It sounds very similar to the original, with a couple of extensions unrelated to the source thrown in Plus that fake-guitar lead is dominating the mix. the drums and everything else are hidden in the background. I do like the action level of the drums, but it's a repeating loops mostly, change it up and play with it some more. The piano break was nice. It came a little late for my liking. Keep up the work. This was the first track I ever remixed, and by comparison this is much better than what I ended up with. -
YES. .... Oh, you wanted a proper vote? k. I like Sigur Rós, and this reminds me of Sigur Rós (That's VICTORY ROSE for all you english speakers.) Although the style of the mix isn't what I'd call very similar to their style, the gentleness and harmony certainly mimics the mood of their music. I actually think this remix sounds more like something from Rayman. The acoustic guitar is very pretty, and well produced. The reverb is nice, the light compression on it isolates and broadens the crispness of each of the strings. The piano is light and does its job in the background, every now and then striking a note of dissonance to bring us to appreciate the clarity of the guitar even more. The swells are gentle and keep the key-changes noticable and pleasing to the ears. My gripe, and yes it is a gripe, is the percussion. It's so weak and bland. I don't mind that it's subdued. This mix doesn't cry for loud drums or overbearing percussion. But the way it's mastered makes it sound very far away, like it's being played outside a window compared to the rest of the music. The reverb on the snare needs to be dulled a bit so that it doesn't have that lingering hiss. Other than that. This nice minimalist mix works well. I know these sorts of mixes usually don't fly well with the judges, so I expect them to be more harsh. You know what my vote is. Edit: Two other small things. I hate the name of the mix. and I really think Erik needs to drop the childish "Iggy Koopa" name and pick something either a little broader, or just go with his actual name. He's said to me he wants at least one mix to be posted to the site under "Iggy Koopa", which is fair enough given how long he's been trying. Beyond this one mix (if it passes) though, I'd really like to see Erik come out of his shell (geddit?) and emerge as a more respectable and professional mixer in the scene. He has the talent for it, and his work deserves it.

I had a big conversation about this piece with Jimmy and Larry on IRC. There seems to be a bit of confusion over v1 and v2. To clarify, I listened to v2. The majority of the mix seems to be based on a particular phrase from the original file, which is from 1:55 in the Youtube link. I'm ok with one particular part of a source tune being used and embellished upon to constitute an entire mix, so long as it's done well. There's plenty of work done on that particular phrase in this remix. There are new elements and older elements being brought in and dropped out through the mix. Constantly played around with. The beatslicing is great. If it's a single loop through the entire mix chopped up, I never got bored with it. You've done a great job slicing and making the beat and percussion interesting. The quality of the mix is superb. You've kept the dramatic feel of the source and made it sound a bit more futuristic electronic, which is what Omnisphere seems to be good at doing. That being said, I feel you're pushing that particular phrase too far in extending the mix to 6 minutes. I would've liked to have seen a switchup at some point. There is a downperiod at 3:00 in, but it's just a calmer section of what is essentially the same phrase. A change in key, a different phrase. Something else to keep the interest of the listener up before switching back to that epic phrasing you've used in the latter half of the mix. I'm still happy with it to pass. It's up to the other judges whether or not it's gone too far with repetition. YES

OCR02083 - *YES* Scribblenauts 'NO (resub)'
The Orichalcon replied to Palpable's topic in Judges Decisions
I like the song, but I hate the name. I'd really like the submitted to change it. The remix is quirky, jumpy and energetic. The source material is apparent. I see no problem with the production at all, and the arrangement is fun to listen to. The use of 8-bit samples is clever and interesting. As DA said, it sounds like it could be in the game. I'll YES it. -
Justin Beiber is a 16-year-old canadian "singer" with no testosterone. He still somehow manages to make pre-pubescent teenage girls turn into violent criminals hoping for a chance to see him. It's really quite scary. Also he does this dreamy hairflick thing. You should totally check it out.
-
It's not really related to Axis of Awesome. But I thought I'd point out that the guy in the middle (Jordan) does some good sketches as a character named Paulie. He's a pretty good comedian.

I don't want to see it. Let the damn franchise die already. There are so many other FF games that deserve the attention that 7 gets. Where's the love for 5? what about 8? 6 gets lots of praise, but there's no spin-off or remake there? The PSOne games don't count.

Walking home after a night of drinking with my boyfriend and having the misfortune of walking past a house full of drunken teenagers who recently (within the last 10 minutes) had their car windows smashed. Of course, the teenagers saw us and immediately assumed we were the ones who did it, they started swarming around us throwing accusations galore at us, then one particularly large teenager runs out of the house with a big fucking butcher knife and starts charging at my boyfriend. One of the teens just says "You better fucking run, asshole." So my boyfriend takes off, with this knife-wielding prick chasing him down the street. I went the other direction, whipped out my phone and called the police. No idea what happened to my boy. I hid behind a fence in a neighbours yard until I heard the police sirens, terrified out of my mind that my boyfriend is bleeding to death on a street somewhere. Finally I get home and talk to the police, only to find out that my boy had run to his car, got in, locked the doors and driven off. Guess what? He's the one that got in trouble for drink driving. Nevermind that he probably would've been butchered if he hadn't driven off. Stupid cops. I tell you, there's nothing more terrifying than having no idea where your loved one is after seeing him chased out of your sight with a weapon. All these horrible scenarios were running through my mind. I'm just glad he wasn't hurt.

To me this mix fails across the board. Not to say it's not without it's merit. There are some interesting ideas. But the woodwind lead is too fake/uninteresting to listen to. The strings are muddy. The synth is funky but it can't carry the mix by itself. The drums are weak at best. The cymbals are annoyingly out of place for me. You need to merge them into the drumwork better. A mix that sort of roams around offering the occasional good idea. But it needs a lot more effort and work. Right now it's just too random and sloppy. So it's a NO from me.

OCR02050 - *YES* SimCity 2000 'SimFunkadelic'
The Orichalcon replied to OceansAndrew's topic in Judges Decisions
Out of interest, there was a Sim City 2000 remix on the site, it was removed during the purge of the site though. Funk-tastic remix, I personally love it, but I have to put my feelings aside. You've got the groove down fo' sho'. Some of the samples are thin and ruin parts of the mix for me. the slap bass needs to be thickened in the bass and mid regions. PLEASE ditch the brass samples and try some rhodes in there! This mix is BEGGING for some rhode-tastic love. The mix also just sort of ended. I'd love to hear it extended, maybe a fade out or a proper ending. It's fine how it is, I just didn't personally like the abrupt ending. All them Sim-Mayors out there need to get their funk-on to this track. Edit: Love the organ in the place of the brass. Still sounds a little fake. But it's a lot better and I can live with that. Great mix, and since I'm playing SC4 at the moment, it sits nicely in the background while trying to find a way to cut costs on water supply without all my damn pipes exploding. YES -
*NO* Chrono Trigger 'Magus and His Cathedral'
The Orichalcon replied to Palpable's topic in Judges Decisions
I'm kinda concerned that the Magus part is almost a note-for-note cover of the original, made orchestral. It sounds good, but it's not a remix, it's an attempted upgrade of the source. The remix starts when we have the cathedral music come in. And I'll admit it sounds pretty good, it's enjoyable to listen to and it's an interesting reorchistration of the theme. The samples are questionable. They can be used more effectively. If it was just the samples that I had issue with, I'd probably pass this as it's not that big a deal. But I can't get past how note-for-note the first couple of minutes were. I think you've played it too safe there, and I'd like to that part changed or ditched altogether. This can either be a great remix, or a great cover. The choice is yours. But it can't be both. NO
