  1. Ladies and gentlemen: The Live Performers Database Coded by Xerol. If you play a live instrument and would like to offer your skills for collaborations, join the database. It is still a work in progress, but is already effectively functional as a searchable (by instrument) database of live performers. So if you play a live instrument, add yourself to the database! (don't forget to go to "my account" and add your info after creating your account). And, of course, if you are in search of a live performer, USE THIS RESOURCE! Old live performers thread (for archival purposes): http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=48200
  2. That has got to be the coolest title for a remix I've ever heard. Also, the mix is awesome.
  3. So when do the bumper stickers come out?
  4. Ridiculously fake unfortunately. Is it really? Damnit.
  5. Yeah, it's definitely a very similar melody.
  6. The Live Performers Database Coded by Xerol Sign up there! It's a work-in progress, but hopefully it will eventually delelope into a very useful resource for those hoping to collaborate OR (crosses fingers) eventually for original artists looking to hire performers.
  7. Whoah! I need to try that sometime!
  8. I bumped your mom last night.
  9. It depends on the type of ROM. The process will be different for SNES than for Genesis or NES. SNEStool, I believe, can convert SPCs to midis, but the conversion tends to be pretty sloppy. I'm sure there are similar programs for just about every type of VGM soundfile. Zophar's domain probably has all of them, and if not Zophar, try google. May I ask why you wish to rip midis from ROMs? You're not planning on submitting that as a remix, are you? 'Cause we'd rofl at you.
  10. Holyshitomg I just got my new low whistle. It's unbelievably sexy.
  11. I'm decent, but there are much better electric guitarrists around here than I. However, my current guitar is caput, and I probably won't have my new one in hand for another month or so. Why?
  12. Bump for great justice!
  13. Kickass keyboards are not required to make mixes. Plenty of people don't even use keyboards. A PSR-74 may not be the best out there, but it's certainly useable. I'd see what you can do with that before shelling out for a new keyboard.

  15. To be honest, I liked your old version of this (the one with a synth lead) better -- I thought the soundscape felt much richer. HOWEVER, the drum solo and the slower section are very nice additions, and this is overall one rockin' arrangement.
  16. Very pretty. Guitar, though fake, is well done. I'm digging the beat, though it could use a bit more variation (especially that hiss; that gets old quickly). Definitely a good start, it just needs more variation.
  17. So now my mixes are even more likely to pass the panel, as the number of judges I've slept with* is now three. *by "with" I mean "in the same room as"
  18. haHA! Congrats to both of you
  19. About to add one of these babies to my arsenal. I'll update my earlier post and eventually record some samples when it arrives (which should be next week).
  20. Compression makes the quiet sounds louder. Actually, it makes the loud parts quieter, but generally you add gain after compressing, so the end effect is that quieter parts louder. The end result is that the entire mix sounds louder, without the peaks actually being any higher. Threshold is where the compressor actually starts to take effect. For example, if you have the threshold set at -10 dB, anything below that will be unchanged and anything above that will become quieter. The ratio effects how much quieter those peaks become. As for limit, I'm not entirely sure what that's referring to. Andy can probably explain all of this better than I can.
  21. That means you have motherboard integrated audio. Probably designed for moderately good playback, with recording capabilities thrown in just so they could say it had recording capabilities. An audio interface would be a very good thing to get. I'm not an expert on these, though, so I think I'll let somebody else give reccomendations on these.
  22. Um... guys, there's more to it than Mic --> computer. What soundcard to you have? How are you plugging an XLR mic into your computer, which, I'm guessing, doesn't have XLR input? If your soundcard is just the basic motherboard integrated audio that most PCs ship with, that will impose a substantial and inescapable limit on sound quality. Remember, your recording quality can only be as good as the weakest link in your recording chain. The best mics and audio programs in the world won't help if your soundcard sucks. Also, if you are plugging your mic directly into your soundcard, you have far less control over the input level than you would with a preamp or mixer (either one of which would be a very worthwhile investment if you plan to continue making live recording a big part of your mixing).
  23. Ok, so I just got back from a small smashfest, my first time seriously playing anybody who was any good aside from my brother (except for the two or three matches I played at Otakon). I got my ass handed to me.
